  • For 2021 the TLX has some big shoes to fill. It is simultaneously the flagship sedan of the brand, and the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class fighter. Like Cadillac's CT5, the TLX is a full-size larger on the outside than a 330i while being about the same size inside, but unlike the CT5 and more like the Volvo S60, the TLX still starts as a FWD sedan with Acura's SH-AWD system being optional on all models. Acura has certainly pushed the boundaries of how dynamic an Acura can be with the new TLX, but is that enough? Let's find out.

As long as it doesn't become a money pit at 60k miles like much of the German competition I think Acura have a winner on their hands.

Don’t forget reliability, something the Germans don’t have.

This car let me down... Its too large, too heavy & too small on the inside. Over 200lbs heavier than the 330i

As an owner of a TLX A Spec, your review is very good, but I think your last point about interior material quality is a bit unfair. I've test driven or rented each of the Germans in this class, including the MB C300, the Audi A5 and the BMW 3 series. Out of all of them, the TLX A Spec may not have had the best designed interior, but the materials themselves were among the best. The Germans use a LOT of hard plastics everywhere while most of the "metal" accents are actually just painted plastic. The A-Spec and Advance trims of the TLX use a lot more leatherette, and everything that looks like metal is actually metal. Again, not speaking to design, but the Germans do tend to be stingier with their materials for the prices they're asking.

I'm pretty sure Acura said that the wood & metal you see and feel is genuine.

You said "fun" alot and that's what Acura fans are looking for. They also vastly improved the interior which was one if the biggest complaints about it.

Acura should have moved the TLX up and made it the same size as the G80 then remake the ILX to be a genuine 3 series/G70 competitor

My my, so many comments. 1. The BASE A4 is slower, all other A4s are faster. 2. My bad, it appears the V6 will be a single turbo which is pretty rare but Acura stressed that official specifications are yet to be released. 3. The wood trim in the advance package is real, my comments on the imitation metal trim applied to the trim I tested only. The sill plates and pedals are metal, and Acura implies that there is metal trim elsewhere but all I can say is the trim in this model was not. If you look at metal trim used in cars, it is not a solid piece, it is an aluminum cover over a plastic trim component and the aluminum edge it is clearly visible on the trim panel when it is removed, these panels showed no such layers.

The touch controller is a no go. I tried this out and its reactions are not so great. A good touchscreen is a lot better than what Acura gives you here. This is slightly faster than the Luxury version of the Toyota Camry (ES 350) which can stop faster. Plus the Acura is over 300 lbs. heavier than the lowly ES. I think I will pass. I owned a 2003 Acura TL which was the worst purchase I have ever made. Lost the transmission after 60,000 and the second at 119,000. A 2006 Saab 9-3 I owned until recently lasted 12 years, 190,000 when I sold it still running fine. Why Acura could not make a good transmission back then is beyond me.

Finally I found a good car reviewing channel. I've been tired of watching so called reviewers who spend so many minutes explaining the shape of the grill and body linings. This dude is straight to the point and explain what is needed.

Never forget Acura’s rock solid reliability. That has to account for something as well when you consider the price... I’m also sure the maintenance cost will be a LOT cheaper than the comparable Europeans.

I have been a subscriber to your channel since 2016 when i made a choice after watching one of your reviews to buy a car. Only other time i can remember you "going back to edit an ending " was cause of a sound issue or something. When you did that ending it reminded me of myself when ive choosen to buy a car. Had to go and say " i need to drive it more and think about it" 👍🏾 appreciate you review as always.

I like it, I liked the last TLX too. I opted for the 18 Honda Accord Touring 2.0 purely because it was cheaper.
