I like when they open the bonnet & pretend to have a clue wtf they’re looking at
wtf 🙀
"hmm yes this engine is made out of engine"
It's classic
They may as well open the boot
Thinking the same thing and this is the first comment I saw 😂
Fast Fact: Removing the air filter doesn't straighten the conrods.
What if you also let it dry out? 😂
bmw drivers run fast and get 100% effect
Mike I spat my cuppa tea reading your comment. So true! 😂

Onlookers guide to what's wrong from a mechanic of over 55 years:
1) Car drives thru water, makes it, but tons of steam out the exhaust= wet air filter, probably no engine damage.
2) Car drives thru, stalls, but then restarts and runs with no weird noises= most likely wet ignition parts.
3) Car drives thru, stalls. Engine cranks, but VERY SLOWLY= probably hydrolocked, possibly with no major damage (spark plugs should be pulled, then cranked over).
4) Car drives thru, stalls, then restarts, but when given some throttle, engine CLANKS and stops= water was in the intake system somewhere, got sucked in when you revved it= engine is toast.
5)Car drives thru, engine stalls, won't crank over at all (also head/running lights go very dim while cranking)= engine is TOAST.
6)Car drives thru, engine stalls, gets restarted but with lots of knocking= engine is TOAST.
Bent con rods cause the piston skirt to hit the counterweights of the crankshaft, thus causing the knocking. Just the starter motor produces enough torque to bend the rods, so, yeah, it's new engine time! $$$$$
Great info, thanks for sharing that.
Would you be better off reversing through the river? The wave made by the car goes in front, so wouldn’t flood the engine compartment, just a thought.
I suppose it was too difficult to divert round the ford!
Brill, just a small amendment required to item 3, for diesel engines (no sparkers) :)
@@Greebstreebling Maybe pull the glow plugs out?
Could watch this all day and sit by the roadside with my deck chair and popcorn. Better than watching a movie. It's got action, suspense and drama.
Absolutely, I wouldn’t bother having a TV if I lived here.
I couldn't agree with you more. What delight this is for the neighbourhood.
Bring your kids along to show them how life works if you have no common sense.
Some comedy too! Love the ducks floating around, and when people decide (for some strange reason) to drive up the side creek.
You sir, are a sick and twisted individual thriving only from Schadensfreude. But... may I sit with you and have some popcorn too?
Drives through deep water and is somehow confused about what the problem might be, simply fantastic.
Same lot that vote Tory😅😄😃🤣
Bit like the jabbed
Seeing that R32 get so carelessly wrecked really hurts my heart
Watching the R32 was sad. To most people it just looks like another old mk4 Golf. But R32's are increasingly rare and have (or had in this case) a very innovative and lovely engine.
Terrible engines. Had the same engine in the Audi TT and it was unreliable garbage. Continuously ate coils which were very hard to access
@@Rambogner That's peculiar. I had the 2.8 version in a mk4 Golf V6 4Motion and to this day still have an early 2.9 12v version in my 28 year old Corrado VR6 with 160k miles on the clock and they have been bullet proof. I don't know what happened to yours.
@@tnetroP Huh, how weird that 2 different engines behave differently...
@@1Dustin The core engine is the same. The Corrado VR6 was the first VW to get the VR6. It should be less reliable, not more reliable than the later versions because lessons learned were used to improve the later 24v versions.
The engine in the mk4 Golf 2.8 V6 4motion was almost identical to the supposedly unreliable R32 in the TT mk1, with the exception of a slightly smaller capacity. It was only smaller capacity to differentiate it from the R32 that VW wanted to charge a premium for. It used the same coil packs for example.
The issue with the coil packs wasn't a VR6 problem. Many VW engines of the same era suffered that exact same issue including the 1.8 and 2.0 turbo four cylinders. It was a problem with the coil packs and not specific to the VR6 engine.
There is indeed a lack of space in the engine bays when work is needed on a VR6. But that's inherent in the requirement to fit a 6 cylinder engine in an engine bay designed for a 4 cylinder engine. The real issue with the VR6 was that it was inefficient and low on power compared to the cheaper and lower emission four cylinder turbos. It also has an issue with chains and tensioner around the 100k mark. The earlier 12v engines also had a tendancy to oval the bore holes over time. But it is generally a reliable and cleverly designed engine, especially in the updated 24v version.
Sadly this R32 had a very dumb driver
6:50. opening the bonnet and drying the upper surfaces is a brilliant way to repair a hydrolock-engine immediately. That's for sure !!
😆😂👍
Saves you getting the 200 piece Halfrauds professional tool kit... 🤣
Every onlooker that gives them the “take the air filter out and crank it over, give it a bit of throttle..” advice needs a slap.
Engine salesmen.
Nooooooooo !
The person driving through the water needs a slap.
It's a lesson in life.
what's wrong with that? it seems like a reasonable suggestion but not an expert
@@Misha-dr9rh I think that's it's wise to take advice from an expert, just in case you haven't stuffed your engine.
I've never owned a diesel, but for a petrol car, I'd at least pull the plugs before cranking in case it stalled before it was mechanical failure.
why? that makes it extra funny.
It would be great to hear interviews as to why people are doing this and how much it cost to fix.
Engine teardown or new engine.....not cheap. Hope they have insurance.
AND if they would do it again for a laff...
I doubt this will be covered by insurance. After all, they are willingly destroying their cars.
@@martindoppelbauer7738 Yep I see NO WAY the insurance companies will pay for this. And I bet you those insurance people watch these videos with one hand down their pants...
I genuinely think these people have absolutely zero idea how much damage they can do to their vehicles. There seems to be some odd assumption that “it’ll be fine once it dries out”
What's even better than breaking down?
Breaking down with the mocking laughter of onlooking children surrounding you.
The motoring equivalent of the Darwin Awards! How did these people ever manage to pass their driving tests?
I also don't get it, surely there's a safer way to cross, just by taking a little detour. I also don't see many people stopping and gauging the water depth before trying to drive through. Or maybe ask the spectators.
@@graealex It's not even the depth of the water that's the issue. it's peole driving way too fast which pushes the water up through the intake killing the engine.
@@TheHobohobbit It's actually a combination of the two.
Im sure Audi Ford BMW VW etc love this spot, the only car s making it are 4x4 with high inlets or the very slow driving cars.
Turning over the engine with water in the engine is a bit of a death sentence…
I'd describe it as U-boat commander award😂
I can't for the life of me understand what goes through peoples head.
"Big puddle here, people are filming... LETS DRIVE THROUGH!"

