They apologise to Graeme Le Saux for calling him gay. He's not gay, he just reads the Guardian.

I remember thinking at the time that the behaviour of Fowler et al was ambivalent, since it could be seen as making fun of Le Saux's own uptight, touchy and clearly homophobic reactions. Le Saux always gets portrayed as the victim, but the energy he gave off was very much in the vein of "how dare you impugn my dignity as a normal and respectable heterosexual familiy man? I'll have you know that I'm married and have fathered a child - which proves that it's scientifically and biologically impossible for me to be a disgusting abnormal f@g. You should treat me with the respect I deserve, and reserve your scorn for a misbegotten pervert who actually deserves to be victimized!"
In reality, society hasn't changed much at all since the 90s. Then, as now, most people were spineless fence-sitters who blew with the wind!
The main difference now is that the lion's share of the corporate media is (superficially) opposed to homophobia, so that people who would formerly have sat on the fence (in fear of the violently homophobic folk-devil-hunting aspects of society, which still exist but in less overtly public places) are now unwilling to be seen in the public eye as tolerating homophobia, even though they still seem intensely awkward discussing it (like Gary Lineker in this clip), and so that those who are not in the public eye (but who have greater proximity to the violently homophobic folk-devil-hunting aspects of society) are liable to whinge resentfully about "SJWs force-feeding their lifestyle down our mother-fucking throats" and curtailing their inalienable free-dumb of speech (which is code-word for saying that "I used to feel brave saying aggressively homophobic things in public, knowing perfectly well that the vast majority of people would be unwilling to challenge me, but now I no longer feel safe saying the same things and am perpetually anxious about being challenged, and it's causing me to become conscious of what a spineless fence-sitter I actually am! Please send help!")

He doesn't come across homophobic what so ever. I agree he should of answered the question better. But I think his trying to skip the question over embarrassment. The thing we all got to remember the world has changed a lot at a speedy rate in 20-30 years. I remember gay was used as an insult in the 90s. But 90% of people saying it didn't hate homosexuals. They just didn't know the damage it was doing as they was looking for a quick cheap laugh.

I think things have moved on especially in the premiership as it’s become more of a pressure cooker and in turn professional. Not in every aspect but he is right in that you are there for a job and it’s totally football. I don’t think it was always that with the culture and in football in general it’s still a issue. Not just that but as Robbie says even as a wind up. It’s it just this it’s racism and it’s not even clear cut or black and white (excuse the pun) .
From Colombian players doing Chinese eye gestures to Russian fans throwing bananas. It’s cross culture. You just have to read some of the fan pages to see African fans making. Remarks about the English and English fans who were racist to three young lads over penalties. These individuals are uneducated fools and they are everywhere sadly. Look at these two dummies as a good example. Some unity and cool head will make the changes needed slowly over time. In respect of players to players it’s definitely uncommon now.

We live in different, more knowledable times(on certain matters&subjects, but not all)But back then,in Football&life in general young Guys always got stick from older Guys.If they thought there was anything they could use to get at you,the Gloves came off and nothing was out of bounds
..Now Graham Le Saux was a really good player, but had a spiteful&Petulant side to his character on the Field(He would often fly in2 challenges with his Studs showing,or kick out at players, which would never endear u to anyone, back then)But from my perspective,he has always wanted to portray himself as this Victim or someone who was picked on(as if that was something new in any working Enviroment back then&i'm sure is still the status quo)His comments about "I read the Guardian&other players resented me for that"(which I think was a little Melodramatic& right load of Bollocks)And he hasn't done to badly since!
I'm sure if He had a $ for every interview he has done&raised this point, his Bank Balance would have increased further!
.And once again being honest Garry Lineker has become somewhat of "PC"Ambassador and so has Le Saux, they will always portray themselves as the "Good boys, and innocent Parties."Or maybe always looking to be" The Teachers Pet"While constantly occupying the Moral high ground!
Now neither of the 2 Robbies were Saints or intellectual Giants, but I'm sure neither were they the worst examples of Sinner's either..
So thankfully we've made progress, but Football in general has always been based on what u could do on the field.
If u played well, done ur Job or at least played with committment then u had the respect of ur Fans, but not the opposition,so if they could find a"Chink in ur Armour"Your Sexuality or some aspect of ur Personal life, then as far as they were concerned"Everthings fair Game"!Not nice&and it can be unpleasant but let's keep the conversation real!
.Unlike Mr Lineker and Mr Le Saux!!.

If your getting changed in the same rooms as men dressed or naked they should know if it’s kept secret I can see how that would make players angry there’s nothing wrong with being gay I’m just saying in this profession the players should know

MrRobynLover They only did it as a laugh. If it had been someone they knew was gay they probably would have used different taunts. There is a difference between petty jibes and actual bigotry and persecution. Only people too sensitive to see that say otherwise.

Would that be the same Justin Fashanu who was banned from first team training by Brian Clough for being gay, and whose promising career was clearly ruined by the treatment he got for being gay? The same Justin Fashanu who was offered money by his own family not to come out, and then killed himself because he thought he was bringing shame on his family? If you honestly think the way he was treated means these situations "are done" and that people should "get over it" then you're a fucking idiot.
