I think all the stuff involving LOG (platformers being outdated, cars and sports games being the new trend) was basically Rare giving the impression that this isn’t the game they wanted to make, but they weren’t given a choice because of corporate meddling.
Michael Moretti Not for me it isn’t. I’m usually one of the first to die in an FPS or Battle Royale because I suck at multitasking. I mostly prefer to spend hours consumed in a good RPG or sim game. 😅

Also, LoG was proven to be totally wrong. Super Mario Odyssey proved that the masses of today love a good collectathon. I guess a certain Italian gentleman really returned the favor this time. If LoG returns in the next Banjo-Kazooie game (if there ever is one), I want him to admit he was wrong.

If Banjo-Threeie does come out and not continue after Nuts and Bolts, then that means LoG was SO defeated by his business views, he literally de-canonized himself and his timeline which in turn, not only says he is admitting he was VERY wrong but also that he was useless as a whole to the universe

Fun fact: there used to be a banjo "remake" in development where the characters slowly became aware that they are in a remake thus changing the events of the game. For example the termite queen coming out of the hill and Conga defeating her. It sadly got canceled. Guess which game it turned into. Btw it was called "Banjo X"

All would literally be forgiven if at the end of the game: Log ACTUALLY gives you the old moves and you can fool around the game with the old moveset.

From what I've heard, it's pretty hard to mess with the files of nuts and bolts. People can't even extract the game's model of banjo yet

This was actually the first Banjo Kazooie game I've ever played, I didn't play the other two until I finished this. While it's by far the worst of the three, I still have a soft spot for Nuts and Bolts. Building cars is fun, the graphics still hold up pretty well, the music is great, collecting car parts in Showdown town is a lot of fun, and about half of the missions are reasonably fun (unfortunately the other half are pretty tedious, but most are optional so it's not the end of the world.)
Same here, I used to play this sometimes when I went to my uncle's house because his son (who's now joining the Canadian police force, good for him) had an Xbox 360 with the game. I mainly messed around in the first act of Nutty Acres.
Then I got Xbox Game Pass years later and actually played through the game via Rare Replay (which is included with Game Pass)... and yeah the game is actually kinda good in my opinion. I'm a bit biased because I really love sandbox games (with Disney Infinity 3.0 (specifically the gold edition on Steam since that version uses menus to select characters, Power Discs, and Play Sets/Toy Box Games instead of using a base and plastic with NFC tags embedded in them) actually being one of my top 3 favorite games), games with lots of vehicle-based missions (like The Simpsons: Hit & Run), and racing games in general, but still.
I don't even know if it's the worst out of the three. It's too different. I think it's like comparing apples to oranges
@@foursidekm For me, Banjo is very much about exploring, and Nuts and Bolts doesn't really encouraging exploring outside of the hub world. While I do like the game, I think the fact that most of the worlds are so empty is a pretty big problem. There's pretty much nothing to do in the worlds when you aren't doing missions. I think they should have hidden car parts through the open worlds to give more incentive to explore them.

I had grunty’s revenge on my gba and I’m super nostalgic for it. Was one of those “hey we are going on vacation let’s get you a new game to help occupy you in the car!” so I played it a ton over a 3-4 week period.
I was ready to have a meltdown expecting another "Nuts & Bolts is bad because it's not what I wanted" video. But thankfully, I'm kinda impressed it was the polar opposite of that.

Yooka-Laylee isn't a bad game. It's just not Banjo. It's like you're dog running away and your parents got you a new dog that looks just like your old dog. It's fine, but it's just not the same.
In what world is Yooka-Laylee not Banjo? The main problem with it is literally that it's so Banjo that they forgot they also had to innovate on their 20 years old gameplay and also give the game an identity of its own.
@poudink5791 That was my point. It is a Banjo-Kazooie game in everything but name and characters, but the soul isn't there. I go to the ice world, hear the music, and think, "This is nice. I kinda like it, but I want to play Freezeezy Peak." I go to the swamp level and think, "This is great, but I want Bubble Gloop Swamp." Even original levels like the casino I'm like, "I would rather play any other casino level. This is just too overwhelming." They didn't make anything better. It's the same but bigger and messier.
@@poudink5791No, the main problem with Yooka Laylee was that the levels were way too big and disjointed. What should have happened was that every expansion made a completely new area instead of expanding the existing world. It could have worked if the levels were much smaller, but have multiple areas to them, with maybe one or two big levels. It would have been good if they had a collectible tracker for the competition that you could get as a tonic. There was a lot of empty exploration without much payoff to it.
Finally, one of the major game reviewers online doing a proper review of Nuts & Bolts. No offense to JonTron, but it seems like he made a review based on the first two hours of gameplay and then stopped. Thank you for making this review, man :)

