My first Redblock was a '86 740 with the carburated 2.3 engine, after that I had a handful of injected 7s and 9s (and now a '97 HPT), but of all these cars that one with the Pierburg carburettor easily was the nicest, smoothest running and very torquey, in second gear it had a kick not unlike a turbo, despite the horrendous fuel consumption I will always remember that one as my favourite brick from Sweden.
I still have mine its a '90 model 740gle 2.3 non turbo...bought it in 97. Didn't mod it in any way, still keeps up with modern traffic. Recently bought a 2.0 740se wagon which I will turbo swap and lower etc.. etc. Gets so many heads to turn even in its current "survivor" condition 😅
Love the euro model headlights on usa spec car, im from Europe too and many people like the usa front here but i like euro front end not just because of the looks but because it has alot better light output.
Great video bro I have a Volvo 850 glt 1995. It will be with me for life Got it from my neighbor Has a lot of history even survived a Forrest fire Great cars Volvo
The ZF trans was available in these cars up until 1986 I believe. It’s a true four speed with a lock up torque converter. The aw71 was used later in 7,9, and 2 series Volvos. It’s a 3 speed with an electronic overdrive.
0:42 looks like a b230f, it says on that label but can't see it from here. Might be an fb? They didn't put em in the 740 but it can be swapped... 116hp. too bad it's an auto :( And i thought heated seats was standard? Maybe only in europe, idk. Super sick that he actually put the EU front on it. Everybody over here wants US front ends :p I do like the huge headlights tho, awesome high beam. Heads up for all non volvo folks, putting coilovers on an old volvos require quite a bit of cutting and welding. 95% of all who lowers just chop the springs.
looks really skety he says its an 1985 but it got the newer tailligits and newer enigen probliy is a 1990 or newer. it has been modifed by a few owners
@@meatballs9127 USA had b230f before europe, because of california regulation. He also don't have the fittings for an ABS module, so the body is 1986 or prior. 90's lights can be fitted with a bit of modification. No one sells new 80's blocky headlights, as far as im aware of. The front end is 80's, it's a lot of work to fit a 80's front to a 90's car. He also got the old emblems on the trunk.
Um.... This maybe a silly question.. But what do you have to do to the struts to be able to fit 225/45R17 on the front?? They fit on the rear.. But. Negative on the front..
Have a 1985 Volvo 740. Many reasons to have and keep one. A great ride and decent gas mileage. Dad purchased the car new.
This would look killer with the usa front end headlights, but I understand that its cooler to have a euro front end in the usa since its rare.
Love it. 740's rule all

Angelo is a part of my volvo group, so I'm well aware of the build. Came here to support your channel.

They made these cars with ZF automatic transmissions. I own two of them, both have the ZF plate visible on the transmission.
