How's My Budget Suspension Holding Up? | TruHart Coilover Review

- In today's highly requested video, I give you a 2 YEAR Review of my Budget Coilover Suspension on my Honda Civic! I talk about my overall experience with TruHart Coilovers and deep dive into comfort, performance, and wear & tear. Hopefully this info will be helpful!
Typically the words "budget" and "suspension" don't end in the best result, but my experience has been...different. I've been running the TruHart suspension components for 2 years now and wanted to give you my overall feedback. I wanted to make this review to help future buyers in finding a suspension that I think offers the best bang for the buck. Lowering your car is one thing, but there are SO many other variables when it comes to the driveability of a lowered car.
In my search over 2 years ago for a decent full bodied coilover, I stumbled across the TruHart brand. There was little to no reviews but I had a good feeling that they might work out. To some, a $500 coilover may seem pricey, but to others, it may seem "too cheap." I found that most decent coilovers with good reviews were far out of my price range but I really wanted something with adjustability. If I remember right, the TruHart Street Plus coilover has an 8k/6k spring rating which seemed like a go-to for daily driving and spirited driving. I've done both with this setup over the 2 years and am SUPER happy with the comfort.
In this video I explain why I wanted a full bodied coilover vs. the old school spring and strut combo or a slip on coil. I think that nowadays with options like this, it makes sense to go with the real thing. I also talk about how the car handled before and after the rest of my supporting suspension mods. i think for the money, this is a hard setup to beat regardless of the platform for the price. I've had no major issues so far and see these lasting for many more years. Hope this has been helpful for everyone on the fence about the brand or the product!

Just got some for my hatch a month ago. Only 14 now but can’t wait to drive it
Got mine when i first turned 17 and i been building it the past year, havent been able to drive it much at all cuz i dont have my liscense yet. I totalllyyyyy get what ur feeling

really cool to get into cars that young. you will thank yourself later. cheers
@@vaylesmith9607 are you in the 🇺🇸, and if so how did you get a type r hatch here?

I’ve had my true hart street plus on my crv since May of 2018, never removed, driven hard and many many miles! Replaced one strut because I was hit on my qtr panel and bent the strut . No complaints!
sick dude, thinking about buying some for my v
Looking to get some, do you still have this car and if so have you faced any issues since 3 years ago?
I was here first im the one that said im going to make my car black and white 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

Dude, you’ve re-inspired me to get my Civic back on the road and looking good again. Thank you, I think...
If she runs keep her decent. Suspension ain't too pricey I mean if it needs it. Car market is crazy right now. Put some cheap painted Suspension, cheap cold air, paint the valve cover turquoise, some ricer will buy it way over what its worth. And they this might sound crazy but if the paint is just completely shot and body panels are different colors a good kyrlon turbo rattle can paint job can really improve the look I mean long as you're good with a rattlecan I mean its better than the rust bucket look ya know. Young ricers love civics. Find cheap parts at salvage yards and recyclers make it look 10 years younger cheap enough
I got Truhart Coilovers as well in my EG (plus Rear LCA's, front upper arms, rear camber and toe arms, and subframe brace from them too) All great stuff! Not problems after almost two years, highly recommend Truhart products.
Awesome! I think these comments will be helpful for others
@@ALLDAYANTHONY You said it yourself, best Coilover for the budget price, 100% back that.
How much was the entire setup cost? Is it a kit or individual parts purchased? Link?
@@mvc2177 man this a was a while back, I was purchased them all individually. I’d like to say it was ~$1000 for it all, but not positive. Whatever it was, it was worth it.
Can you fit 16” with the coils?
Your videos pushed me to get a full truhart suspension besides the camber arms I got a deal on skunk2 for those and I absolutely love. Super smooth ride and no clunking.

