• LONG TRAVEL SUSPENSION
• FULL-SIZE WHEELS
• KX™-INSPIRED STYLING AND ERGONOMICS
ENGINE
• Compact Liquid-Cooled Engine
• Flat top piston with pentroof combustion chamber delivers power-enhancing 11.1:1 compression ratio.
• Lightweight piston, piston pin and connecting rod allow power-producing revs without excessive vibration.
• Piston skirt designed to minimize contact with the cylinder wall and wide connecting rod big-end bearings enhance durability.
• Dual high-capacity radiators similar to those used on Kawasaki KX™ motocross machines provide excellent cooling efficiency. The slim radiators feature the same tightly-packed cores and fin design of the KX250
4-Valve DOHC Cylinder Head(KP)
Electric Starter
• Combined with DFI, starter button provides easy engine starting.
• Electric starter and the Kawasaki Automatic Compression Release (KACR)(KP), which automatically lifts an exhaust valve at cranking rpm, makes starting the KLX®300R easy.
Gear Driven Engine Balancer(KP)
• Engine runs smoothly from idle to redline.
• More rider comfort and less fatigue on long rides
Digital Capacitor Discharge Ignition (CDI)(KP)
• Digital ECU precisely controls timing, no matter how fast the RPM changes.
• Easy starts and reliability under extreme conditions.
U.S. Forest Service-Approved Spark Arrester
• U.S. Forest Service-approved spark arrester allows access to designated public riding areas.
ENGINE
• Six-Speed Transmission
• Six speeds provide a gear for varying situations.
• Short final gearing complements the engine’s low-mid range focus, making navigating tight trails easier.
• Smooth shifting for ease of use.
High Tensile Steel Perimeter Frame(KP)
• The frame is built up of box-section and tubular high-tensile steel.
• The 26.9° steering head angle and 56.5 inch wheelbase contribute to quick trail maneuverability.
• Optimized frame rigidity contributes to excellent straight line ability.
FRAME
• 43mm Inverted Cartridge Fork(KP)
• Fork settings utilize a softer spring rate to allow damping to work over a wider stroke range for better front-end feeling.
• 20-way compression damping adjustment.
• Cartridge maintains more consistent damping force by minimizing aeration of the fork oil.
Uni-Trak® Rear Suspension(KP)
• The nitrogen-filled, aluminum body, remote reservoir rear shock has 20-way compression and 18-way rebound damping adjustment and stepless threaded spring pre-load.
• Lightweight, extruded aluminum swingarm contributes to overall frame rigidity balance. D-shaped spars are attractive and KX-type chain adjusters facilitate maintenance.
Front and Rear Disc Brakes
• Twin piston front caliper grasps a 270mm front disc, the same size as that found on the KX250/450, for incredible stopping power.
• Single piston rear caliper and a 240mm disc to give strong, reliable performance.
SUSPENSION
• Also from the KX line, the upper triple clamp provides two mounting positions for the reversible handlebar clamps so that the handlebar can be set in one of four positions with a 35mm range of adjustment.
• Adjustable front brake lever position suits various hand sizes and preferences.

Good review of this bike. I own one, and there are better bikes out there, but it is what I could afford. And I have fun riding it. I ride it in some pretty tough terrain, and it does good. I did buy a skid plate for it.

I cut close to three inches off of the shift lever and rewelded the pivot back onto it so that it barely pokes out from behind the alternator case. I was knocking the bike up, down or between gears constantly over rough terrain as I had the same problem with my big clown shoes. Love the bike but if I had one complaint, it delivers power like a quad.

Does it pull hard through 6th gear? with you saying 1st is too short maybe a smaller rear sprocket is in order for slightly taller gearing. Higher top speed is always a win.

Liked your video. I bought a 2021 300R about 6 months ago. Just getting back into riding offroad(single track Sam Houston and Kisatchie National Forests). Bought IMS big pegs, Hand guards and bar risers. Love the power and tractor action. I'm 6' and 215 to 220 pounds. Seems a little cramped and awkward when standing which is most always while kickin it. I'm 59 and is a strain on back and legs. Just doesn't feel comfortable. I will try the move forward on the bar adjustment. I am interested in what you stated on the rear shock set up that made a big difference. Could you go into detail a little more as to what you did and how you determined the correct sag etc. Love the bike just trying to make it better for an older geezer that used to ride Honda Elsinores back in the day..... a long time ago. Thank you for any info and Merry Christmas to all.

I weight about 200 and have been hitting the limits on the suspension. With the exhaust, airbox lid removed, and EJK the power is too much for the suspension and my weight. My new springs arrived today, going to install them tomorrow.

Try sitting further back on the seat when you have one foot on the ground and one foot on the foot peg. This may help with the positioning and comfort.

Also the front tire situation at high speeds could be due to body position as well.

You can’t compare the size/thickness of a steel frame vs aluminum. The smaller diameter of the steel doesn’t make it lesser, or weaker. Steel is stronger and that’s all the size it needs to be to be strong enough.

The difference between the Kx and the Klx is the frame is made of steel. On the kx it’s aluminum so it has to be thicker

  • @keithwalker4157
    @keithwalker4157 Před 2 lety

Replace the tires. I have a 21 as well, the stock front tire is the worst and would wash out on me. I went with tubliss and a fatty front tire, larger rear tire which changes the gearing slightly but first is still great for slow technical uphill climbs

  • @bryancornell6949
    @bryancornell6949 Před 2 lety

The frame is High strength steel on the KLX300r. The race KX bikes have and ALUMINUM frame and since aluminum is a softer/ lighter metal it needs to be thicker in comparison. Your frame will have no troubles coping with anything that you can abuse it on. It is easier, cheaper and consequently also heavier to make things of steel.

    • @restway5943

I went with the Acerbis X Factory, once you cut the rubber ends off you have to bore out the inside of the bars, I overheated the metal when I was boring them out and the throttle side expanded and caused the throttle to stick so I have to peel the inside of where the rubber melted off and it was a huge pain to install.

I think the frame design is just because they recycled the same frame that was used on the KDX200/220 back in 2005.

My skidplate from 2002 KDX fits on my '18 KLX250, LOL. So you are right. The engine, chassis, and a lot of suspension is from '95. It still works good, they added EFI and kept the cost down. Awesome bikes.

  • @King_Chronic22

I have a 2021 KLX300R as well great review bro. I find the stock tires not aggressive enough for my liking I know it’s a trail bike and not a MX but I just don’t get that bite I’m looking for. The topic of power is very subjective and I’m a big guy weighing 260 and even riding with others on 250’s I can be right on them on the trails. I just feel the torque is lower then a 250 and the time to get to top speed is longer even though hitting 70mph is 100% possible. My frame has held up well I have had the bike for over 10 months.

    • @restway5943
      @restway5943 Před 2 lety

Yeah, I feel the power is adequate for a trail bike and I still have not had the skill to fully unleash its full potential. I guess I was subjective comparing it to my KLR 650 which has a bunch more torque but that comparison is not exactly fair I suppose. When I rewatched this video I noticed my riding position is very forward which could be causing the awkward shifter placement on my foot, have you had any issues with that?

@@MrRGiller definitely bro, its just not gonna have the torc of a 250 but you will be moving down the trails with ease, bike does an easy 70 mph just wont hit that speed as fast as a race bike, awesome trail bike though
