We bought three less than ÂŁ1000 cars to take to a track day.
If youâre wondering why we bought SUCH CHEAP cars to take TO A TRACK - welll Scott said âbecause having fun is about driving car towards its limit, not about how fast it is.â
So weâre going to see if thatâs true - by buying EACH OTHER sub ÂŁ1000 cars. . .
We drove 300 miles in our cars, took them on a track day as well as pushing them to the limit! Scott bought Will a Vauxhall Astra, Callum bought Scott a Ford Ka and Will bought Callum an MG F.

Callum learned what snap oversteer was real quick
yep
But why was it so sensitive, apart from the rain, and how should he have prevented it ? A bit of track driving theory and instructions
for the boys would really have improved this video.
I mean it's a mid engined car, they grip really well until they really don't.
@@LupinYonderboy he was upsetting the balance of a car. I drive an mr2 so Iâve done a lot of research. His main mistake from what I can tell was slowing down in the corner
@@LupinYonderboy you floor it
On braking the balance is on the front wheels, so you oversteer, on acceleration it shifts to the rear, along with grip
Mind you Scott must be the first person who have Heel toe shifted in that car's entire life span
You have a bot response don't click.
But yeah, Ka's aren't normally driven like that
Kaâs are amazing to drive and yes are quite often driven like that.
Thereâs multiple KA racing series around the world!
Doesn't seem to make them go much faster though, does it?
ââ@@lostalone9320 yeah but it looks coolđ
Suggestion: Make the cars quicker! Give eachother a budget of âŹ500 to upgrade them. Also drop weight by removing seats etc!
I love this series already
YES
We need this
THIS
I want to see a 300hp ford KA
this
Those racing stickers added an extra 10 horsepower all by themselves
That's a 100% increase in power for just a few pounds
How original
Wait till they find out that ugly vinyl bodywork adds super turbo blast mode.
Used to be called "go faster stripes"
now
callum's logic for choosing the ka was genuinely spot on
I was the 69th like on this comment.
I do think, for a starter, a front engine rwd car is preferable, but fwd can be a good learning tool for car control at the limit.

These challenges are at Top Gear level, these will become iconic
these guys are what (the new) Top Gear wishes it was
Oh yeah, it's all coming together!
Not only will, but also callum and scott
agreed! they have been able to do what MANY have (with much cringe) tried to replicate but still have their own flavor so its not a rip off.
@@HazardGarage exactly, they have completely different personalities to the og Top Gear hosts, and they don't try to fake it
My favorite sub 1000 bucks track car i ever owned was a beaten and battered Peugeot 206 GTI. Thing was destined for the scrapper but i saved and used it for the summer. Most fun i had in ages.
KA's are providing some decent racing entertainment atm, and showing up a few big name drivers in the process đđ
These are the challenges we love and cherish đ High quality content indeedđ
These challenges are honestly so entertaining, love it. I'd like to next see you each spend the value of the car (another grand) to make them more track focussed, and THEN do some track tours - Brands, Nurburgring, etc. Would be very cool to see what actual performance mods you can do for ÂŁ1K!
Flames, definitely add flames.
I'd reckon a decent bit of that budget would go toward brakes and tires
Brilliant stuff. Car challenges are a staple, and we won't ever get enough of them.
Nice!!! This is the type of stuff that we love to see! You guys are turning into the modern Top Gear and I love it
Its kinda suprising to see 3 adults being soo childish... so wholesome â€â€â€
Have you never heard of a little show called the grand tour?
@@GwilsonDrums yes exactly like that, these guys are soo wholesomeâ€ïžâ€ïžâ€ïžđ
@@GwilsonDrums I feel old when I see people think of Grand Tour before Top Gear when referring to the iconic Clarkson-Hammond-May trio. But in the end, it doesn't matter what's the name of they show they're doing.