How’re the truharts holding up? I have an 03 RSX type s that I daily and I’m interested in them
I bought Truhart because you shared the link and so far they are holding up well. I give them the run for their money though on the canyons.
That’s my experience too!
I was skeptical when looking for coilovers for my 9th gen si after watching this I’m going to pull the trigger on buying them ASAP now I appreciate it
@@aaronrusher7347 I've had them a little over a year and still going strong.
what’s it like on those roads? Like what don’t you like ab these coils when ur driving on canyon roads?
@@SansMizu1119 either these or function form type 1s are my options. how did you like them? Gonna drive the car hard on the mountains
Based on my experience, a softer spring up front and ANY rear sway would make it more comfortable, make it rotate better, and still keep it just as flat. Keep in mind you need a stiffer bar to counteract stiffer springs, so an oem hollow 22-23mm might not be enough.
A stiffer rear sway bar on a fwd car would cause more oversteer on top of the natural fwd oversteer.
@@MRMAN-wb1tv could i just get wider wheels in the rear to combat oversteer traction?
Dude, Anthony, amazingly well done video. Well spoken & hit all of the key points. I just purchased a TSX Wagon and I've been looking for something that's inexpensive but can still perform while maintaining ride quality. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this video. So many people posting videos that have no idea what they're talking about. I know you didn't get paid for this video but maybe you should. I think at a minimum you have a promising future in sales. 😁👌👍😁

For the price, those are definitely decent. I think the next closest would be the Progress CSII, but those are an extra $100. Very nice video and informative for anyone thinking about getting these.
Have had used ones on my civic for about a year and couldn’t be happier with them
Hell yeah! That’s great
How much drop can you get on these?
It would be cool if you could compare the major brands with budget lines: TRUHart vs Godspeed vs Megan Racing. They all have their own followings & very good reviews. So how to know which is the best budget coil overs. I don't have any friends that are into cars or modifying cars, so I can't really compare them, with a driving test... but I bet you do? Anyhow great video & you answered all of my questions about Truehart's. Thank you!
Your vids finally convinced me to pull the trigger on an EK civic... my Truharts should be coming in the mail tomorrow! haha. Great videos!
Wooo!
I've just recently started considering coilovers for my own budget Civc that I bought for a cheap daily. I had seen the Tru Harts and slightly considered them, only knowing them as an ebay coilover. I was also considering the "R" brand you mentioned. This video was very helpful. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
What did you decide
what is said r brand?
I have truhart coilovers on my 2009 Honda Civic si and have been great with no problems at all, been daily driving them for a year now.
thanks so much for the review!!! defs got me hyped to pull the trigger on them on a cg6
Rev9 are great coilovers same price range. An they have a 16 way damp adjustment also.
I recently bought a 92 Si and it came with some Function form type 1s. Guy said they were 5 years old and they still feel perfect.
Right on! Keep em going!
Niiice set up bro, I was researching and I ended up here.. lol. Iwas looking into buying some coilovers and installing them in my car sometime next month.. moreover, your video helped alot.. I liked how you measured the the tire gap on how low the suspension is.. very helpful bro.. I made up my mind, buying these asap.
“starts with a r” me-“RACELAND”
Rev 9 maybe?
@@holdenwong2403 Not sure if Rev 9 was really around 2 years ago. They are pretty new.
Rev9 has been around for awhile now. They used to make crappy chinese turbo kits for the vq35de.
Is it Raceland? A friend just suggested these to get for my civic and I'm looking into buying them.. bbuuutttt, if it's not worth then I'm not going to get em.. LOL.

The content that everyone wishes to see and you don’t disappoint. I love my TruHart street plus coils on my rsx. My brother has them on his ej1 and they don’t disappoint for the price.
That’s great man. Glad they are holding up!
Does he sometimes get that pull when driving? Like does his car pull to the left or right with those coil overs ? I’m having that issue right now with mines a mechanic of mines said one common issue with them is they sometimes pull to the left or right at times with truharts
@@ccenda3109 if anything I would see you pulling to the left or right with a bad alignment, torque steer from an open diff, or just pulling/pushing the steering wheel and not realizing it. Like my Rsx has an open diff and it torque steers when I do a pull...that’s the only reason it’s pulling, I wouldn’t say it’s the TruHart coils. My brothers ej1 has a lsd in it and it pulls straight. 🤷🏾♂️
@@MangoKev cuz I got my alignment couple days ago and it pulls to the right now I just be cruising on the freeway and I won’t even have my hands on steering wheel just to see if it keeps straight which it does but at times I catch the steering wheel pull to the right too much I almost crashed a wall. The guy who did my alignment told me he has had people with truharts who experience the same thing but idk if that’s accurate I’m just tryna see what the problem is.
@@ccenda3109 id go to another alignment shop tbh...or check if something suspension related is bent? Bad tires?

