Yeah I definitely think it was a stretch for him to say first gear is absolutely useless. It is definitely useful doing the type of terrain this bike is made for... trails.
Does it pull hard through 6th gear? with you saying 1st is too short maybe a smaller rear sprocket is in order for slightly taller gearing. Higher top speed is always a win.
Replace the tires. I have a 21 as well, the stock front tire is the worst and would wash out on me. I went with tubliss and a fatty front tire, larger rear tire which changes the gearing slightly but first is still great for slow technical uphill climbs
You can’t compare the size/thickness of a steel frame vs aluminum. The smaller diameter of the steel doesn’t make it lesser, or weaker. Steel is stronger and that’s all the size it needs to be to be strong enough.
Liked your video. I bought a 2021 300R about 6 months ago. Just getting back into riding offroad(single track Sam Houston and Kisatchie National Forests). Bought IMS big pegs, Hand guards and bar risers. Love the power and tractor action. I'm 6' and 215 to 220 pounds. Seems a little cramped and awkward when standing which is most always while kickin it. I'm 59 and is a strain on back and legs. Just doesn't feel comfortable. I will try the move forward on the bar adjustment. I am interested in what you stated on the rear shock set up that made a big difference. Could you go into detail a little more as to what you did and how you determined the correct sag etc. Love the bike just trying to make it better for an older geezer that used to ride Honda Elsinores back in the day..... a long time ago. Thank you for any info and Merry Christmas to all.
I weight about 200 and have been hitting the limits on the suspension. With the exhaust, airbox lid removed, and EJK the power is too much for the suspension and my weight. My new springs arrived today, going to install them tomorrow.
Good review of this bike. I own one, and there are better bikes out there, but it is what I could afford. And I have fun riding it. I ride it in some pretty tough terrain, and it does good. I did buy a skid plate for it.
Try sitting further back on the seat when you have one foot on the ground and one foot on the foot peg. This may help with the positioning and comfort.
bar risers and new bars ? might help, kawasaki build is not the best kinda cheap compared to others but not to expensive you get what you pay for still good bike!!
I went with the Acerbis X Factory, once you cut the rubber ends off you have to bore out the inside of the bars, I overheated the metal when I was boring them out and the throttle side expanded and caused the throttle to stick so I have to peel the inside of where the rubber melted off and it was a huge pain to install.
The difference between the Kx and the Klx is the frame is made of steel. On the kx it’s aluminum so it has to be thicker
If you ride steep and rough single track trails then that 1st gear will be quite handy.

I got the 2023 to ride with my son on the crf110. I like it alot, fast enough its fun but can go slow with my son.

How long is your inseam just curious as I consider the bike (I am 6’1” 32 inch inseam
Is the shifting weird to you?

KLX300R is a good bike for sure. You def have the right truck too! Can't beat F150s. Enjoy 👍🏻 💯
I have a coworker and him & his husband both love their F-150’s .

Video sounds so sad...
Why did you buy it? Did you do any research?

Also the front tire situation at high speeds could be due to body position as well.
Sounds like you need to gear up if 1st gear is too short

Try a guts tall seat foam.
What handgaurds did you go with?

😂
Maybe consider getting a leg reduction! 😂❤👍