@@georgthesecond well... sadly clackson is gonna end that era in a sweep... sounds like amazon ain't gonna wanna be working with him no more

This channel is an absolute gem. love it
So I woke up at 3am and found this channel today, it's now 7.30am and I have completed it. Once it started in the subaru series and then the skinny tyres Caterham, mixed with the 3 presenters, it's a solid new top gear and I'm all in. Subbed
Less than a minute in and I feel like I'm watching classic Top Gear, simply wonderful stuff :)
Great video!
However, I'll have to defend the Astra's styling a bit, just because it was used for one of my favourite race cars, the Opel Astra V8 Coupé. Sadly the street legal Astra OPC X-treme (name's a bit silly) never made it to the originally planned small series production
"They could give consent" đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
The new era of Top Gear has arrived!
Its what we needed :)
The acting is a little bit forced, but with experience comes excellence.
They did a good job in this one
More or less but nothing can beat old TopGear.
I LOVE this series. Thank you, guys
16:45 âi stay off the rubber and watch bomb hole, seems like a saturday night to meâ
This had me deadđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
You could use the mid engined MG and explore how weight distribution affects a cars over-/under-steer tendencies.
Put some additional weight in the front, rear or evenly distributed and see how it does.
I absolutely had a blast watching this.. my cheeks hurt from laughing so much đ awesome content lads love these videos! It almost gives me old school top gear vibes with you three having a dig at each other! đ
Will, do you know how excellent the astra is for track use? It's forgiving and teaches you a lot about steering wheel feedback. Well, at least the opel version, you know, the one where the steeringwheel is on the correct side? :D the suspension is superb, and increasing back tyre pressure to 3 bar and front tyre to 2.1 bar helped me back in the days to get his understeering behavior under control. Set the apex as late as possible, so you may get in the corner slowly but can accelerate earlier, because it understeers a lot under throttle and the lack of a lsd would just lead to wasted cornering potential. If you ever put hands on it, make sure reducing chamber in the rear an optionally increase it int the front, depends on the tyres you wanna use.
This channel absolutely has the vibe of older Top Gear series, where it was just a lot of good fun. Really hope you can keep that feel going as the channel gets more popular.
you guys make so much funny content, and you all have great natural chemistry between yous
The 1.7l engine from the Puma will fit right into that Ka, as will the front brakes and suspension. A little fettling will bring that engine to about 160bhp without affecting reliability. A mate bought a Ka with a blown engine and a water soluble Puma and combined the 2 for a track car. If you can find them, do it.
Totally LOVED this video. Top gear style that we're craving for...
So many things to do with those cars. I would like to see a NC500 with the proper guests đ (autoalex and the car throttle guys)
The Ford Ka is a tremendous little ball of fun - the example I drove at launch was fantastic - in fact I nearly bought one. Seriously underrated, fun cars!
I owned a 1.6 ka and that was fairly quick. So light a 1.6 made the thing fly
@@phrodendekia i own a 08' 1.3L manual. Sure is fun, stripped the interior in the back.
i bought my Ford Ka 2001 in 2013 with 120.000kms , Now it has 257.000kms and it still can catch 120 km/h without doing a big effort it's a 1.0 tecno edition Zetec Rocam
I had a first series 1.3, even the same colour of this one. The 1.3 engine had plenty of torque, and the car handled beautifully. The lateral G acceleration it could reach was a selling point at that time.
The Ka was my first Fast Ford. What a fabulous little fun box. Any rust in the fuel filler cap per chance?
This channel has the exact same energy as top gear but does things normal people can afford. 10/10
For your Anusol sponsorship, a tag line suggestion:
"Let the racing keep you on the edge of your seat, not your piles."
I really loved this top gear style videos, keep it up guys!!!
Brilliant stuff guys! Such a good show! It would be cool to see if you could spend another 500 and beat the times you set in the other cars at knockhill. The goal to be seeing what the best way is to go as fast as possible as cheap as possible!