Honestly, AntDude is one of a few people to do proper reviews on games with different formulas. To be honest, I'm getting tired of the whole "Oh, it's different! Therefore it's bad!" argument. Sure, not all changes are good, but a different formula dosen't automatically makes the game bad.

I really think that the comparison to Federation Force near the begining of the video is very apt in this case. In my eyes people seem to treat this game as something on the level of Sonic 06 when this game was just attached to an IP that people wanted something else from. N&B wasnt really a glitchy mess or just a desaster to make, it was just reseption that made it this giant level of hated
Nuts and Bolts is an extremely underrated game in my opinion. It's a great collect-a-thon and a Banjo game through and through, just with cars as the main new gimmick. I really feel like Microsoft should remaster Banjo 1, 2 and nuts and bolts for Xbox Series X, the same way spyro and crash got their trilogy remasters, and then make a brand new Banjo Threeie that's a proper return to the platforming roots of the series. Seriously Microsoft doesn't realise the insane potential of this franchise. Banjo could be their Mario or Ratchet and Clank.

I do agree with what you said as I too think that Nuts & Bolts is extremely underrated and that it get's WAAAAY too much hate, if people would take off the hate shades for just 4 hours and gave this game a chance, they'd see that this game isn't THAT bad
I remember when this game came out I loved it. I played it hours on end. My favorite part of the game was the creation aspect and I spent hours as a kid just creating something new then testing it. Sad it has the reputation it does.

Lunar Jetman is the sequel to Jetpac, one of the most popular ZX Spectrum games. Atic Atac was also pretty darn popular at the time, and one of my favorite newly-discovered games on Rare Replay. Glad you had fun with Nuts & Bolts - it deserves much more praise.

It is very confusing. How does it get to that point? They have a 3D platformer that sold extremely well and people have been wanting a sequel for many years. So they decide to finally make a sequel and get everyone excited only to release a game that has nothing to do with the original. The game would have probably did alright if it was "Blinx the Cat Nuts & Bolts" It would be like if Nintendo announced they were making a new F-Zero game and then it ended up being a puzzle game.
@@HerecomestheCalavera Whoever was in charge probably thought the original concept was too retro or too niche at the time (or disliked/hated the originals)... I'm an indie dev, and I know people who don't see Tetris as a game because it's too simple (which really astounded me)... They only have eyes for AAA or trendy stuff... So yeah, people like that....
And in my opinion, there isn't a bigger death sentence for a franchise than putting in charge a producer/director who actually dislikes the franchise.
That or having a publisher that orders the devs to make a game that focuses on attracting fans of other franchises or genres (like EA or Activison sometimes do), neglecting the core audience, which may have happened in this case too I guess...
@@mikeluna2026 I recomend wath the video of "Wha happun" about Nuts n Bolts, nobody hated B-K, they wanted to push innovation at the expense of lossing the originals charm and mechanics,I would say that they did it but the cost was too big for the fanbase to accept it... Naaah, it's super bare bones, the world is a wasteland, some missions are the definition of tedious.
The mechanics are fine and the building is fun. Everything else really don't click as a cohese product. Every little thing pulls in different directions.

@@sirGuy1995 It is. It got WAY more hatred and vitriol than it deserved, It's a genuinely great game in my opinion. I think it did a great job living up to the legacy of Banjo while having enough unique elements to make it stand out on its own.

huntercrunch eh, the public opinion seems to be that the game itself is fine. It’s a good enough game by itself. BUT! They NEVER should have put the Banjo Kazooie IP on it. Why?! Why would they take a platformer IP, which had experienced an eight year drought, which TONS OF PEOPLE LOVED, and just... destroy its reputation? What made them think it was a good idea to make this game about Banjo? It was not, by any means, bad as a game. Can’t stress it enough. But it was not a Banjo Game. It was an entirely different game with a Banjo skin just slapped on there. Sure, it talked about the originals some. It made references. @@Aceshot-uu7yx There was a Banjo game in the works called Banjo vs Grunty, but it had to be canceled because Rare couldn't get the Grunty AI right. So Nuts and Bolts is Plan C. This is why Banjo ended, Rare completely run out of ideas.

