On this channel, I invite you to join me in exploring the intricate tapestry of my life. As a Russian-New Zealand adoptee, I open up about my experiences, shedding light on topics that resonate with fellow adoptees. From vlogs to illuminating stories, this space is dedicated to sharing not only my own journey but also the inspiring narratives of others who've walked a similar path.
Having been adopted at the age of two from an orphanage in Arkhangelsk, Russia, into the embrace of my New Zealand family, I delve into the path of my cultural upbringing, the history that has shaped me, and the meaningful connections I've made with my birth family. My quest to uncover the missing links of my heritage takes me to Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, each step a chapter in my evolving story.

Thank you for being a part of my journey!
I find it pretty interesting how much your brother looks like your birth father too. He has really strong genes haha
Your brother really looks like your father's younger version. The face is so much alike
Both brothers have got the eyes and the nose of their father.
Being surrounded by such lovely relatives is the most beautiful feeling in this world. Kinda envy you Alex in a positive way ofc
You and your bio brother look so much alike!
Alex, you and your brother look so alike!
Your Little sister know you since she was a baby, just like your nephew. In the future New Zeland and Russia will be only history and Love will keep you as a family! What a history!!!!! Your parents from NZ are proud of you , definitely!!!!
It was nice seeing your brother, sister in law and nephew. Both you and your brother look so much like your Dad.
I know that Russia might look a bit shocking during springtime for foreigners, especially when you walking around our usual muddy commie-blocks. But seems like you already got used to it just like we automatically did ahah. Also, it's impossible not to mention this - but your half-brother shares a lot of friendly/smiley vibes as your birth father. Guess it's just in your genes. It's also good to see that you made a lot of Russian friends along the way from all the cities that you visited. And finally - great camera quality. Witnessing your journey brings so much joy.
Love your videos ... i am from india and living in russia... next time when you visit there , i waana meet you
Lovely family, your brother looks exactly like his father.
Your nephew is fascinated with the camera! So nice you got to spend some time with your brother.
AWESOME!! Hi Alex you and your brother have your Dad smile , your Russian language has improved a lot and even I don't understand the language but I like the way you communicating with your family.
God bless you
Couldn't be happier for you as you share your journey. The resemblance between your dad, brother and yourself is uncanny.
The countryside there looks very much like in northern Canada. I have a similar feeling when I go to my family's home area. It grounds your soul to go out and face the rest of the world again. I'm glad you had a great visit!!
Hello from Chicgoland. I was born in Arkhangelsk also!
Thank you, Alex ! You are a very talented and creative person. I enjoy watching your videos and wish you all the best.
I used to study Russian at middle school, but didn't want to learn anything back then.. Now.. the more videos I watch, the more I want to learn Russian language..
@@kosteaproduction Lithuania
well, despite all political discrepancies between us, Russian deserves learning just for the fact that it's a pretty big lingua franca and it's the second used language on the internet after English, so there's a lot of content in Russian.
Your brother, his wife, and your nephew are so kind. Anastasia is such a lovely woman.
It must feel nostalgic and familiar, not necessarily because you have lived there, but purely because of the connection you have. You look very comfortable in your birthplace!
It looks very nice Alex and your friend Anastasia is such a beautiful and lovely girl!
Let’s not forget your brother and his family who definitely play a big part to your visit there as well. Your videos are so inspirational to everyone!! Enjoy your stay!! 😊
Anastasia is a very funny girl 😃
Angels from Arkhangelsk.
Thank you for taking us on this journey with you
I'd like to learn more about your brother.
If you're looking for ideas, would love to hear about what your brother's family's life is like in Arkhangelsk - what are their jobs, what type of dwelling do they live in, what are their political views (if safe to share), what kind of educations do they have, what are their dreams for their son, etc. Thanks for sharing your interesting life with us.
Когда смотрю на тебя и твоих счастливых родственников, у самого на лице появляется улыбка, которая долго не спадает.Очень рад и счастлив за вас :) When I look at you and your happy relatives, a smile appears on my face that does not subside for a long time. I am very happy and happy for you :)

Another great and positive video Alex. The train journey and the countryside reminded me of my last trip to Russia.
Oh ..you just visited my city
God bless your whole beautiful family....
Спасибо огромное за видео! Такие приятные у тебя родственники!! Супер!
Ты молодец, Саша!
Your nephew likes the camera.. I smell a vlogger in him
Lot of good emotions out there....
As always, I enjoy your videos and your story very very much!
