    One aspect that I noticed in Dirt Rally 1 compared to the second one is the damage models used to be more pronounced. you can clearly see in 2.0 they toned down the deformation of the cars, body parts are less loose with that little scrappes on chassi. it feels like the damage model from GRID 2019 which is very dissapointing.

      Also Dirt rally 1.0 has better VR and graphics on stages just compare Greece for example.

    that ripped of wheel in dirt 1, why they didn't do it in dirt 2.0, such a nice feature

    I have been playing rally game since Colin McRae Rally 2004. Being an irresponsible and immature teenager back then I remember having fun just trying to wreck every corner of the car like I was playing the street fighter special stage. Then life got busy until I re-pick up rally game since Dirt Rally 2.0, I also played some of the WRC game after and now EA WRC. Despite all the new graphic eye candy I always felt something was missing but was not sure what it was until I saw the damage model in Dirt Rally 1 in this video. Bumpers flying, doors dangling, and trunk lid popping... yup that was the damage model I grow up with in rally game, shame they don't do it like that anymore.

    4:09 a great detail I just noticed: in WRC Generations the wheel is firstly deflated after a puncture and then rips apart. This is not the case in DiRT where the wheel just dissapears with some particle effects.

    Going to RBR(rallysimfans) as someone who played more BeamNG and Dirt Rally, the mechanical damage and the driving physics are very realistic in RBR these days but the physical damage model really does show its age lol, when you collide with some things in RBR it can almost feel like you're kicking an aluminum can around, though the Dirt Rally games may not have as good of a driving simulation nor mechanical damage model, the weight of the cars and the impact when colliding or rolling is very believable. BeamNG is just in it's own league, but the amount of content and support for RBR just makes it so great, really impressive what the community has done with a 20 year old game.

  • @L0CALDRUGMAN
    @L0CALDRUGMAN Před rokem +1

    i dont think crash physics are even important on sim games... nobody cares about the damage, physics are most important. atleast for me. would be cool to have sim with both features tho like beamng

    • @daddynolegs
      @daddynolegs Před rokem +17

      You might be right for regular racing Sims, but good damage physics is really important in rally. Bumps and clipping corners and shit happens all the time in rally, and the effect it has on the car is very real. Also, not having realistic damage means that safe driving strategies are punished, while stupid all our driving is heavily rewarded. Maybe full body deformation a la beam.ng isn't necessary, but consequences need to exist for risky driving. In dirt rally, I can happily drive through a thin and windy road going 70 mph, because I know with pretty high confidence that even if I crash, if it's not head on I'll survive to make it to the next stage (doubly so if I'm coming up on a section I can repair). If I do that in rbr, I'm risking retiring from the entire rally.

    • @ItsJakeTheBrake
      @ItsJakeTheBrake Před rokem +7

      They are very important. Without proper damage simulation, crashes have no consequences. Having damage punishes you for careless driving. Dive bomb into a corner and clip your opponent? Well now your aero is fucked and you're going to lose at least half a second per lap. Jump over the curbs at Zolder too hard...your suspension gets wrecked and you're out of the race. Without a good damage model, it doesn't matter how good the physics are, races will be arcade(y)

    • @L0CALDRUGMAN
      @L0CALDRUGMAN Před rokem

      @@ItsJakeTheBrake agree but i dont really mean damage physics i mean crash physics. like it doestn really matter how broken the car looks because damage model is ok in my opinion

    • @kayanhaider50
      @kayanhaider50 Před rokem +4

      Imo racing got pretty boring without risk. A sim where ur scared for ur life seems sm more exciting. Sims can’t be forgiving and without the visuals of crashes some may even be confused as to why they can’t drive properly. Beamng is easily my favourite game atm. Races feel sm scarier and it makes me a less aggressive driver. Unlike gt7 or ac(c) where I can drive super aggressively with almost no consequences

    • @kak8895
      @kak8895 Před rokem +2

      @@kayanhaider50 100%. GT7 and Assetto Corsa doesn't bring consequences were you overheat/overrev the engine, grind gears, valve damage, radiator damage that impacts physics, engines that stall, alignments that get displaced, axles that break, drive shafts that break and the list goes on and on. BeamNG to me it the most realistic rally game right now even without pace notes. In the future when they apply proper terrain deformation for snow, mud, gravel, sand and rocks. It'll be the most complete rally/off-road game.