Debated getting these for my accord but decided to go with function and form. truharts definitely look solid for budget coilovers though. Nice content and clean cars man🤘
How are the f&f?
@@shechosejl I love them. Definitely worth the money. They slammed my car to the ground and ride nice. A little stiff but I prefer it over a softer ride
Thanks for putting up this video, I am ordering Front lower control arms for my 99ek now! cheers
Good vid, I was looking for budget coilovers for my mk4 golf and now I know what I'm getting
The negatives for these cheaper suspension arms: they use rubber bushing as opposed to 3-piece polyurethane or spherical bushings. Over a long period of time the rubber bushings will tear due to their lack of articulation.
Except they use HardRace's rubber, which wears better than OEM rubber (which lasts a LONG time when assembled right). Poly on other arms, even Sk2, takes a crap after a short period. Even ES & Prothane will sag & wallow out, that's just what poly does. Spherical is way overkill for the road. You also need some movement & deflection in the 88-00 rear suspensions, which only rubber provides.
Currently running truhart sport struts with tein springs on my accord. Works great!
Running a set on my 2010 supercharged civic si...
They're a little firm but only bc I love to ride corners & back roads. Other than, no complaints.
Right on!
I'm debating on getting truhart for my 09 civic, how are they doing??
@@Laufzy just washed my car today, in 70 degree weather. Still taking corners man! Lol.

you are macking me of thinking for buying a honda civic 😅
You should!
Hi Anthony...I was watching the video because I have a 2003 Matrix and I completely redid it from scratch, paint, front end... anyway, a lot of work and now I was thinking of putting a suspension on it that is not too expensive but not too cheap either, something in between. I really liked the video and I wanted to ask you if I would put this suspension on it, would it go down a lot? Would it get too stiff? I have it for daily use and I don't know how uncomfortable it could be... I've never put suspension on cars... but I want it to look nicer and I think that's the touch it's missing..!
GREASE THE TOP MOUNTS!! Just installed a set on my lancer and was getting crazy spring clunk whenever I turn the wheel left or right.. it's the top mounts binding.. put on some grease, and gone. Just a heads up for anyone!! Happened to another buddy of mine and he has a set worth twice as much. Sometimes they just don't get greased up
Hey ANTHONY I love the car very clean and professional. You've done a GREAT job at showing how good a budget built honda can look and perform. Hats off to you sir. I do have a question though, I noticed your window trim is PERFECTION, they look brand new. How did you achieve this? Mine are all faded. If you've already covered this topic in another video just post a link please. Any information is much appreciated. Thank you for the high quality content. I look forward to seeing how far this build goes. 🔥
I actually haven’t covered it! I did my own vinyl wrap on them. But maybe it’s worth a video?
They look really nice. I do believe ALOT of people would be interested in knowing how it was done. Thank you for the response. 10 thumbs up.
Keep uploading, Anthony. Cool civic
Well I have a set of Truhart sport shocks and Megan springs on my EM1. I purchased these to replace some Coilovers that were over 10 years old. This is my first time going down this sort of suspension Road as I am 58 years old. The card is feeling somewhat stiff on the bumps. But I don’t really have a whole lot to compare it to. I was wondering if maybe these Coilovers would’ve been a better decision. The car is a bit lower than I would like. I like your videos. Thank you very much.
I've had the street plusses on my Del Sol for a while. It's at about a 2 inch drop rn and it's been great, but I think I might raise it a little.
Oh yeah, 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Definitely adding those to the EK.
Do it!
@@ALLDAYANTHONY can I buy these coilovers for my 2000 honda civic ex and LX ?
My mechanic was really surprised with how the quality was of the truhart I put on.