I appreciate when you take us on your train journies because the countryside and small towns are so lovely! Thank you, Alex. I remember Anastasia from an older video, was she helping to translate in Archangelsk back then? I guess I forgot how you met but she's charming!
Yes! She was helping! Her mother is good friends with my birth father from back in the day! :)
Lovely people you have in Russia, and overnight trains are a good way to travel! Looks like you took first class since you were sharing a closed compartment. (My only problem with those was that they got so hot.) A little bit about pronunciation: when I first studied Russian, the Russian instructors used to tell us to memorize where the stress of a word was placed along with the spelling. It's easier to learn it in the beginning rather than trying to correct yourself later. Your brother's name in Russian is Артём. When a word has the letter [ё] in it, the stress is always always on that letter. So his name should be pronounced ar-TYOM with the stress on the second syllable. Your nephew Aleksei's (Алексей) name should also have the stress on the last syllable, so it would be pronounced a-lik-SAY. Finally, although Arkhangelsk comes from the word for archangel, the [a] sounds are all pronounced as "ah." The pronunciation is ahr-HAHN-gelsk. (Word to the wise: native speakers often refrain from correcting people learning their language. If they understand, it's good enough, even if it's very accented, so just keep listening to them and trying to imitate their speech.) Obviously, you are doing well if you absentmindedly spoke Russian with someone who spoke English. Опять молодец!
New subscriber and I’m really enjoying watching your journey! All the best from the UK mate
I’ ve just seen in the news the fire caught manufacture in Sankt Peterburg... I hope you and your family are safe. Greetings🇸🇮
Очень интересно. Архангельск нужно посмотреть. Поехать бы в августе...
Incredible. You look so similar
I looked up Arkhangelsk, Russia on my maps in Kindle. I have done some investigation into my family roots. I have ancestors in Norway and Sweeden and from what was Prussia and now part of Russia not far from Lithuania. I understand your feelings of being connected spiritually to the place of your birth. I have always been drawn to the ocean or lakes, love to fish, and would feel quite at home in Arkhangelsk! I have lived most of my life in Northern Wisconsin in the USA. This past winter we experienced a couple weeks of temperatures as low as -34C. I always say you know it's cold when you inhale and your nostrils stick together. Best wishes. I think your journey is guided by the archangels!
If subconsciously you speak Russian with Anastasia, that is a good sign; it means your brain is really wrapping around the Russian language. And Alex, I appreciate your positive energy!🙋🏻♀️
Hes suppose to be teaching Sonia English and she's now teaching him Russian. Hes gone native.
Hi from NZ
Little guy will be a vlogger when he grows up :D
I can’t help myself from being amazed looking at all this highly-developed fully electrified railroad infrastructure that allows one to travel in such comfort and obviously dirt cheap! This is definitely zero-emission transportation that everybody is bragging about.
@@user-on2bt2kb8r I believe that currently is the most cost effective way to get from point A to point B. Driving and air-travel cannot even come close in $/mile ratio for such a long distance.
Quelle impression d'immensité dans les paysages russes! Tout semble d'une autre dimension qu'en Europe de l'Ouest.
Watching your videos and I appreciate everything you do!
Your nephew looks a lot like you :D
My son was born on the 1st April too. I'm glad you got to meet you brother and family. Stay safe.
Good job Alex. It’s definitely a culture shock just looking at it through video. Everything looks cold. If they visit NZ, they’re never gonna want to leave.
Anastasia is beautiful and kind!
Was you nephew named after you? I love your story so much, and I'm so happy for what you are doing.
Very nice girl Anastasia
You two would make a cute couple. :)
Your brother has such long hands and finger. Like a pianist
I will tell him this. Never heard this before! 🤣🤣
@@alexgilbert Well sometimes guy don't take such compliments in the best way. I remember noticing how beautiful were lashes of one of my friends and saying it him subsequently. He was confused and somehow unpleasantly surprised 😃
@@Martina-Kosicanka Do not think he is going to feel uneasy if this brother tell him this comment .
@@emiriebois2428 Sorry, I am not sure how you mean it
@@user-on2bt2kb8r I am Slovak and so is my friend, so I guess it apply on us, too :). As far as I remember, I said it without any sexual intention, just something I just noticed and I said it aloud without thinking
it would be nice to know more about your brother life and know his reaction that he had a brother. Too short. May be next time.
Always great to see your videos and the eager to connect with your roots. And your Russian vocabulary is expanding, by the end of the visit you must be very comfortable with all the basic topics of it! Good job!
Какие прекрасные люди!
