Do you fast on the carnivore diet? If so let me know how you are getting on with it. I personally do fast, but not forced. I follow intuitive eating, so only eat when hungry.

I do fast on carnivore. Mostly to try to get some kind of reprieve from the horrific diarrhea. Secondarily because body fat just melts off of me while I'm fasting in ketosis.

@@Themeatmedic I have tried all of the common suggestions.. More fat, less fat, magnesium, calcium, lipase, ox bile, sodium, more water, less water, no water within 2 hours of a meal, etc..
My diet is mostly ribeye steaks and water. Grass fed when I can get it.
I'm on my 3rd attempt at carnivore because it is literally the only diet that works for me, but the persistent diarrhea just makes me quit once I can't take it anymore.
Other than the constant runs and being afraid to be more than 20 seconds from a toilet, I feel amazing on carnivore and the excess body fat just melts off me. But I can't live my life or do my job when I have to run to the bathroom 4-8 times a day after every meal.
As of today I am trying a new "trick" I haven't tried before. Probiotics. I am thinking that maybe my previous diet of nothing but fast food had destroyed the balance of my gut bacteria.. I don't know. I am willing to try just about anything at this point.

I'm a natural omad or 24hr fasting type person since I was a small child. So yes I do. I however don't believe it's necessary from my experience because I experiment with the process and get similar results even when eating more often. Sometimes I get better results with eating breakfast and dinner but rarely have time to create a breakfast. It's all food for great quality discussion around carnivore 😊

Yes I’m fasting to get the benefits for my mitochondria and the rest of the cells, to help in the treatment for my cancer. I’m on a keto diet (2 months) but it’s still confusing what I can eat, restrict the amount of or what I can’t have. This weekend I’m starting on carnivore diet, keto is just too confusing, zero carbs ! Good luck to us all

@craigrik2699 Keto is basically like carnivore but with the addition of vegetables. I think where people go wrong with keto is relying too much on "keto approved" foods rather than just sticking to real, 1-ingredient, whole foods.
Personally, I find carnivore so much easier to follow. But it took a few months to get my mindset right and let my addictions go (keto bread, tortillas, etc.). Also, having a CGM (Continuous Glucose Monitor) that updates me every 5 minutes on my glucose levels REALLY helped to make that transition. It had really opened up my eyes as to how these "keto approved" foods affect my blood glucose.
For most people, keto will work wonderfully, at least in the beginning. For others, they'll need to stop messing around with "net carbs" and focus on 20 TOTAL carbs per day or less. On Carnivore, all of this pretty much goes away as it's near 0 total carbs just by the nature of the foods consumed. Much easier to stick with that once all other cravings go away. 👌
I hope you're still doing OK and that you're still sticking to it? In cases of cancer, doing proper extended water fasts (with electrolytes) can do wonders. Many resources are available in this regard on how to hopefully put it in remission, given enough time. 🙏✌️

I'm 60 years old and been carnivore for a couple of years-never felt better. I fast around 36 -42 hours per week. Daily around 18 hours and monthly for around 65 hours. I weight train and enjoy cycling. Fitter now than at any other time in my life 👍😄

I went from standard Swedish diet to LCHF then Carnivore, then i started intermittent fasting. Then I started prolonged fasting. Now I do hyper carnivore 80-90% plus some dairy. Berries, honey etc, plus i also do prolonged fasting every other week but not longer than 2-3 days. On top of that I also do inline skating long runs and some weight lifting. I must say that this is the best solution for me personally yet.

Angus Barbieri was over 400lbs when he began his fast, he also was given medically supervised micronutrient supplementation and his vitals plus other indices were regularly monitored. His case is NOT a useful example of ordinary fasting for health. It does, however, provide evidence that properly done fasting does not automatically destroy one's metabolism and/or lean muscle mass.

