Corrections: 3:50 Claire's gun is actually out of bullets, leaving her with no other options. Didn't notice that when writing.
Corrections: 4:20 Rodrigo is not actually black, he is Hispanic
#residentevil #residentevilcodeveronicax #residentevilcodeveronica - Hry
This is probably my favourite depiction of Wesker in the series. Hes nearly at the peak of his power but still a cog in a much larger nefarious machine, and I like how much he takes delight in how big the gap is between him and a "mortal" like Chris. Its not that he is *not* taking advantage of the opportunity to kill Chris, its that whether he does or not it wont impact his ultimate goal at all so f it he'll 'play with his food' and take advantage of exits to keep it going as long as possible, laughing along the way
+ Every one of Steves lines is absolute gold
Isn't it weird that both Survivor and Veronica use Umbrella Islands that serve as prisons?
YES. It IS weird, my friend. Islands where strange experiments, people whom are captured against their will, and strange rich people controlling the island who are very much so into *freaky thingzzz* (shout to Daylyt) exist under one umbrella.
Kinda sounds like maybe Epst... nvm. :P
After the list this crazy to see haha
To this very day I am still convinced that "Galfred" doesn't just change into a dress but rather goes through an anime-esque magic girl transformation. Like Heather from Silent Hill 3.
I love CV, it has a special place in resident evil game lore, and definitely needed a Remake more than RE4.
If and when this is remade, I PRAY TO GOD that they keep and include all of his laughs throughout the game. It was my most anticipated part while playing/ watching this game.
Yh re4 suks ass
@jamessunderland8162 But those are only good in a "so bad it's good sense". If remade, this game has a chance to have actually interesting and creepy villains with even elements of psychological horror. It'd be a shame to waste that for some memes.
@@antelasic1950 true that.. I just hope that they completely overhaul Steve
Re4 was the safe remake since its a much more critcally acclaimed game, but yes CV needs one more than any of them that are left, it was my first RE, and i would love to see it made for current audiences
Steve was certainly one of the Resident Evil characters of all time
??
Father!!!!!!!!!
Definitely one of the characters, for sure
"Somehow this somewhat even looking matchup ended up with her being captured"
The slide is conspicuously locked after shooting indicating that the gun is empty. Advantage black man.
Great videos!
The knife in Code Veronica is OP.
You can use it for half the game and stack some serious ammo.
If ur pro yh or u gets fucked up quicker than you can say Claire Redfield lol
Code Veronica/X (both Dreamcast versions) are probably my favorite of the whole series, alongside REmake and 4. Something about the weird tone with the royalty and all that, it fits well with the series and also stands on it’s own.
4 sucks ass
“Steve is suffering” “good”
Steve is the man. Can't wait for the CV remake though because Steve needs a new voice actor bad...
@@leadme2thebliss21 His voice in Dark side chronicles isn't bad. In fact , Steve is far more tolerable in that game.
Fuck yeah! It’s Steve time!
Yessss! I've been patiently waiting for your next RE release! Thank you
Oh god, I'd forgotten just how terrible Steve's voice acting is.
And how great Alfred is. He's evil, and he LOVES it, and you gotta respect that.
1:16:35-I don’t get how the stump of a severed tendril could end up not only killing Steve, but turning him back into a human.
1:18:06-And thank you for going over why Claire and Steve’s romance is the worst and was never going to work out.
Maybe the stump killed him because her blood is toxic or something as the blood goes on fire in Chris' fight & Nosferatu (surprised I spelt that right first try) had that toxic poison he released so maybe that killed him but him turning back to human is um not explained. We only see 2 others infected with the T-Veronica virus & both don't turn human again upon death last time I checked.
@@cillianennis9921 True, but the death scene is so ludicrous and baffling to look at, I feel like this was a cheap way to kill off Steve and make us care for him.
@@samflood5631 Yeah they probably didn't want a boss fight & just kinda killed him. I feel like whoever designed that part of the game was left on there own to just do whatever to hit some points & nobody ever play tested it.
@@cillianennis9921 It's stuff like this that Code Veronica is in desperate need of a remake.
Praying for a CV remake 😭😭😭
if they do they better make it like they did the RE1 & RE4 remakes where they only changed what needed improvements & mainly added to the game instead of RE2 & RE3 which are good games but not the best remakes since they cut so much. RE2 remake is the better of the remakes but it does the characters oddly making some really dumb like removing Annette's loyalty to her family & that's why she cares about the G-virus so much as its her families legacy. Ada also is weird removing her kinda arc & Leon also kinda loses his one drive to save people no matter what. Claire is the worst as she just lost all her strong character to become a silly strong woman trope thing & Sheri is pretty unchanged & Irons has alright changes. Marvin is improved but I hate those scenes where the player character says we should get you to a hospital. huh the police station is in pieces & they think the hospital will not be completely overran with zombies.