Alex it was so nice seeing you with your brother. He seems like the quiet one in the family. You look so happy being able to explore where you come from. I hope we get to see more videos from your trip. Stay safe. 😊😊😊
Wowwwww. I enjoyed watching this. I'm so interested in Russia and its cultures.
Me too
Welcome to Russia 😎
Alex, you are so loyal to all of your family. They all love you.You are a lovely person.
You are very lucky. Suddenly, you have an extended family. What a gift from God.
I love you spending time with your brother, maybe someday your adopted brother could meet him and i think that Anastasia and you might hook up!!!!
My brother definitely will meet him! And for Anastasia - I can tell you that we are close and had dated a few times. Her personality is beautiful.
@@alexgilbert Lucky man!!!
@@kosteaproduction a personal question of course! haha I can't say no though!
@@alexgilbert счастье любит тишину :) Russian proverb, means when you are truly happy-keep it seacret ... :)
Traditional Russian Meals
Wonderful to see your homeland and meet more of your family. Thank you and awesome
5:44 Bless you for showing some Russian pigeons having a snack. I hope to see more of them.
Anastasia is such beautiful charismatic woman.
She is!
@@alexgilbert Hold onto her, Alex! ;^> But pronounce her name Ana STAH zya. (not the English Ana STAY zya).
@@alexgilbert Maybe hook up w her romantically...never know.
What a joy to see you with your brother and wife and baby Alexie the future vlogger like you. You are a delight with kids like your sister Sonia and the cousin and the people around you. Wow we can't go to Russia but because of your channel we are traveling with you via CZcams. The view of the country side from the train on your way to Arkhangelsk looks beautiful. I can only imagine like you said no words to express what's going on inside you but what a memory lane to your birthplace. Happy for you going back to your history with an open soul. Again one piece of the puzzle coming together. Your brother and wife and baby looks happy to see you. Your friend Anastasia good job girl. Alex needs someone there to keep him on his toes he he especially for a smart woman like you. Let him practice his Russian with you. In his defense Maybe he speaks Russian with you because he is in Russia and just being respectful he he. What did they say when you are in Rome do what the Romans do?
I think this stay in Russia will mean more to you than you think now. It will - hopefully! - not turn everything upside down but you will go back to NZ with loads of impressions and experiences.
Btw I like Russia mentality about friends and family! They very close and help each other.
Alex, all the best for You and Your Families.
Artyom’s wife is beautiful.
Привет Алек,переведите на русский язык.Вы большой молодец.Так держать.Очень позитивный молодой человек.
Beautiful new family how wonderful
Always love your vids.
Alex really love your vids...you have such a great spirit...also love when you speak russian
Glad to see you having a good time in our country! Wish you luck 🍀 and pls continue studying Russian, would be a pleasure to hear from you))
Beautiful place
Lovely video.
У тебя классная семья) u have cool family !
Another very nice video.
The land in Archangelsk looks very like where I live in the North West Territories Canada.
Archangelsk is something like Yellowknife.
Privyet!👍
I love your video,s
Anastasia is so beautiful!!! You can tell she has an amazing personality too. Don’t mess it up young man! 😂
Alex has all the pretty girls. Vera too!
Do you have a brief bio of yourself and a description of your family? I saw one of your vids about a year ago and have just reconnected with your channel and now I see you have many half siblings and also saw that you were adopted with a brother in New Zealand. I looked for that kind of info, but did not find it. Was surprised that you were adopted with another boy and was wondering if that brother is a full blood brother. Sorry if you find this request and questions intrusive. I love the fact that you have spent so much time reconnecting with your parents in Russia and am totally amazed at how good your Russian is at is seems like a very hard language to master. All the best Alex and keep on posting these great vids.
Great video neat people
probably one of many who have said that your brother is your birth father's stunt double or lookalike :)
💙
Hi Alex lovely video, even though I watched a few of them I'm still confused about the relationship with your brother.Artyom. There is so much age difference with birth father's young daughter. Some father different mothers? Regards from Australia. And by the way "Happy Birthday".
That seems like a nice city. I’m from Florida, so it’d be a bit too cold for me. The Russian people seem very nice, actually a lot like us here in the states. Pretty sure it’s just our governments that can’t get along.
Сразу видно, Алексей, твой племянник, будет оператором как ты. Он сразу понял что ему надо взять в руки.One can see right away, Alexey, your nephew, will become an operator like you. He immediately realized that he needed to pick it up.
I'll bet it's nice in summer
Alex looks like a younger version of Garik Sukachev.
Красивая семья у Артёма, супер