I was in a hurry to lose the weight I’d gained from adding dairy last year. I stopped the dairy. I did a six day water fast first week of February then another one first week of March. I’m still tired from the 2nd fast. They two fasts were too close together. I think I overstressed the adrenals. Ugh Thinking of consulting with Nutrition with Judy. Constipated all my life. Also, I’m very sensitive now to egg yolks and processed meat. She’s expensive though. I’ll try a few things on my own first. 68 years old. Carnivore five years.😊

I can attest to the fact that some people do not lose any weight on Carnivore diet so I think extended fasts are essential for those people like myself. Some of us can not do one or two day fasts... I must do more than four days to get past the dreadful hunger stage. After four days I am great... yes, I have done 30 days and it was fantastic because after the 21 day point I had amazing mental clarity and Spiritual insights... There was a reason Jesus fasted for 40 days... You just do not get the benefits unless you go for at least 30 days. As Dr. Joel Fuhrman states in his Fasting book, most everyone can fast for 65 days before going into starvation mode where muscle is lost. Fat people simply eat their fat the whole time they are on a water fast and the body rests from digesting and eliminating foods so it has the energy to detox the body and clear the mind...

On my good days, if i eat to satire then i dont usually need anything else until the next day. Generally i aim for a 16hr fast and 8 hr eat window.
Thats normal days, im a shift work and i can at time just pre cook and graze as i need.
Physical activity days i may have a couple of boiled eggs or butter fried eggs and salt but other then that just water and LMNT.

I eat one meal a day in the early evening, I'm carnivore, so I suppose I'm fasting for around 23hrs each day, more or less.
Problem is, or rather the mistake I maybe making is I have a coffee with cream in the morning and sometimes in the evening when I get home from work, so maybe this is where I'm going wrong, I'd appreciate any feedback

from all the studies i've seen 5 days is the sweet spot for fasting, then statistically the benefits begin to taper off slightly. also i saw another study recently which noted that prolonged intermittent fasting was had very similar autophagy results to that of prolonged fasting, i dont recall the growth hormonal spikes tho, which is the coolest benefits of a 5 day+ prolonged fast in my eyes.

  • @adelarsen9776
    @adelarsen9776 Před rokem +14

Humans are not supposed to eat every day. We were never that good at hunting that we made a kill every day. This is how and why our Autophagy system evolved.
When I do a fast I stop being hungry at the 24 hour mark and by the 36th hour I just don't want to eat and I feel great. Carnivore is proper human behavior.

When you described the "second wind" or "runners high".. I'm not sure that it is the body switching over to burn fat. When our body burns fat, isn't nitrogen a bi product of that, which thencauses lactic acid build up in the muscles?
I may be understanding incorrectly how that process works.. But I looked into the effects of fuel sources on distance running and it seemed to elude to the fact that dipping into fat stores for fuel would in turn cause quicker build up of lactic acid than using glucose. 🤔
    Interesting topic for sure.

The byproducts of burning fat, once that "metabolic switch" happens in the body, are ketones. Once that switch happens, ketones (which can be measured with a ketone meter like KetoMojo or others) will fuel the body and the brain. Those are primarily responsible for the mental clarity and other effects that are felt.
I'd suggest looking up Dr. Jason Fung's channel (wrote The Obesity Code, The Diabetes Code, The Complete Guide to Fasting, and others). Also, Dr. Anthony Chaffee and Dr. Ken Berry.👌😉✌️

With the carnivore diet you should be eating enough that you get a decent bump in insulin, you actually should not be staying in ketosis all the time, if you want to lose fat then fast for 48-72 hours, but when you eat, eat until you are full at least once if not twice a day. If you've not been doing this and have been on a long term meat based starvation diet then I think thats why youre having lots of issues.

I’m a carnivore I eat almost everyday but I’m fat right now so I don’t require as much food. I’ve gone from 295lb to 240lb as of this morning started Jan 7th 2024 today is March 12 2024. I eat 1-2 lb of beef or lamb a day or almost everyday and eggs 4-8 a day maybe some butter maybe some raw goat cheese. I only eat once a day since I usually only get hungry once a day. I do 1or 2, 48 hours fasts a week. I weight train 4-5 days a week to failure. Then M-F at least walk 20,000 steps and weekends at least 10,000steps. I use one supplement from heart and soil which is their beef organs I’m going to try their warrior blend next month which is liver and heart.

That's awesome! 👌 Although if you ever hit a stall, I'd try to limit all that exercise in order to give your body a break.
The diet will take care of all the fat loss on its own. Sometimes too much exercise has a deleterious effect on one's metabolism. Just something to keep in mind. 😉✌️
