    Congrats on the 100k and on the speedy recovery. Crazy what you just did with very suboptimal training, hats off. I'm in the middle of the training block for my first marathon. I've ran last weekend my first longer long run on pavement instead of forest to see how it goes on hard surface and out for a week now with swollen ankle and it was only 28k.

    Hi Göran! Love what you do! I am in the same profession as you are and this video really made me think. Patients come to the clinic and we give advice to modify training load, focus on recovery and do some exersice or whatever. For us its just another patient, but hearing that they cant continue or that they need to take breaks could be devistating to the patient, mentally. The look on your face when you said "...this is the last run in a while", and the joy after you did your lap pain free. Physical activity is so important and you are amazing at showing the ups, downs and to inspirie your audience. Thank you :)

    Was almost afraid you would give up your running streak. :) both you and me know that it can take a week or to to recover and those short slow easy runs do help (for most things....) i just did Kia fjällmarathon 100k the other day. Took 4 days before my ancle and hip stopped aching and a week later I can run properly. I'm not fully back of course but still :) keep running!! Fellow swede ultra runner here

    • @LilSimen
      @LilSimen Před 10 měsíci

      Great work! Just need to think out loud for a second.. I guess the short and easy runs help blood flow and off course the mentality of the runner. But how far do you run the first days? I would guess like a 10-15 min run would do for the first day? Just enough to get the body warm and blood flowing?

    • @DIYTechRepairs
      @DIYTechRepairs Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@LilSimen my minimum is 2k each day. My slowest 2k after 20h+race before was around 17 minutes :) and the the day after ghat often 14 min and so forth. With that don't run with an injury that will get worse. It's a judgment call but for me it's worth just moving my legs and body. I have been lucky since starting my run streak and actually listening to my body I have been free from injuries that have prevented me from running. Sore yes for sure. Hip knees yes everything. But nothing dramatic

RICE (Rest Ice Compression Elevation) is basic treatment for any joint injury and might assist with supporting the joint while you continue light exercise.

    7:30 Yep, a lot of recommendations on rest aren't really backed by science. This same thing used to happen with people recovering from heart attacks. They'd suggest bed rest for a few weeks which often ended up causing even more problems.

    • @Kelly_Ben
      @Kelly_Ben Před 7 měsíci

      So right. I had a minor heart attack a few years ago. Thanks to covid, further testing took 5 weeks, and my first appt with my cardiologist took another 2 months. (In America) I obviously stopped running until my stress test, but had to continue with my daily farm work, no choice there. By the time my stress test came, my heart damage had completely healed, and they couldn't believe how fit I was. I went back to zone 2 only training, and ran a half marathon 2 days before my cardio appt, where he cleared me to continue my ultra running. (Thankfully I'm not that interested in pushing speed anymore! 😂)

  • @porterjeronimo2984
    @porterjeronimo2984 Před 10 měsíci +4

    The best way to repair an injured knee is by bicycle or by slow jogging. Even if the pain is 8/10. In this way, you remove blood clots and thanks to the movement, the knee cleans up faster and
    heals. Doctors usually recommend rest and lying down. But then the injury turns into a chronic disease.

    • @seedmole
      @seedmole Před 10 měsíci +1

      Big +1 to active rest. Waiting around for it to "feel good enough" can lead to months of inactivity, which can cause further problems, in addition to not even providing the conditions needed to heal the main issue.

  • @Enoch-Root
    @Enoch-Root Před 9 měsíci

    What kind of stuff and how much are you eating to run that kind of distance? I've done a few solo 25k and 30k runs, but that's not even a marathon. At the time I was still trying to burn excess fat, so I wasn't eating a large amount before setting off. Since losing weight I've found that doing large amounts of exercise like that leaves me really low in energy if I have only had a light breakfast or lunch, feel like sleeping.
    Also got runners toenails in addition to other injuries, the toenails look the worst, but wrre the least of the problems I had.

    • @Kelly_Ben
      @Kelly_Ben Před 7 měsíci

      I've discovered through training/ racing which pain means stop, and which pain is just my brain trying to convince me to stop. I often get horrific knee pain towards the end of marathons/50ks, but I now know it'll stop almost immediately at the end of the race, no injuries or lasting pain! I think personal experience can be the best guide on when to push and when to stop.
