I love the quote at the start. "They may not be the prettiest, but they have stories to tell". It's not about the blingingest bike, it's about the one that took you places.
Hmm... This bike from H72... As a B72 myself, this quote rings as true ;-)
Imma start describing myself like this
@@platzoperson393 Now I want a B72001 tattoo...
The best bike is the one you have
only one minute into this series...and man, it's a banger of a start! Can't wait for more!
I love Tech Tuesdays, and Park Tool's other educational content.... I might cry when the day comes for Calvin to retire!
This was great! Looking forward to the rest of the post-mortem.
Thanks! Much more to come....
I don’t think it’s dead yet …
@@parktool do you have any videos about asymmetrical crank arms? I have recently installed a Shimano crankset and even if I install it properly the driveside crankarm sits 3mm further from the central line of the frame compared to the non-driveside.
Lugged steel bikes have a good strong following these days ... people interested in buying, riding, restoring them, so this is a good video. And for a manufacturer of bike products it is beneficial as well. I know I started buying tools, cleaners, lube after picking up a vintage steel bike. :)
Ahhh I thought there was a new video but now I have to wait till TUESDAY?!?
Loved my first 70’s racing bikes. Tubulars were a sew up pain, but ride feel was exquisite. Lots of silver components makes a pretty build on a chrome lug, stay, frameset.
love the videos enjoying the mentality of a mechanic
Calvin best bike CZcamsr.
This is such comfortable viewing, thanks guys!
I still have some freewheel blocks from back in my younger days. A 6 speed 13-18 Sun Tour, a 7 speed 12-18 Sachs, and a 7 speed 12-19 Dura Ace.
I even have one of those Sachs hubs, that I built into a race wheel (tubular, or course), that were made for 8 speed freewheels (12-21)
You da man, man. Thank you.😊
Thank you for these videos. I worked in bike shops off and on from the mid-70's until recently.
LOVE THAT Calvin!! Thank you!! You gave me memories of my first bike a 1976 Raleigh 'Super Tourer', (bought in '82 ridden till '86), Reynolds 531, i bought a Campy groupo for it, had training and racing wheels for it. Lots of 'clamp-on'. I took the frame to Colin Laing (at that time in Tucson? I think) and he brazed some stuff and painted for me. Had a leather Ideale saddle soooooo comfy!!.
What a legend this man is
Verry cool! Brilliant to see these old parts, they look much more durable than modern parts!
Interesting, informative and enjoyable. All the best.😊
It reminds me of my childhood. Thanks Shimano Dual Lever
Wow I hadnt seen a video with talking legend Calvin Jones in ages!
Worthy of an epic, tough action movie.
And adventure cycling is just like that. I'm Italian but wish I was a sort of American James Bond and that Mr Jones was the tech guy, telling you how to use the most incredible technical gadgets.
Or a coach like Rocky's.
No non-sense, just getting your a** in gear, yeah.
But in reality, it's stuff even more serious than that. Right on! 💪💪
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode, thank you!
this is so fascinating, really resonates with my obsession for older bikes!
Definitely getting some Mr Rogers Neighborhood vibes from the opening!
Great episode #1 of what I hope will be a long series of videos! :)
That's the plan!
Evans on that!
Wow, I found the anti GCN! Thank you!
Add forensics to calvins toolbox, he'd have made a great detective. Inspector Jones!
Nice story
Crank marks are def from front derailleur cable
Let’s goo!! 🚴 💨 💨 💨
Buen dato
Back in the day, the 45 sm ring & 14 to 23 or 24t freewheel were the mtn climbing gears. Those big ol 14 x 28 touring freewheels were way too heavy to be on any true racer boy/girl's rear wheel.
PS When you are ready to down size, I'd be glad to haul the whole load away for you Calvin 😉
I have a 1988 Cannondale Criterium 60cm that i'd love to tear down and rebuild with all new bearing!!
it is not tortured, teeth on gears are in good shape, soldered frames have life span, my survived 40-42000km and then breaks lower tube behind lover head set bearing
I have a question, does the shimano deore rd m592 derailleur have a better working culture than the Alivio m3100 2x9?
Sweet
Bonjour Calvin , connaissez vous les vélos Colnago ? 😊
My bike has a gag order and is restricted from telling any stories.
Weren't Cinelli bars always measured outside to outside?
Nope…ctr-ctr
My girlfriend has a 1989 Schwinn Caliente in ok condition. Her mom gave it to her and she doesn't want to get a new bike 🤦🏻♂.
I’m about as avid of a bicyclist 🚴♀️, as to the number of parts on your workbench. My favorite 😍 is the mountain 🏔️ bike 🚴, because you can go more places (and less bent rims). I’ve almost 😅 NEVER 👎 bent a rim on my mountain 🏔️ bike 🚴 trips, except if the bike 🚴 was ultimately cheap in quality, or I’ve accidentally contacted the wheel 🛞 with my foot 🦶, catching a spoke, and jamming the wheel 🛞 to a stop 🛑, or the wheels 🛞 are old and fatigued. Your friend, Jeff.
A nonsense video, prefer the instructional videos.
Campy on a …. Schwinn?
