  • With the price of the G9 bring so close to the G90 here in the UK as I'm sure in the Rest of Europe and further, if you are new to the camera world and want to get into video first, photography second, which camera gives you the best features for your film making needs!
    note: these are just my observations and thoughts based on other reviewers and specs I've researched, this is not gospel and both cameras are great and you will get great results with both 😊
    Thanks for watching!

    This was perfect. I was considering getting the G9 over the G95 - now I'm not, so that saves some money. However, you said there are better 1080 options out there. (I will probably shoot most stuff at 1080, with some stuff at 4k so I can crop it.) What are those better 1080 options? My mate has the G85. They're on special at the moment... should I get that instead? Thanks in advance, Campbell from New Zealand.

    I've thought about the G90. I do own and use a G9. I don't shoot anywhere near 30 minutes, and if I did, I would use my 1080HD camcorder since 4K would be out of the question for editing.
    Which brings me to comparing G80/85 to the G90/95. Is the additional cost worth it for a back up camera.

    • @Techkhamun

      I use the g80/g85 and I think depending on price it might be a good option as a second camera as your g9 covers most of the G90 specs, plus a great commenter mentioned you can unlock the g9s record limit so for the future if you do need it, you have the option!

I have de g95 and it is possible to shoot 120frames but when I import the footage into my editing software it is 30frames automatically. I´ve took a look into the settings and it´s set on highspeed mode 120fps bur apparently it´s also set on fhd 30 fps at the same time and you can´t change this setting to 24fps. I wanted to edit the framerate from 120fps in post but this is not possible when it´s automatically set and imported as 30 fps. Can somebody help me out here?

    @Techkhamun I think you forgot to mention that the G9 has no 4K crop whereas the G90 has a much larger 2.26 4K crop. The G9 doesn't have many advantages but one of it's advantages versus the G90 is that it doesn't crop in 4K.

      4k crop doesn't matter at all. In filming, the G90 4K crop is an advantage for med to tight close ups. As for the 10bit 422, with the Ninja you can record 8bit 422 which is good enough for post. As for the G9's weakness is the 10 stop dynamic range for stills and lower at higher iSO... G90/95 IS WAY BETTER @12stops all around! as it includes vlogL and Live Composite View.

    I agreed with the comments here that most of us will not be affected by the recording limit but here is a scenario I am going to face where it matter. With no crew to my disposal, I can leave the camera recording the entire event (a prize giving ceremony with some talent shows) and I am free to move around taking stills and B-rolls. No record time limit means I can just leave one camera on a tripod without needing to ever touch it and freely move around with a second camera. So thanks for the video. I am sure there are plenty of videos comparing G95 to GH5 so I am glad you did this instead.

    Very helpful discussion. I'd say from a video/filmmaker viewpoint, the best comparison/rival would be the GH5, not the G9. The G9 is more aimed more for the photographer, not the videographer. I bought the G9 as a camera that will be mainly used for stills but can produce decent video when I need it. Had I been more of a videographer, I would have gone with the GH5. I think it's great to know you like the G95. I also have the G85 and will stick with it. Hopefully, Panasonic will work on its video autofocus which is lagging behind its competitors.

    1. Panasonic promotes the G9 as a camera designed for stills that has video capabilities. I think the G95 is an all around camera like the G85. If you want to compare the G95 with Panasonic's flagship video camera that would be the GH5.
    2. The "time limit" of the G9 can be easily overcome with a hack that is readily available online. The limit exists because of a law (tariff) in Europe. In some cases Panasonic has made 2 cameras 1 for US and another for Euro, eg. G80/G85 ....G80 has time limits. US model G85 has no time limits. I don't know if that applies to the G90/G95.
    3. The fact that the G9 does not do 1080P at 24fps is easily overcome if you are uploading your videos. I typically make videos on my G9 at 4K 24fps and then upload them at 1080P to get a sharper video.
    4. I could go on, but my real issue with your video is the the fact that you are making an argument rather than explaining the differences between the G9 and G90/G95. I own a G9 and love it. I will probably also get a G95. I don't see Panasonic replacing one with the other.

    • @Techkhamun
      @Techkhamun  Před 5 lety +5

      Great points!! Point number one, I completely get that, and these cameras were never designed to be compared but I did it anyway as I did get a comment on my last video and I thought it would be interesting myself, plus for those new into the camera game, people will be comparing the two due to price so I wanted to put my opinion on which to get if you are looking at video. It's not designed to compete but people will compare the two for sure! Your second point is to do with a hack, I'm not sure Panasonic would still keep the warranty if someone hacked it (also what if you don't want to hack your brand new camera) plus I'm talking about it as I do live in the UK, US viewers this point is irrelevant, I should have mentioned that in my video 🙈🙈 Point three you are talking about recording 4k 24p and uploading in 1080p but my point with that comment is for those who don't want extra rendering times for time sensitive projects this isn't an option is there? Let me know if there is by the way, love to hear it 😊. Your last point, I think it sounds like I hate the g9 🙈 I promise I dont, you are right it's awesome I have used it as friends have got it, I just wanted to help those who had about £1000 and didn't know which to choose for video that doesn't know much about cameras. I probably should have been fairer and I'm sorry for that, I'm still learning please don't hate 😂🙈 thanks for your awesome comment 😊

    • @artjohnson01
      @artjohnson01 Před 5 lety +4

      @@TechkhamunThanks for the reply. As far as the "hack" is concerned, it's important to remember that the time limit is imposed only because of a European law which I think has now been changed. AND the hack is fully supported since all it entails is putting the camera into the "service mode". Nothing illegal or underhanded about that since it is a procedure that Panasonic prescribes for camera repairs. This procedure is available online and it has not been taken down or otherwise blocked.