Been having fun watching these RE Retrospectives ^^
hope to see some of the more obscured re games like Gaiden
been eagerly awaiting this one. Veronica X was always this weird pariah of the series amongst people ive known, but I never understood why. It was harder, sure. Steve was perhaps one of the most obnoxious characters in the series that makes Ashley seem likable, but I thought the game was still really good and it was exciting to see Claire again!
Weird how?
It came out on a console nobody own it, and when it was ported to other consoles, people were already either tired of the genre, or just playing Silent Hill 2 or REmake.
It's because most people didn't have it because of the Sega exclusivity. If it had a wide release when it initially dropped it would be considered as one of the best. Game is very underrated.
It's because they didn't play RE as it was coming out, and only played it because "old games are cool" in their eyes. Let's not mince this. It's the same thing when it comes to FF games and Chrono Trigger over Chrono Cross. People will always be sheep and will bleat when asked to bleat. Because "ppl on net know what they're talking about."
Right was good to see chris and wesker too again. The mentioning of 3 original founders of umbrella.
Well Marcus was not mentioned in files
It sucks that Steve gets so much hate. Given his age and what happened to him his childish personality matches him well. He's one of the most memorable RE characters imo.
I would choose Steve over Ethan any day. At least he had a personality
I was 19 when I first played this game in 2000; didn’t particularly desire to kiss any young women when they were sleeping…
The vagaries of college regardless.
No it doesn't. Many people have a hard life and don't act like children, and as also pointed out here they don't try to kiss someone while they're asleep.
@@antelasic1950but are these people kept away from society for years? I agree with the kissing thing, but other than that he’s a 17 year old who has been locked away on an island prison. I think he gets a pass for some of his actions since he doesn’t have anyone telling him right from wrong.
Ethan was one of the most boring RE characters ever, in my opinion atleast
@@StevenDavies-rf2wi 1000% agree. I'm glad he's died lowkey. dude had the personality of a sponge
Amazing video! Hope this blows up!
Been waiting on this one
The retrospectives’ are awesome, can’t wait for the rest of the retrospectives of the RE’s to cone out
Keep, calm am keep retrospective’ing on🎉
15:12 the change of music made me spit out my cereal
Amazing!
One of my favorites in the series. The soundtrack is also quite good. Good video :).
Wooo new WT video essayyy!!!
It was about time 😍 😍
44:04, This tyrant was manufactured especially for military training it's for that reason they decided to modify his arms to something less lethal
You earned a sub from me man, great video
Dude is learning how to write a script. Good job. Been watching your resident evil play list. And is great to see someone improve👍
I've never had to restart a game so many times before reaching the end! I played through it like 9 times, each time trying conserve more firepower and health for later. But it was still worth the challenge! Fun game
Actually he didn't call her fat. He said she's heavier then she looks. Like she doesn't look heavy (fat)
3:53 so she ends up captured because she ran out of ammo. you can see the reciever pulled back and locked in place as the magazine has ran dry. they both know shes out of ammo (Thought i wouldnt put it past RE writers to have claire try to fight her way out of a handgun in her face when she has no ammo anyway. They've already done more ridiculous moves in just the half minute prior)
That makes sense visually, but I don't know why we only see her fire one shot. Unless they are implying Claire came in with one round, or capped some goons before the moment we see.
She fired a few shots at the fuel tanks, and most likely fired the rest at security getting in, etc...either way yeah shes out of ammo lol
she’s supposed to fight after running out of ammo when the black dude clearly has the upper hand on her , she’s literally on the ground.
Rad video, Witch
I’m pretty sure Rodrigo isn’t “black” but rather Hispanic.
I love all your Resident Evil retrospectives, as usual, a great video. I made sure my friends knew this came out, so they'll watch it too!
Those f**king moths killed it for me granted you get free blue herbs in the room they are in but the constant respawning just p*ssed me off anytime that poisonous cum dust attack hit me 🙄 I be like here we go again.....lovely
hes Puerto Rican, not an Af 4:25
29:28 that dolphin laugh though. Haha
I can’t unhear the sonic impression comment omg
In defense of Steve, he's a 17 year old kid, with no life experience, feel its a little bit harsh to get mad at him. I couldn't, since he's literally just Tidus from FFX whole sale. I didn't mind him, is sad he died. But Capcom can't let Leon have even imagined competition for Claire's heart. (Despite them having no real chemistry either.)
Code Veronica is one of my favorites behind the original. I own all versions but the Dreamcast stands as my favorite way to experience it. VMU status, and switching between two discs, the whole experience stands strong in my memories.
My favorite Dreamcast game behind power stone.
