  • I review the Panasonic G90 compact system camera and compare it to the Panasonic G9. Is this camera still a good buy in 2020?

    Thanks for your helpful, informative video. Torn between the G9 and G90, but the compact size is the major plus.

    Hi Bob, very enjoyable.
    Could you show more example photos with the cameras you review and not rush through them so quickly.
    It's helpful to determine which camera to choose for prospective buyers.
    Great work.

    It coasts now in Sweden at Elgiganten store under Single day 11.11.2020 just 6490 kronors. It is about 600 euros.

    This evaluation is convincing and has led me to order a G90. It should replace the very nice GX80 and bring the wonderful Lumix lenses plus Laowa 7.5 mm to new life. Thanks for this video!

    Great review. Just had one question, how did you find the off/on switch for responsiveness? I found the G80 had a pretty stiff off/on switch, which I wasn't so keen on, so I just wondered if you found the switch on the G90 to be ok and not too stiff and unresponsive? Sorry if that sounds like a daft question lol but just thought I'd ask.

    Excellent video. I need your advice please: I currently own the Nikon D5600 and I want to upgrade to a good hybrid mirrorless camera. I want IBIS, flippy screen, wonderful video and photo quality with good auto focus. I love the video coming out of the GH5/G9 but I prefer the size of the G90. Furthermore I think I will shoot most video in 1080p as I find 4K files too large and difficult to work with. I have in desperation also considered the Sony A7 III with the 24-105 kit lens(Great deals right now). Drawback with the Sony is heavy camera/lenses, expensive, no touch and flippy screen. But it offers best in class AF, low light performance and picture quality and blurry background.
    I am also considering the Fuji XT-4 but I find it a bit expensive for what it offers(when available). What are your thoughts? Do you think I will be happy with the G90? Thanks a lot.
    And a side question as well: why is everyone talking about 4K? Is it really worth the hassle on CZcams where most people watch in 1080p anyway(yes-downsampled it looks slightly better...but will average joe really be able to tell the difference?) More important is good colors/exposure, great sound, sharp AF, not shaky in my opinion.

      The G90 is an excellent all round camera. The video features are excellent for a camera at this price point, with un-limited record time, V-LOG L and various bit rates etc. It is a good stills camera but its worth remembering it has a micro four thirds sensor so high ISOs will suffer. It does have 5 axis image stabilization though which I have found amazing in both video and stills.

      DP ie I think G90 is a good bargain now. It comes at £699.- with 12-60 standard lens. Don’t bother with the G80. I had it and I shoot primarily jpeg and its image quality is utterly rubbish. Olympus 16mp jpeg engine is so much better. I thought between the e-m5 mark II (I regret a bit selling it) and the pana gx9 which I just ordered. I like compact form factor with the new 20mp sensor. Olympus is better image wise, Panasonic is better controls wise. Or, I’d rather move to the Fuji x-t20/30. Excellent image quality, bargain prices.

    Dear Bob, would this still be a valid camera in 2024. I am thinking about buying one with the 14-140 as a lightwheight modern alternative to my Nikon D300s. Or would it be better to buy the OM 5?

    I already have a G9 but since the prices have come down dramatically on the G95 with the 12-60 kit lens I am going to get a G95 as well.
    Thanks for the review. very informative.

    How does the Canon m6 mk2 image quality compare with the g90?

    • @AvpStudios
      @AvpStudios  Před 4 lety

      I think the image from the G90 may be better if you use manual focus! AF with the G90 is OK but the Canon is amazing so I use the Canon a lot simply because of this.

    What's the 4K quality like compared to the Sony ZV1 or Sony a6400 thanks

    • @AvpStudios
      @AvpStudios  Před 4 lety +1

      It depends on many factors, it is not 'better' than the Sonys, I have not tested it under so many different scenarios but overall I would say its as good, but the AF, under certain conditions does hunt, the Sonys are rock solid. Low light is better on the a6400, followed by the G90 than the ZV1 which is to be expected due to sensor size difference.

    You're correct in that you waffle on and on though still enjoy your channel. Perhaps you should set a target to get to the point much quicker in future reviews. Anyhow your tittle says " Is it still worth buying in 2020?" but in the end you didn't answer your own question.

      The G90 & G95 are the same camera. Panasonic in their wisdom have given it different names in different territories, makes it very confusing.

    This camera seems to be very good for images but has issues with video. A heavy crop on 4K and poor auto focus when vlogging. It was launched in 2019 but John Lewis are now offering a £300 price reduction. Is this fair comment?

    • @AvpStudios
      @AvpStudios  Před 4 lety

      I would agree, the AF is OK but not up where Sony and Canon are, but for stills its very fast, accurate and snappy.
