Have you had any outside influences on your riding? What do you think about the identity of mountain biking? Les us know 👇
Hiking. It gives you an appreciation for terrain and how it behaves, teaches you to pick your kit just right, opens your mind to under-rated gear (all my MTB trousers are hiking trousers, much better value). Also let's you scope spots without the temptation to just rip around.
Identity of mountain biking? Go out and ride! Watch surfing, watch skiing, watch whatever. Just remember that the interwebs is poor substitute for riding your bike. F**k identity.
Like so many other former BMX kids from the 90's, I took the tricks out on the trails. Makes riding so much more fun. Street BMX also taught me to look for features where there aren't many. A simple root or rock can be a launchpad for good laughs, while most people would roll over them, or even avoid them.
BMX, Skateboarding, Snowboarding & cross country skiing have all impacted my mountain biking method. I learned a myriad of specific skills that translate directly to MTB. Like being able to see the line by reading the terrain and there are many many more. When are you going to show my Bike Cave? (Wink) Great show boys especially Hans! Cheers - M
Colin Mcrea Subaru impreza 555 group a rallysport maby motorcycle rally raid racing current Pol Tarres do's insane euduro riding whit a very heavy motorcycle.
I rode the hell out of an entry level giant as a teenager in the mid 90s, really rode it into the ground 😂 My parents bought me a real cross country bike from a local shop in northern new jersey, that LBS included Hans Rey’s Level Vibes VHS. I wore that tape out, I started a mountain bike club in my high school and rented the vhs /tv player from the av club to show my friends and got them excited about it…. I bought my first Monty in 1998 and that was it. I rode trials for decades, never paying one inch of mind to mountain bikes. I met and rode with Hans a few times in Laguna, a life goal- he is a total legend. I have just started riding mountain bikes again, live in western north carolina- less than 10 rides on a bike that isn’t a 26” xc vee brake bike… It is still fun ! Still riding expert level trials , hope to make it more popular in Pisgah!!!
If you can get more people in like Hans Rey as special guests, it makes the show just that little more special. The insights into riding from their experiences is great to listen to.
Hans is always a great guest! He's always welcome to hang out in the shed
Hans- "its always good when you can tell the tale", now that's the quote of the year for me. x
I started out dirt biking and racing enduro’s and hare scrambles. I crossed trained on mountain bikes. As I got older I just rode mountain bikes, and now I just eMountain bike. I found that all four of those sports complemented each other.
His books got me started in the 90ies.
So cool!
Thanks Hans Ray for coming on the show from an old fan
It's always good fun to see Hans! How long have you been a fan of his for?
@@gmbn I was a late bloomer, I have only been a fan for around 15 years
Great episode...thanks, Hans!
I’m just starting out in mtb so don’t know much about it all yet and influencers etc but I do find the community out on the trails are not all that friendly but I have found online it’s the opposite and friendly and helpful.
Great Dirt Shed show Blake,Neil and Hans 🤘
I had ro pause it as it reminded me i hadn't got my ticlet to see Hans on his tour 😲
Ticlet booked fpr Tueday in Andover 👊🤘
Great stuff GMBN
Its because of Hans Rey and Gary Ellis that I still am the biggest GT fan boy. Only ride GT since the mid 90's. First BMX and then MTB and Road. All on GT's 🤟
that's dedication! Which was your favourite GT over the years?
@@gmbn my favorite has to be the very first GT my parents bought me, a 1994 GT Interceptor BMX. I still have it in my mancave. I wanted that bike so badly back then. 🤣
#captioncontest ' Having wheelie good timing is critical for photo bombs '!
I just wonder how he relaced that welded wheel - if it's laced with spokes in one length the hub is out of center, and if you center the hub the spokes have individual lengths.
The bend of a 622 rim is also different from a 584 rim.
The welding is in this case the simplest thing.
It was great to see you Hansjorg on the Dirt Shed Show. I hope your tour is an overwhelming success. Great show boys except the bike vault. There are no rules and it is pure anarchy which is kind of cool I guess. Cheers - M
When I was a kid my Dad made me choose 2 activities so I raced BMX bikes and played ice hockey. Each benefited from the other, cycling gave me better fitness than most if not all other players and being ok with body contact helped me race bikes. It turned out great for me...
Mtn biking helped me later on with off road RC car racing suspension setup and jumping because of my comfort in the air 👍🏼
Hans is indirectly responsible for at least 3 of my scars! :p
😳?
@@gmbn Reading an article or seeing a vid with him in and thinking "I'll have a go at that!", resulting in me somehow piledriving my own head into the ground like a tent peg, followed by the inevitable hospital visit lol....
Not just Hans though, Peaty is responsible for quite a few of my scar collection too! :D
Would've loved a podcast style discussion with Hans Rey.