Absolutely hilarious. So well planned and written. Fab!
Just the car show I've been craving
This very much reminds me of 3 middle aged men doing the same thing some years ago, keep it up lads! Have you considered doing a video with Alex Kersten? That would be a blast!
pure Top Gear content...lov u guys...this is amazing
Love this channel, always a pleasant surprise when I see an upload
Great to see something at Rockingham, shame that thereâs no racing there anymore
Is it back in use as a track again, rather than a car park? I love Rockingham
The Ka is more fun than most cars. Raw as hell đ
You are really making some good quality videos congrats
That ford Ka when built actually makes it a really fun track car. Very popular choice here in Brazil. I drive a Ka myself but it's a recent model and it has nothing to do with the original one (it's basically a Fiesta ST without the turbo). The original one is pretty iconic. I also remember it in Gran Turismo.
Excellent video,the "Special"livery is absolutely funny!!!đ€Łđ€Ł
Amazing content lads â€ïž
this is honestly the nearest thing we can get to a modern Top Gear and I love you guys for it
OMG I'm loving this episode alreadyđđđ
13:40 âjust go easy, build up, let me winâ đđ
Such great content this. To take the idea further, I'd say put in another grand in parts to upgrade the car to be even faster, then go racing again, and see who improved the most.
God why do i LOVE every video this channel uploads?
You are the guys we need in top gearđ
Please do more track day videos, this is epic!
You guys have nailed it again, brilliant video đ
"Where are the lads? Come on boys" said in utter silence had me dying
I love a banter and cheekiness of all 3 of these hosts. Really, theyâd be great if they took the place for new Top Gear.
I'd love to see you take a wrench to these cars and do what you can to make them good without breaking the bank! Some decent tires, weight reduction, good brakes, etc.
The chemistry between you guysđđđđđŒ
Hands down the best CZcams cars oriented Channel, every video gets me even convinced of this statement!!!
âšthat was a twitchy bum momentâš - Will's truly angelic voice
I love this trio
Please dont stop doing these. they give me old school top gear vibes
I loved my KA. Really fun car to drive, and it's so cheap that you don't really worry if you scrape it. Really did punish that engine and it lasted through 2 solid years of hard driving without proper warming up. And with no traction control, it was super fun in the wet. Easily spins the fronts up to 40 in first. The KA hasn't got any power, but it has just the right balance for fast cornering on tight back roads. Also really stuck to the road when I had my mate with me. Kept up with a fiesta on one of our decent driving roads. He pulled on the straights, but I caught him in the corners. Handbrake turns are also fairly easy as there is virtually no weight in the back. Can't fault that car one bit. The only issue we had was a dead battery.
Before the accident, I could probably have put that car up for sale for ÂŁ2000. No advisories other than a dodgy garage that failed her for rust that was magically gone when we went to another garage. Really was in great condition. Unfortunately she got written off on the 8th of Jan 2023 as an 86 year old woman tried to turn into a carpark infront of me whilst I was doing 50mph on a 60mph road which was straight and flat, with nothing obstructing her view of my car. Not much you can do in any car in that situation. I'll miss my little yeg, And I won't ever forget her.
Onwards and upwards though. Next car is going to be a 2015 to 2018 focus, preferably the 1.5. More power and wider tires, so hopefully I won't have fiestas pulling away from me on the straights anymore.
this channel is slowly becoming top gear and I love it
I was marshalling at the final corner, i thought the ka was going to roll most laps đđ he liked the sausage kerb
Love your stuff guys! I think you should upgrade all your cars with another ÂŁ1000 and take them on track again
The best part is when Jeremy and Richard tinkered with James' car when he was inside the store đ€Ł
Absolutely loved it!
Maybe try to improve your cars within a fixed certain budget them a bit as per your test and go on a long ride also around a track.
This channel is absolutely incredible!
