Here's an outline of the talk, along with my notes and some quotes I found interesting.
How has Canada contributed to your worldview? (6:30)
    Dr. Peteron's wife, Tammy (13:52)
How do you sustain a long-term relationship? (16:25)
    - Find each other attractive.
    - You want someone you can spar with.
    - Interestingly different from you, but not so different that you that you can't communicate.
    - You want a little bit of trouble, mystery, combativeness, the ability to exchange opinions forthrightly.
    - Trust. Tell each other the truth. Be able to negotiate with the other person.
    - Make time for each other. Do not expect (all) romantic interactions to be spontaneous. Make sure you spend at least some 90 mins a week intentionally together.

    Peterson's diverse following. (26:15)
    Combative interviews, e.g. GQ (27:30)
    Difference between the sexes (33:00)
-Interests in general - Women: people. Men: things. There's more men in women dominated industries.
    Chaos/Feminine and Order/Masculine (39:35)
"Chaos is the domain that you don't understand, and that emerges unpredictably but also the domain from which new forms emerge, because it's from novelty that the new emerges. And I think the fundamental association between femininity and chaos is the association between what's unexpected and novel and what's new, because new forms emerge from chaos." - Peterson
"You're looking constantly to find the balance between those two [order and chaos]. For example, formally speaking, the domain of order is that place that you are when what you're doing is producing the results that you want to have produced." -Peterson
"Nature is (fundamental definition): that which selects." Females are the force of nature that selects.
    Scandinavia (50:50)
Equality of outcome (often coded as equity): at every level of every occupation people have to be represented by the same number that they're represented at the population
Dating, abortion, sexual behavior, the birth control pill (53:00)
"I think that the idea that sex is casual and that it's a form of entertainment is an absolutely preposterous idea; I think that it's psychologically shallow beyond belief to hold that as a core proposition" - Peterson
    - Repetitive sex with multiple partners forces you to treat people as if they're interchangeable
    - It implies that you can divorce sexuality from play, desire from a relationship, love, emotional fragility, family, responsibility
Check "A Billion Wicked Thoughts" - book written by Google engineers.
    Parenting (1:16:00)
"Your fundamental job as a parent is to ensure that by the time your child is 4 years old that they are maximally desirable to other children and to adults." - Peterson

      Small correction:
JBP keeps saying that each person has twice as many female as male ancestors. That's false.
E.g., say there are 5 women who give birth to 2 children each, and all 10 children share the same father. None of the children have 5 times as many moms than dads; each of them has exactly 2 parents.
Fewer males contribute to the gene pool, but each individual still has equally *many* male ancestors as female ones. It's just that males are shared between more offspring.
(There can be an overlap in case of incest where someone's parent is also their grandparent, but surely that's extremely rare, and can even work both ways.)

A very good explanation of Peterson's (And Camille Paglia's) observation of ancient female symbology as nature or chaos, I heard Paglia say it first back in the 90s but Peterson's hierarchy ideas seem to bring the both clearer, AND at the same time make us seem that much more human. We're a balance between chaos and order. And I mean human as a species that comes from and still is part of the eco-system we evolved in.

    • @t3hsourcey
      @t3hsourcey Před 5 lety +3

I used to think that a woman is associated with chaos because she's the party that brings life to our world. I didn't associate it with natural selection, which is more indirectly connected.
But then you have an interesting dynamic with the child involved. The feminine maternal aspect brings them order, sheltering them from the chaos, while the masculine paternal role calls out the Heroic aspect to challenge the chaos.

My point is we're a product of our environment.

@@nelsonhernandez3259 Actually their two ideas flow very well to one another. Paglia's first book looked at art and sexuality down through time, the mystery of birth, ovulation cycles, lunar cycles PMS, made women seem mysterious and more a part of nature than the men trying to conquer nature. Paglia's book tracked art from prehistoric times forward, and elucidated on her ideas on the balance between men's struggle with nature. Peterson's hierarchies, natural occuring sorting between members of a group or tribe struggling for survival make far more logical sense than anything Athropology has yet theorized.

It's the equivalent of women-led brunch pep talk. It looks (at least for men) boring and superfluous. What you 'feel' different is the female-led focus on a conversation : simple, dynamic, ever-changing and empathy-driven, not hyperfocused or intellectually driven. It's more social rather than formal.

I just want to throw it out there, why does everyone use the word diversity as though it is a universally accepted positive concept? I've been told it is since I was young but no one has ever made the case that it is more positive than negative in a successful manner to me.

    • @varthaner4617

It's incomprehensible "lefty logic" - it only makes sense if you religiously believe logic is a tool of oppressive tyrranical patriarchy and good people should shun it.
But basic justification is that USA is ethnically diverse, and it's #1 country. Just this, nothing else. No reflection given to either other reasons that might explain US, or situation of other countries that are shitholes because they are diverse. Simply a logic fallacy.
Actually, it just might be #1 argument in history in category of encompassing multiple logic fallacies,

    • @DieFlabbergast
      @DieFlabbergast Před 5 lety +4

Let's be fair to the left. They use "diversity" as a shorthand for "fairness," which we can all agree is a good thing. Problem is, they then treat "fairness" as if it were identical to "equality of outcome." This is not only impossible, but also undesirable. We can all agree that any organisation - a university or a large corporation - ought to have _some_ representatives of each minority or "section" of the population (women are _not_ a minority, except in the boardroom and the science lab): if there are none, that would smell suspiciously like discrimination. But to demand that each minority be represented in the same proportion as in the population at large is simply illogical, for a large number of reasons, most of which Dr. Peterson has pointed out on innumerable occasions. But the lefties just don't listen. I'll leave you to work out why.

I was referring to the fact that P.J. is a target to a lot of people and C.H. also been the target of some harassment (some found on youtube during debates or speeches), and still they to go out and fight (through open discourse and dialog) for sanity and expose to all the lunacy of some people /organizations of questionable ideas and dangerous ideology. Here I was more respectful with C.H. because she is going in again and makes herself a target for harassment after some heat has died down to some degree. And indeed the interview was "masterbatory for the both of them" but I hope I made my previous statement more clear above.