They really are that light lol
i love your channel man thank you for the video this really really helped!
You should paint the calipers black or red u I think it would look cool
I had the same thing happen I drove for a while and it was crazy noise Here and there ‘ I Fixed it instantly boost my beginner mechanic skills 🎉🎉🎉
Had my coilovers on for a few months now and love them. I stay in a state with one of the worst roads and the coilovers push through like nothing.
Truhart is some good stuff, I’ve used a lot of their parts for my hondas. I wouldn’t throw Raceland out of the game though, I run their Primo series coils on my Infiniti and love them they actually ride just as nice as most of the higher brand coils I’ve ran on other cars, and I have a friend who’s been running their Ultimos for 2+ years with no issues also, plus a lifetime warranty now.
Same her on a 1990 miata, 2 years later and still good with a nice ride, I also have a civic and looking to upgrade.
Nice bro. I have the maxpeedingrods on mine and they are doing great as well. Like you said, the majority of people with issues are probably using them wrong.
What kind of car do you have those on? I've seen a lot of hate on that brand online because the springs are fairly weak..I'm not expecting track day setups for 300 bucks but I'm somewhat tempted to throw a set on my camry ..but she's an old girl lolol
@@thelastcowboy7576 I have em on 2 accords and a civic. I drive the crap out of my cars and don't have any issues. Great coilover for the price. I have videos on my channel
@@DrivenFilmsPhotography nice I'll have to check that out. I definitely won't be driving the crap out of my camry but my 86 on the other hand may need some coils too so these truharts or something similarly priced may be in my future
I feel the same my godspeed is perfect and good enogh is the negative is that they only have one damn year warranty on them. just last year my front started leaking but that probably cause of my preloaded set up that burst. But everything works good. Run on 4 years now. With godspeed.
Tell us the “miles” you had accumulated With the coils. Not How long you had it. I had mine for 15 years still ride like brand new. Because I only put on 1k miles since
thank you for making this, had to comment for the algorithm
Thank you for the review, Rolling on maxed out RLands almost a year 03 civic they fill fine, as good as you can get with slammed coils but Megan Racing LcAs and strut bars/braces front, back, bottom. 🤷🏼♂️

Probably would have been better to remove the coilover from the drivers front while you narrate and then inspect the coilover assembly itself for surface corrosion, leaks, erosion etc. It also would have made a little extra content to view during narration. Keep up the good work im a fan
I could have, but I looked them over in my detailing video! They still look great!
Purchased the truhart coilovers after the video 😌
Great video. I’m looking at these but my car is a 3IS. Should I get these or go Tein, appreciate your opinion.

Hi, I would like to install coilovers on my Del Sol, I am new to all these...I just want to lower my vehicle a few inches and improve the comfort while driving it. My stock suspension is good, but adding coilovers would improve it? DO i need to install the rest of the parts you mention in the video? What would you reccomend? I would like to improve bump handling..that is one of my main goals. Thanks.
Take my money truheart. Great vid my guy.
Are you running extended ball joints, flipped tire rod ends, or anything else that corrects the geometry? I was wondering because I'm at a cross road between spending the extra money to correct geometry or just running stock replacements? The civic currently has coilovers, camber kits, and front lower control arms all from TruHart.

U should try tokico coilovers. You would love them.
Just a heads up there's a good chance these will sit at stock height by the sounds of it.
Unless I'm mistaken you were saying the length comparison out the box was to a stock strut out the box?
Stock spring rate is 165 lbs/inch 8kgs is just shy of 450 lbs/inch. The original strut will compress more then the coil over with body weight alone.

I bought the Function and Form Type 2 coilovers for my Integra (same setup). They are similar but have the dampening adjustability too. I'm looking at getting the same TruHart front UCA and Rear too like yours. How do you like the front UCAs? Does the 4 bolt setup hold everything tight. I was originally looking at getting K-Tuning for that part because it has 6 camber bolts instead of 4 bolts that the TruHart has but the 4 bolts are a little larger so maybe that's better or good enough? Just wanted to make sure the front UCA had enough adjustability for when I take it in to get an alignment and that it will stay there over the years and not need adjusting later. I plan to lower mine exactly like yours. Thanks so much if you could reply before I purchase.
They are great. I have no complaints with the camber kits
I got function forms type 2 I got used and honestly suck and are probably shot will this be a downgrade ?? I want something smooth my friend had blox coilovers and it rides way better then mine
Hope u can help me out i bought a 2003 accord and it has the same coilovers but it feels really ruff on bad roads. Is it because they already worn out or is just the way they feel ? Btw i am not sure how old they are.