âAnd here we are, through Bomb Hole - first time for everythingâ
First time for everything indeed Callum! Happy for ya đđŸ
You know what would be nice for this type of challenges? People getting along well and respecting each other, not trying to copy Top Gear.
Ka is an epic handling car, of which u can use all of the power. Fun like a Go-Cart, with a wheel planted right on the edge each corner.
I used to love burning round in my Wife's old Ka!!
Giving old top gear vibes
You three need to do an EnduroKA Race to see how well you guys get on as a team, would love to see it.
these challenges are top gear / car throttle level, hope to see more actions from these car
I love the Ka as racing car! Had some of my funniest drives in it! Just get it on a very small, curvy track with bumps and jumps! ThatÂŽs the most fun, you can have in a car! It is so agile! Has the (not so bad) running gear of a Fiesta, but is even smaller and lighter. Just get it on the right track and freak out!
Won't be allowed now you have 'painted' them but would be great to see you guys do a targa rally in boggo standard 1000ÂŁ cars in the same categories. Could be a whole little serise! Car prep, practice, how tos and see who can win! Would be good to see targas get some coverage
im sure you 3 are in the uk same as me and we dont use the dollar we use the good old English pound so you got 3 cars for 808.50
Love these racing videos
I think you guys should turn these cars into track beasts and see who can build the fastest car
This is great lads more like it
I had a Ford Ka. It went on all kinds of track days because I knew what I had - Ford's Fiesta IV platform which was always excellent.
Yes, you can overtake Porsches because it's like driving a wee little roller skate.
I love this channel. Enough said
Used to have a cayman and it came on 8 year old tyres, I fully understand what happened to Callum, itâs like driving on plastic wheels in that weather, great fun đ
Well I'm going to miss the old name "Driven Media" But at least with "OVERDRIVE" people won't confuse you all with DonutMedia, so in my mind this is an absolute step up!
Take the drive to nurburg, throw a grand at mods for track day and 1st place gets 1st class transport back and others drive (if possible) back to blighty.
Loving the work chaps.
OG Top Gear vibes. Even if this idea isnât âoriginalâ I still love it.
The window stripes are priceless. That killed me LOL
Why wasnât it over the windscreen too though? đ
Little did Scott know how much that car would prove them all wrong, what a machine.
you guys are my top gear now that the original crew is gone. keep it up
I love this, it reminds me of top gear.
Callum discovered what MGF's were really good at when they first appeared on the market, going backwards into ditches and hedges in the wet on corners and roundabouts.
Suppose that's what happens when you bolt 2 Rover Metro front ends back to back and stick the kettle prone engine in the rear and call it a sports car
Do tires, brake pads/fluid, dampers, routine maintenance and head out for round 2. I bet they would actually be fun then.
then the MG would demolish the other cars lmao, the tyres were the only thing holding it back
these channel will be a legend like top gear and grand tour
Great to have you chaps along on the Track day hape you survived the A14 home !
I did an Opentrack event at Cadwell a few years back with biblical rainfall. Great day. I was in my Alfasud and didnât overtake a single other car! I can highly recommend Opentrack. Great guys and the format is brilliant - you can drive as little or as much as you want. No pressure and you choose when you go on track and when you come back in. And Cadwell is an awesome track too. If anyone is tempted to try a track day, give it a go đ
As someone who owned an mg tf (ÂŁ200 plus ÂŁ200 for a new subframe - good deal!) Callum is a brave guy. Anything remotely slippy and 2,500 revs would spin the wheels and make it swap ends like it was nothing! Spun into a snowdrift twice in it...good times until the head gasket went!
The âwhy is my car so slowâ voice over/edit was so funny đđđ Mic broke?
Love the KA, grandfarther owns one and used to race it! he did pretty decent and even got featured in a magazine in the early 2000's!
Love this episode. I drive my MGF on the racetrack a few times each year. Although mine doesnât have a golden steering wheel, Itâs actually a super fun car for track days! :)
