My nephew was adopted in 1998 from Ulynovsk, Russia. I was fortunate to travel there to meet him and bring him to his home in California. How can he start the research? We have all papers in both languages!

Every time I watch the story of an adopted person the verse from the Quran comes in my mind. My father was adopted… long story. He never had chance to find out who his real parents were because didn’t have the courage to ask his adopted parents for the information. He didn’t want to seen ungrateful or come across as disrespectful to them. Very sad . In the name of Allah the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful . Did He not find thee an orphan and give thee shelter (and care)? And He found thee wandering, and He gave thee guidance. And He found thee in need, and made thee independent. Therefore, treat not the orphan with harshness, Nor repulse the petitioner (unheard); But the bounty of the Lord - rehearse and proclaim

I love that he knows everything about his history. A sign of great parents. They treasured and remembered everything and passed it on.

I am surprised that they only had to jump through all the hoops when they adopted overseas. Why don’t they have to do these things in the US?

Great story. I'm like 60 and living in Australia, but I'm learning Russian so I can go to Russian and find my father's family. I've been listening to Russian learning pod casts for about 8 months. I think it's a wonderful language. Congrats :)

Wonderful account of one man's search. He makes such an important point for everyone regardless of whether you are adopted or not. It's important to understand where your from. It helps you understand your own life and others with a more open mind.

Your step mother looks like a really nice lady. Not all wives would be so accepting to find out their spouse had a long lost child. She seems to have taken it in stride.

Hi Alex! Have you considered talking to famous Russian-New Zealand adoptee boxer Andrey Michailovich? He was adopted from St.Petersburgs orphanage together with his twin brother to New Zealand. He underlines that he is Russian but it seems like he does not know anything about his birth family. Maybe you could help Andrey investigate and we all would watch together with the worlwide boxing fans audience.
