We began our apartment hunt in Guadalajara with a bang! The housing stock here is fantastic as well as the people who have helped us along the way. Thank you to all of our subscribers who have helped us along the way. We have been very busy these past few weeks viewing homes and placing offers and we are on the cusp of signing a contract soon God willing. Here are some of the homes we viewed and the lessons we learned along the way.

I love how you guys separately jot down what characteristics you want in a home and then compile one list incorporating things you both want as your final "draft" per say. You do not see a lot if couples doing this when deciding on things . You can see the respect and love you have towards each other . I just ❤❤❤ your guys energy and watching you guys enjoying your life to the fullest !

To make it work compromise is the word...but honestly we both want the same thing...to see eachother happy. Thanks for catching and speaking to that...not too many people will.🤗

I hope you guys find what you’re looking for. I tried Guadalajara but it felt like I was in Miami (I love Miami) but, in Mexico I wanted more Mexican charm. I ended up in Ajijic in a house for 2 years. A yard with grass and trees in that climate. A dream experience. Our neighbor behind us was a horse, that was used to keep a vacant lot mowed.

I prefer seeing more of nature but I live in NY SO WILL NEVER COMPLAIN of WHAT is outside your window. I'm sure nighttime/ dusk has some crazy sunsets and moon light.
The the 1 bedroom i love...I just love the natural light, the Lay out. It looks spacious and comfy.

The place in Valle Real is very near me. I’ve lived there for 2 years, great area, safe and really developing into a prime location. Besides Popeyes and Applebees, you will be walking distance to Lupe’s BBQ and a new Denny’s. They have almost completed construction on the roadways that tie into the Periferico. No Mibici stations anywhere nearby though. A car would really be a great help, you would be very close to Plaza Andares (Swank mall with tons of very nice restaurants)......Costco and Plaza Gallerias (with Hooters and Cheesecake Factory)are 10-15 minutes by car.

Another great vlog. Can you talk about the electric cost when u were living in Merida? with the DAC rates n how you averaged in electric bill? Was this a consideration in searching your new dig? Thanks in advance

    • @TheYarbros
      @TheYarbros  Před 3 lety +4

Here the a/c is not a consideration because of the temperate climate. But in Mérida our electric was only $60 USD and we ran one all day everyday. It is important to choose a home that has a new(er) a/c the old ones suck energy and run your bill #allthewayup

    Apt#1
Hiking is an option, not a requirement to get home. Next!
    Apt#2
Feeling like Family. Before you got to putting in an offer, I'd already predicted an offer of 15,000 & buy your own washer & dryer, the agreement to leave them behind sweetens the deal. I love the apartment & its light fixtures.
    Apt#3
I'd guessed that you'd offer $15,000 but a private washer & dryer is attractive. Was that a fridge or a watercooler? You will be at Popeye's more often if cold food storage space negates.😂 Yes a freezer is a good look. That kitchen is great for a caterer, Baker or event planner. One of you can set up your classroom there. Best of Luck.

You made pretty good predictions! We like Apt 2 the most and are working on our negotiation skills. Apt 3 tiny fridge was strange lol but we liked the views. The kitchen could definitely fit a classroom! I think if we'd stay there, we'd find any excuse to spend money at Popeyes and the other surrounding stores and restaurants everyday.

@@TheYarbros Tiny apartment fridges take some getting used to, but they have advantages we normally wouldn’t think of. Less food waste, buying fresh locally more often, rather than major monthly or weekly trips to Costco or big chain supermarkets. A nice thing about buying at your local neighborhood tienda (bodega/abarrotes/whatever-you-call-them) is you’re going to start getting to know your neighbors.
You all are pretty experienced travels, so I’m sure you’ve made adjustments to meet limitations, and found unexpected benefits.

We have lived in several Guadalajara neighborhoods for short (~1 month) stretches. If you liked Chapalita, and can afford these apartments, then I strongly recommend that you check out Providencia. Why live in the outskirts when you can be in a vibrant neighborhood!? I have never felt that security was a significant issue in Guadalajara, although it makes sense that in a larger apartment building your extended absence will not be as likely to be noticed by petty thieves.
