Thanks for this video. I borrowed an A6000 from my friend with several lenses and the first time I used it, it had the Sony 35mm attached. With absolute beginner skills at 'manual' cameras, the results of the first few test photos were very satisfying. Then I took the kit lens out to play, but could see it was kind of 'meh' when I uploaded them on my computer.
I always used compact cameras or mobile phones to take pictures and to be able to play around, figure out the trinity with this camera and the 35mm and get such detail is so nice. When I decide to get my own APS-C, I will consider the 35mm as the 2nd or perhaps even the first lens along with the body.

I disagree with the concept of moving, walking to get your photo would make you a better photographer. It depends. Many People forget that the standpoint changes and if your motiv needs you to say where you are and shoot the photo with a 200mm it would not help to walk with a 35mm towards that motiv to full the frame with it. Like in life, your standpoint decides.

The 35mm & 50mm lenses have a different compression and depth of field characteristics, so it doesn't matter what size sensor you put on the back of them they will always look different, the only thing your doing by putting on a different size sensor on the back is the amount that your cropping in, Field of view and compression/ depth of field are still different, that's why when people use Medium format they say it has a certain look! that's because you are using longer focal lenses say 110mm to get a similar field of view to a full frame 80mm filed of view. but its not the same compression/Look, its a different look.

Interestingly, a 50 was/is rarely in the bags of photojournalists, even in the days of primes. 50's were packaged with almost every film SLR, and it was a great way to start, but it was a focal length that photographers who had access to multiple lenses kind of just left on the shelf. Wides and telephotos just had more of an impact to the eye, I guess I'd put it. And many National Geographic photogs covered the world with a small bag holding a couple of Leica rangefinders, a 21, a 35 and a 90. Of course, they needed an extra-large bag to carry six months worth of Kodachrome, lol.

I agreed with you, most CZcamsrs recommended 50mm because 50mm is the 'king' but they don't mention about equivalent focal length and they osho don't know their viewers use APSC. And I feel like being cheated by them. But now I don't care about gear anymore. I use what I have. Of course 50mm on APSC is like way too much zoom (75mm maybe) but when you get used to it, you know how to handle that situation.

After watching this video, i'm definitely getting the sony 35mm 1.8 as my second lens for my 6400. But does it make sense if i get (as my 3rd lens) the sony 30mm 3.5 macro lens in the future for underwater photography? Or get the 50mm 1.8 instead as my second lens? As always, more power!

if you're doing selfie vlogs, you will need something wider than 35mm. 16mm at least but wider the better. For video in general, Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS will your best bet for a6400.

I watched your previous videos on using a 50mm lens on an apsc camera so I knew to expect that it will be a tighter shot vs how it should be on a full frame camera.
I managed to get the sony oss 50mm 1.8 for such a good price. I looked at the 35mm oss but it was just not in my budget. We'll see how I feel about the 50mm once I can use it outside. So far I've only been doing indoor portraits and I'm really liking the results.

People often recommend 50 mm as it is cheap. On APS-C it is a portrait lens. I think the pest general purpose lens is 35 mm on full frame of 22-24 mm on APS-C. The s called normal lens or 50 mm is IMO way too tight in many cases. 35 mm is a good choice for Nikon but Canon does not have one for APS-C (except as Macro)

Already have one, and the best one in that focal length or in any for Sony/Fuji apsc. Zeiss Touit 32mm f1.8. It is costlier than my a6000, but best value of money for the results it gives, worth every penny. It may sound expensive, but is cheaper than any great Zeiss, RF, L or RF mount full frame 50mm lens, for similar results. That's a steal at this price. It is so sharp, that cropped images can outclass 55-210 zoom. Colour rendition is marvellous and is sharp corner to corner even at f1.8, with no or unnoticeable distortion. I use it along with Sony 50 f1.8 OSS, another sharp lens. Latter for portraits and low light shots. Else it is Zeiss Touit logo hiding my a6000 brand all the time. I will prefer it then to have a cheap Chinese made manual focus 35mm on a6600. (Sony 35mm f/1,8 OSS can substitute both lenses if budget matters, with just a fraction of loss in image quality, still better than others).

I am referring to both 35mm lens designed for APS-C & FF. If you're using an APS-C body, you have to take the crop factor into consideration regardless. Check out this excerpt from B&H on the APS-C 50mm lens - "Enjoy a near perfect portrait-length perspective on your APS-C E-mount camera with this black E 50mm f/1.8 OSS Lens from Sony, *which provides a 75mm equivalent focal length.*"
