@@YanntastischBestOfs that's because they usually forget why we bought the first few games to begin with, but others that do acknowledge it and repurpose it seem to do well, like the prime trilogy which people are still waiting for a 4th one on, pokemon dungeons, which still had you assembling a team of pokemon with rpg mechanics, pokemon ranger was less successful but that's because drawing circles quickly became staining, and do I need to point out halo wars and other games just outside Nintendo? Heck, paper Mario is actually an example of what I'm talking about, people didn't hate super paper Mario the second it was released, being more a resounding meh and not much talk, as it kept the story and unique characters, but then the others released with very different gameplay, no unique or very little unique characters, no rpg mechanics, and a dumbed down story, and everyone nuked it, even going back and praising the underappreciated super paper Mario. Oh, and then, Nintendo villainized half of the people who did buy origami king by saying any annoyance with there only being normal mario enemies and characters, like toads, means you're just a destructive jerk, and nothing more. So yeah, spin offs can get a bad reputation, but that's because we've been hit over the head repeatedly by companies not keeping what made fans join in the first place, and then spat in their face because they dare comment about anything remotely negative, all while some didn't try.

    • @TrueLucinova

I've thought that too, but sometimes I wonder if I, personally, would have liked it as much in that case... the writing and characters, as well as the multitude of references are party of why I like this game as much as I do
While I am a person who WANTED another platformer from Banjo-Kazooie, I also enjoyed this game a fair amount specifically because it WAS Banjo-Kazooie... so I think maybe, the perfect dream for myself would have been to see the series continue making platformers while also releasing this game
All that aside, I am glad to see this game getting some positive attention more recently... it's certainly fun in its own regards, just in an unfortunate circumstance overall

It would be worse without the Banjo IP, especially if it was a completely new set of characters. Most of the levels incorporate aspects of older Banjo games, as well as the soundtracks, and one of the great parts of the game is how they incorporate the characters into the levels. It would be bland without the Banjo name, plus even less people would've bought it

  • @mrspiffy8587

This game deserves more attention. No one ever gives it a chance just because it's a "Banjo Kazooie game." All the reviews and videos I've seen talking about it treat it like a proper adventure game, rather than a sandbox. The fun of this game doesn't come from simply beating the main plot, but from finding your own fun and unique ways to beat challenges. This game isn't meant to be a straightforward adventure. It's a sandbox to mess around with.
On top of that, it's really fun to try and recreate existing vehicles from pop culture such as the batmobile or the Halo Pelican. I recommend watching Grim and Grin, as he's made a ton of videos recreating other vehicles and playing with the game's mechanics and physics to find new ways of creating vehicles, such as using springs and tow bars to create a booster.

The characters are charming and funny, the game doesn't take itself too seriously, I think it looks gorgeous - I love the kind of quickly built aesthetic the stages have. This game would be far less notable if it weren't for the amount of flavour the Banjo world brings to it.

My favorite memories with Nuts and bolts was putting one block down, with 4 tow-bars in a "vertical square" (along the y-x plane) and then a large, square ring with 4 more tow-bars pointed inward. However, they have to be one (or was it two?) spaces away from the center.
the tow-bars on the outside will try to pull the block in the center but can never accomplish this, since all four have opposition. Stranger still: using the "gas pedal" and moveing the control stick has "an effect." I recall that repeatedly full-pressing on the accelerator and moving the stick in a circle could cause this otherwise unpowered vehicle to fly halfway across the length of the Jiggoseum.
P.S. I also really enjoyed just flying around into the "hidden workings" of Nutty Acres at the top of the entire map (not with this device, but it was fun to fall down with it) and also just casually traveling around the Banjoland area.
Great game, but not what I was hoping for in a sequel (in gameplay or visuals) after almost a decade of waiting.

Since I haven't played this game in many years I may be misremembering, but here's a trick for the _Save Our Statue_ mission (27:00). Instead of trying to fight off the enemies you could just pick up the trophy and carry it into one of the hollow logs outside the farm. Those logs are indestructible so the enemies won't be able to get to the trophy and you will easily win with it taking minimal damage.

Using a hyperdrive (a system using the towbar) you can create large amounts of horizontal momentum, enough to be able to do most if not all the water missions, and complete that one in the terrarium on the roof, by driving up the wall
As for flying missions to 100% the game... not much I can say there... you ruled out flying... so even if there was a way to complete them, you would probably say no to using it for those purposes

Even though I haven't played this game (yet), I am of the opinion that it's not a bad game, but it is a subpar Banjo Kazooie game. If it wasn't a sequel to the series, or being overtly self-aware about trying to be different because it felt it needed to be, it probably would have been better.

A lot of people have said this game would’ve been better received if it wasn’t tied to BK. I’d go a step further and say it probably wouldn’t have received all the hate if they made it clear this was a spin-off, and the collectathon wasn’t going away. They could’ve just said “Hey guys you need to earn your moves back by doing this vehicle adventure” or something, take out the slander toward collectathons, and boom, you have yourself a possibly better received spin-off and then an actual Banjo-3 a few years later. It’s all about framing, and the makers really wanted to fail.