That's offensive! Are you implying that a bucket of water is denser than these morons...?
i love how people look in the engine bay and wonder why it aint working
After the engine coughs and makes the 'clack clack' sound, that's a sign you must mash the accelerator into the floor and continue on your way.

Aw that R32 was painful to watch. Those are wonderful cars and incredibly rare on the other side of the pond. What a shame.
The blue one at the beginning with the lights trying to flicker into life threw me right back to my childhood with Brum the car coming to life in the museum 😍 😂
I love it when they lift the hood and try to access the problem as they must have been asleep when they crossed the water. molecules not big enough.😀

would nobody even tell them to go slow or ask them "where do you think your air intake is? above your bonnet?" It looks like they think if they fly through they will keep their carpets dry. In reality most of them could get through if they crawled along.
Exactly, you don't see people stopping before it, maybe gauging the depth, and then just going through it slowly. When you see that big bow wave splashing over their bonnet, you immediately know it's over. When in reality, at many times the water wasn't particularly deep.
Also: going fast into murky water with zero visibility is in itself very stupid. Like if there are stones or branches inside the water, you'd ruin the bottom of the car either way.
Yep, from what I can guess that as long as you keep the water sloshing below the level of the front grill (the bit above the number plate) you're probably fine. Charging in like an eejit losing body panels to add to the trophy pile beside the ford is only going to do one thing.
Well... Brites ain't it?

This is too addictive! I've now watched 1 through 16, and there's no stopping! HELP!
Never get bored of watching people writing off their engines whilst pitting their cars against nature - great entertainment. Must admit a lot of the sounds these cars made after the initial stall made me wince...the sounds of conrods and rings snapping is painful to hear....
Much less painful when it's not your car!!!
Dumbest thing is the village of Wellow and the A614 are also connected up at the McDonald's roundabout. 1.8 miles to go down Rufford Lane, 3.0 miles to use the main road. Literally 2 minutes at 30mph. There is no reason to cross this ford at all.
I know as soon as the water goes over the hood of the car it's done
I can't hear the engines being destroyed because I'm laughing too much.

