IMPORTANT tip and he mentions this at 5:04, don't skip this if you don't watch the entire video and just watch the start. Make sure you unwind the extraction internal bit right out before inserting the external thread into the crank arm. If you don't (and I've done this years ago, and felt like a fool!) you put the tool in but its only PARTIALLY in, the internal component is stopping it threading right in. If you don't you can then put a lot of pressure on partially engaged threads and damage/strip it.

Great Video! BUT, additional chain llnks may be needed depending on the length of the rear derailleur jockey wheel cage. Mine is a Shimano 105 GS and requires 6 additional rivets worth of chain to be added rather than the 2 recommended in the video. I'm sure the latter works for a standard short cage rear derailleur. (This issue was probably addressed in an earlier comment.) Thanks again for your great DIY videos.

I have a Trek 4300 the existing tires are 26"x2" most of the tires I am finding to replacement are 26"x1.95" or 26x2.10, 26x2.124, 26x2.5 - the question is how critical is the difference between the 1.95 - 2.5 if the rim says 2"? this is a mountain bike by the way

My Shimano 2 trigger style has larger thumb triggers than pointer finger triggers. I wish I could reduce the deadzone freeplay in the thumb trigger. Is this possible? Bike is a 27.5 Diamondback Expresso in Canada. Shifter appears to be shimano ST-EF500-4 which says on it "v-brake" but the bike is discs.

Needed this just to make sure it was right hand threaded. The free wheel was seized on with rust, a bash with a hammer got it unstuck.

An expesive wheel has tight spokes. A cheap wheel has not so tight spokes. That is why an expensive wheel has a long life. And the opposite with a cheap wheel. Conclusion: It is NOT the pretension of the spoke that will cause a spoke to fracture. It is the LACK of pretension that will cause a spoke to fracture. = fatique fracture. I am a machine engineer, and this lesson is a part of my study. When you design bolted connections you must verify that the bolts will NEVER break. Where is this critical ? A prime example is the bolted connection of the big bearing of a connecting rod in an ice engine. Those bolts are able to last the lifetime of an engine, without ever breaking.

this has not helped. no mention of tightest on the cable when install. which derailer do you start with, both need adjusting. so start with front, but rear isnt adjust, how do yiu which geARS FOR EITHER WHEN ASKED TO IN THIS OLD MISS INFOEMED VID. What do you do if the drive side crank won't come off? The spindle won't move at all.

WHICH ONE YOU START FIRST, THE REAR DERAILER OR THE FRONT??? BOTH NEED ATTENTION AND NOTHING IS SHIFTING CORRECTLY

I literally follow this EXACT steps, and the right side (crank side) brake lever is ALWAYS too tight. The centering thing does not work at all for me. It literally does nothing. The left side can be loose, it will still be too tight on the drive side. If I tighten the centering screws, it moves barely a mm. I've tried multiple different cable length and still no cigar.
