This band is incredible, so this isn’t a criticism at all but their gigs have been very straight forward over the years (amazing live) and it seems they’re really going for it at live shows now. Taking the audience on a real trip, throwing all these covers into their tunes. Hope they carry on with this when it comes to touring their next album.
They sound better now that all intricate auxiliary instrumentation isn’t falling on Rostam’s shoulders despite not exactly being a virtuoso on keys or guitar
I would argue that he was a really agile keyboardist on some of that baroque-y stuff. But yeah the 2nd and 3rd records never fully translated live, reliant on playback.

Cobey C.B the taxi bridge comes to mind. Beautiful composition but struggled to play it live.
Part of Rostam's charm was that his playing was understated. I much prefer what he brought to VW over this... mmm, Jerry Garcia-type playing.