Thanks for taking a look at this game for what it is, instead of taking a dump all over it for what it isn't, but still taking the time to explain why Nuts and Bolts was such a downer at the time it came out too.
Nuts and Bolts isn't a great game by any means, but I still really enjoyed all the wacky things I could do with the vehicle parts, I think you really nailed it with saying the game feels better when you treat more like a playground.
exactly, if you treat it more like a sandbox style playground game rather then as a Banjo collectathon your familiar with: you'll see that this game actually isnt all that terrible and it is underrated
My thoughts are the same as many. This could’ve been great if it had been a new IP instead of copy/pasting Banjo on it. See also Starfox Adventures.
Personally I think the core premise of Starfox Adventures as a third-person platformer/beat-em-up is okay, it just controls like ass and has a very unattractive art style. Fox himself looks okay, sleeveless jacket notwithstanding, but like everyone else looks weird when stood next to anyone else. The main enemy mooks especially are way too cartoony-proportioned next to everything else. Like the inverse of what AnimeFanatic says below: it'd be a good Starfox game if it was a good game in it's own right.
I honestly believe Starfox Adventures would have been fun with better controls and better and maybe smaller worlds.
But then half the game wouldn't even be there, because it's all banjo themed
I recall someone said the devs were some indie group that came up with the car related stuff. And while they had that sorted, they didn't really have the rest of the game. Microsoft found this tech demo, went "I Know, I got this useless thing", and slapped it on and shoved it out.

Good to see this game get some love. I never got caught up in the rage of it not being like the old games and just enjoyed it for what it is.
Man that’s two recent Diddy Kong Racing references. DKR is one of my all time favorite games and one that I feel is criminally underrated. No one seems to talk about it now a days. I really hope we get a full episode on it

@Gabriel Mota The decision of adding cars was made by the developers themselves and not by Microsoft. The developers behind Rare stated in multiple interviews that they had a lot of freedom regarding their games and that most projects failed due to poor managment, so stop spreading rumours of Microsoft being some kind of dictator.
I had way more fun than I ever thought I would with this game. As stupid as the whole idea seemed, it was actually really fun

i like trying to stack as many jiggies as possible and try balancing them all while avoiding the police because i couldnt be damned bribing the pig officer since id rather spend my well earned notes on wumba's shop. yes i believe boggy's gym is also worthless considering that 95% of the game is using vehicles to traverse through the worlds in the game which it allot more fun than walking especially making vehicles that should not work but works anyway. most of the grunty challenges suck to be honest. they are extremly easy, and on the logbox 720 one i used a plane instead of a boat and completely wrecked grunty. also the sticky ball is op in certain situations like in the metal mr patch if you use the sticky ball right you *OBLITERATE* him. and you get 2 in the game.

A racist opinion, but an opinion. The point is that any job you get hired at, literally one of the first things they tell you is that while hired, you represent the company you're working for. That being said, if yoj act out and people know where you work, that looks bad on the company for hiring you in the first place. They can fire you on the spot. Wow, the way you described working toward those T. T. trophies reminds me of what I loved about the day levels of Sonic Unleashed. Sure, they’re not hard (except Eggmanland, that’s hell), but getting those S ranks requires absolute perfection.
I really loved Nuts and bolts when i was younger, i never experienced the Originals until after playing this game.
This game honestly gave me YEARS of playtime
15:34 Seems to me like your problem could have been solved by using the sticky ball. Also, if you got at least 90 jiggys and beat Grunty in the terror level then you would get the horn upgrade, and therefore access to the super parts which would help you considerably.

I find it funny how Banjo Kazooie broke away from 3D platforming and everyone hated it and their Successor Yooka Layle does the same but people Love it. Probably 1. The circumstances behind Nuts and Bolts vs Impossible Lair and 2. Impossible Lair is Amazing and You should all play it if you haven't!