Hans in the dirtshed show! one of my heroes🙌
Enduro Motorcycling - a very friendly environment, be it a pro world champ to a Sunday leisure rider, we are all in it for the fun and love to share with our families :)
Super Enduro is an event format that could be properly cool with MTB
Hans down the best guest on the show since Jake Atkinson 😂 Seeing Han’s tour at Sale(MCR) where I saw Martyn’s too 🤘❤️🌈🕊️🌍
Both great guests! 🤘👊
Would have been great to have Martin in the interview too still great show 😊
That's so awkward for Hans to always get up and stand behind Neil and Blake. Rearrange the set, boys!
#captioncontest I've learnt to wheelie just need to work out how to steer!
My off the bike sport is kickboxing it uses all the same muscle groups and weight transfers. And when I learn to jump and do tricks, the various areal stuff will defently influence my tricks.
The prices of these new bikes are ridiculous! $220 for shoes? $4K for a Carbon frame??? Have they lost their minds??? Few will pay the asking price>>>
Who is this guy anyway?
LOL
Great to hear from him 😊
That weird welded rim is exactly the kind of thing Blake would do
Sorry, for a minute there it sounded like you said £220 for some shoes😂
Great program. Who put the full face on the log burner ?
We will need to investigate that David, luckily it's not a real log burner... 😉
Not necessarily a sport but if you want to develop good steady training regimes, martial arts and learning a musical instrument will help you develop steady practice regimes as you learn the ins and outs and you can take the practice theories and apply them to your riding.
Hope you talk about what's going to happen with Nukeproof, really hope they stick around definitely one of my favourite mtb brands.
😱 WHAT HAPPENED TO THE PLANT IN THE BACKGROUND?
#captioncontest my friend: look at that super nice bike over there…. But don’t make it obvious!
Me:….
I have been away for a bit….what happened to Martin? I have not noticed him hosting recently 😢
#captioncontest "Yeah Baby! Magnum!"
#captioncontest Trying to pretend that we’re not dying after that hill climb
#captioncontest Maybe if I block out the roadies, promote the GMBN jersey AND socks, then they will overlook how loose my helmet strap is... I wheelie hope so.
Equestrian sport and MTB.
Is anyone else wondering if that helmet is going to melt on top of the fireplace?
It's a fake flame 👍😁
The fake fireplace also stands directly on wood which would be illegal in most countries - it's just fake, that's only a studio and it's likely there is no chimny at all nearby
#captioncontest Chief Editor of the Whitby Gazette gets creative with photoshop to cleverly censor a rather lewd photo of the local bike group in disturbingly tight lycra shorts.
Helmet on the woodburner? Straight in the bin...
It's a fake woodburner (electric, with a flickering piece of cloth as a 'flame') - plus this is a set anyway so unlikely to be even on heat mode in the first place... but yes, good idea to remind people not to put their helmet on an actual woodburner!
Where is Martyn is he ok?
#captioncontest "Don't mind me, I'm trying to impersonate Blake Samson"
#captioncontest it is the duty of every MTBer to ruin any roadie photos
#captioncontest I wheelie must get going
Think the Fullface will be full cooked by the end of the show😂

If one can safely weld a bike rim and take their time to relace the wheel, better weld something for money instead and buy the whole new wheel with that.
I just wonder how he relaced that - if it's laced with spokes in one length the hub is out of center, and if you center the hub the spokes have individual lengths.
The bend of a 622 rim is also different from a 584 rim.
The welding is in this case the simplest thing.
@@simonm1447 well, bending shouldn't be much of a problem, it's a cheap single wall rim with next to none stiffness, the spokes I really hope were not original, so some of them may be different length then. Or protrude out of the nipple😁
Also, 27 inch rim is ETRTO 630, don't know how they could cut out 25mm and get 622
@@feedbackzaloop I assume he meant 27,5 (584 mm rim) and not 27. I have never seen a mtb tire for a 630mm rim, this is an obsolete road bike rim size.
If you lace a normal wheel you have a spoke calculator, however I would like to know how he properly calculated the spoke lengths in this case 🤔
@@simonm1447 the numbers (25mm cut out = (630-622)*pi) and appearance tell it's 27, not 27,5.
With that small difference the calculator would suggest 1...2mm shorter spokes, what is honestly within tolerances, if you had them on a shorter side beforehand.
If some bikers are ignorant, that would be road, not mountain for sure.
Amigo se te va a quemar el casco allí atrás....
# caption contest, the face you make when your girlfriend is a twin and you get confused and have relations with her dad
TBH the whole sports comunity is ignorNt of the fact that nattow toebox shoes are bad for your feet, #BarefootMasterRace
Road bikers are ignorant full stop. Mountain bikers all speak to each other when we meet or at least acknowledge one another. We always thank other trail users for giving us a bit of space aswell You don't even get a nod from a roadie they're just weird. It's also apparent when you're driving. I always stop and let them pass when I see them coming towards me and you never get so much as a wave never mind a thank you off them. It must be something to do with all the carbon dioxide they inhale and the lycra.
Smiling and waving costs aero and watts
As always 3 mates having a good time - this time a great chin-wag. Lovin' the Dirt Show , btw talking trials, how is Martyn ? we miss him.
We should look at water polo (help in the rain) , Water Ski (riding in the wet) - no seriously I think a good mental open attitude and let the ideas come