Drivers in england really love crossing the channel , any channel including this one even withouth the tube.
I love all the number plates lined up on the kerb
I love how the totally mechanically inept lift the bonnet hoping to see a frog blocking the inlet. Remove frog = success
lol
My favorite part is when no one says anything as people do thousands of dollars in damage.
They just all watch in excitement, cheer and clap!
On many of the clips you'll see the "road closed" sign shown, it's just a fold out from the regular "ford" sign. But these drivers didn't notice that and went through at their own risk anyway.
I love the sound of an engine lunching itself after the witless driver has forced half a river down its inlet tract. The icing on the cake is the loud 'CLANK' the instant before all self-propelled forward motion abruptly ceases.
Love the guy in the yellow Vauxhall, being like: "Idk what's wrong?! 🤷♂" 😂
What is wrong with these people, why would they ever think it was a good idea to go through a puddle this deep.
Its not that deep, its only because they hit the water too fast and it create a massive bow wave that gets into the air filter.
Thinking is a skill that most of these idiots have never mastered, maybe they have not even tried.
“It’s just a small lake I can make it though”
The more expensive the vehicle, the more invincible they believe they are.

so I thought about this and in my opinion the best way of wading the deep sump would be the following: 1) approach the wade and stop right before it; 2) turn of the engine, crank down the front driver's window, so that you can push the car forward by the A-pillar; 3) pop up the hood and plug up the intake nice and tight with plastic bag 4) take off shoes and pants, prepare to push the car through the water; 5) push it through the wade; 6) unplug the intake and go on with you life

In the overall stats, full size, German cars have been allocated a handicap, as their drivers often do not possess any common sense when behind their wheel. 🤣
i can't believe that so many cars failed the water test lol .
You don't get it. It's not a water test for the car, it's a driver's test. They're forcing water to enter the engine intake, thereby ruining the engine by hydrolocking. Very expensive decision.
It was the drivers who failed

I love the way the yellow van came to a grinding halt, that's hydrolock for you. I wonder how much money that ford costs per hour?
Its gonna fire up as soon as you take the air filter out🤣🤣🤣
Bent valves!!!
When a hot engine ingests cold water the main problem
(aside from hydro-lock)
is that the valves warp with the shock of cold water...thats why you see steam outta the exaust. It needs a top end engine rebuild.
6:45 "Just ' wet terminal"
😂😂
Most people don't know how an engine works, if you run it slowly in water there's a good chance the engine won't turn off but if you go fast it's sure the engine will swallow water and the repair cost will be huge.
Eh? The engine hydrolocks if you get water in the air intake. Engine speed is irrelevant.
@@kristoffscuba5466 engine speed is relevant dude. When you rev the engine, it sucks air in a vacuum state (negative pressure than 1 atm is the Earth pressure) so , speed of car + waves of water getting faster in the air intake + high revs of engine = more vacuum from intake, lots of water travelling through the intake and into the intake valves. If you don't rev the car and let it drive at idle engine speed with 1mile/hour whatever that speed is through the water you have 70-80% chance not to kill the engine, if water level is below the headlights.
@@jokerash nah. If the engine is under load and moving the car, combustion is happening. You get into water that’s deeper than the air box then your engine is sucking water in. More revs may mean more vacuum and more water, but even at low revs you are hydrolocking that engine.

@@wayniexagt LOL ! The air intake is just behind the front grille...
@@altair7001 and by gently entering the water you push the water slowly forward meaning the water doesnt go near the grille or over the bonnet .... sounds like you are a newbie to this kinda stuff
And that's how the steam engine was invented
"It's just wet terminals" he says, drying off the battery with a towel. Tries to start it, clatter clatter...it's terminally wet. I've only ever driven through a couple of very shallow fords (maybe 6 inch deep) so never really thought about the consequences other than getting the brakes wet. I reckon a lot of people just think that the electrics might get swamped, but it's obvious that the motors are just "inhaling" water into the combustion chamber thru' the airbox/airfilter, and of course you can't compress water when the combustion chambers get full and the valves close. I'm not really mechanically minded (OK I can strip and clean a carb on a racing kart but that's about it), but I wonder if modern fuel injected engines are more prone to this sort of thing because of the airfilters and induction system compared with old carburetted motors. I suppose a carb would it just suck in water the same but would it sort of choke up before it filled the motor with water? In any case, this is a salutory lesson...don't charge thru' a ford and don't try and restart the motor once it stops.
