My first video watching because my husband is from Guadalajara we couldn’t go this year because of covid and for our safety and yes all the places around Guadalajara are so beautiful
Love this. When I lived along the AZ border we would always go to the artisan/crafters in Mexico to shop. We would take a truck as my friend was furnishing her B&B casitas. On my own, I would take a portable shopping dolly and a couple of big boxes and bungee cords. I never feel guilty eating all the food as I'm walking it off. Get to know those vendors you really like and establish a relationship, let them know you'll give them a shout out and you will probably get even more of a discount. Let them know your local and often you can get delivery (make sure you get receipts that clearly state that) and give a good tip. I also love baskets, boxes, and bowls, storage, and decoration in one. As for pickpockets google RFID bags and so many choices. Bags & wallets that can not be scanned and for ladies purses straps that can not be cut or tampered with. Also RFID credit card and passport sleeves. In the states, a police officer told me that the little scanning device is as small as a credit card and someone can walk behind you and point in at your back pocket or handbag and it scans your CC details. I've used the CC sleeves for years. Love your videos. From another April.
It is great to see you are enjoying Guadalajara! Tonala is amazing. If you haven't already, be sure to go and see the Orozco murals in Guadalajara. They are incredible. We moved to Mexico three years ago and love it! We live in a small Mexican pueblo between Guadalajara and Lake Chapala. It is a farming community with a very laid back vibe. There are few expats here, so it is a very traditional village. If you ever want to check out small town Mexico, we would be happy to show you around. Keep enjoying your adventure!

Yup, that's Tonala! They also have larger furniture ... it's easy to see how some Mexicans will take the bus 4-5 hrs each way to go to the market there a couple times a year. I've spent a lot of time in GDL, moving January 2025 or earlier if I can manage to work remotely before then! Just discovered your channel, been watching New Travel, Kinetic Kennons, and Tangerine Travels for a couple years

The hand craft prices change from state to state due to probably they are no from that place and the transportation cost make them more expensive than in their current location, for instance is you go to chiapas you will find very cheap cloths and if you go let say to CDMX you will find the same with a higher price. Each state has their own hand craft style.
I understand but mark-up so you don't lose money. Why I like to buy from the source. 😏

vendors buy their goods in bigger quantaties, so they are able to sell them at a cheaper price, but in all cases the artist don't get pay the value of their work, and also
not all handmade artwork is worth the same, lets be
honest, for example oaxacas artwork can be more expensive..