Music in this game is simply outstanding, it actually saved the scene where Steve died, making it somewhat sad. Anyways, I never felt that it was about "feelings" more so that Claire viewed Steve like a silly younger brother. He got such dorky voice and lame lines.. yeah, a kid basically. Claire looks much more mature and capable.
finally someone say that it is a sibling dynamic and the music does make steves death an objectively good scene
Awesome Video. Great Job. Resident Evil Code Veronica X is one of my favorite old school resident evil games. This Game needs a remake.
15:02 "What was that all about?" Was that their best take?
I finished Code Veronica yesterday for the first time ever and I surprisingly enjoyed this game! Sure, I played it on easy because I've heard about its difficulty but despite a lot of backtracking and annoying locations (like the little passage with moths) I had a really good time with it. The story was interesting, characters were goofy in a positive way and it was the classic RE experience that I love so much. I don't think I will replay it again because it's not as replay-friendly like the first three RE games but still, it was a great game!
I remember when I first moved to England, bought a ps2 and was like ‘holy crap, there’s another RE game?!’ (I only knew the original three and Survivor which we shall not speak of.) the mix of oldschool mechanics and updated graphics was awesome, really enjoyed it.
How do you play it on easy? I'm playing it on PS4 and there's no difficulty setting
@@NukaCola514 I played the GameCube version on emulator and there I could use a cheat to change the difficulty as originally this option is only available on certain version, Japanese I think?
This should've been remade over re4
Dude I love your thumbnail
If you got a copy of resident evil code Veronica at the time it came out new atrelease for the Sega Dreamcast, you were set!!
Aside from Shenmue, one of the first and truly next generation experiences that year and it was phenomenal!!
It is the resident evil that I feel Most deserves the remake treatment being as it is the last game in the “true survival horror style format“ and as such it is a no-brainer?!?!
The true survival horror of the first three games and code Veronica, in my opinion have always been what “real RE” it is all about!! Sure, I like the third person over the shoulder more action oriented games like the resident evil two remake, but I can only play those games and beat them a couple times and then I am bored, whereas the original games I can run through those hundreds of times over and get enjoyment each time out of trying to get better and better at my run..
I grew up with the originals, what can I say?!
Did you just forget about RE 0? That's the last true survival horror game. Also you can have a preference, that's totally fine, but the reasoning of "I can get better with each run" can also be applied to the third person games.
@@antelasic1950 Yeah RE0 he did forget to mention, but the new remakes aren't nearly as compelling, charming, or fun as the originals. RE4R is fun don't get me wrong, but it's nowhere near as good as og RE4. RE1R is the only one that is literally better than the original.
And don't even get me started on how garbage that dogwater remake of 3 is.
I never thought i would get second hand embarrasment from a video game character....
Way to go steve!
Is there a reason why you repeatedly (and incorrectly) refer to Rodrigo as black
For real was just thinking the same thing
I kinda feel like I played true cannon. RE1 og when I was a kid. I would watch my moms boyfriends buddy chuck play the first one and then eventually doing it myself. RE2 shortly after that I no longer had to sneak playing resident evil games lol. Then for my 11th Bday I got code veronica x plus the strategy guide.
then a year or 2 later grandma got me re3 which I had no idea existed in my child state lol
Great video on the most ICONIC entry in the RE game. Deserves a decent remake. Alexia is a great villain, and also Alfred, to be honest. It has my favorite plot, though gameplay is weird sometimes.
I don't think you know what iconic means. This is one of the most overlooked of the original series.
It does have huge potential for a sequel tho.
Just so you know - 1. There are loads of great games that weren't ported from the dreamcast - illbleed is a good example.
2. Code Veronica X was just a port of the special edition for the japanese dreamcast which has all the changes although doesn't have the ps3 lighting etc.
True.
Also, points for knowing The Dreamcast has both versions.
The moths were the worst. Hardest resident evil still to this day. Awesome game
Alfred's voice always reminded me of Cosmo from the early episodes of Fairly Odd Parents
I am not normally a knit picker but the whole “I love you Claire, even though I’ve known you for like a day” cliche was dumb
FINALLY, someone else who also thinks that whole thing was fucking stupid. Like, they only knew each other for a day; maybe even LESS than that. It's so fucking stupid!
Alfred’s laugh reminds me of Franny from Studio C
If they decide to do a remake I hope it doesn’t get the RE3R treatment. It’s a shame really this could make a really good remake as 3 could have.
Wouldve been way cooler to have Goblin Steve live, stay with his senses, and idk becomes a BSAA agent with Chris.
Mercenaries mode Goblin Steve?
She got captured because she had no ammo
Yeaaaaa❤
I made it to the fight with Steve a long time ago. The game took WEEKS to figure out. Not only did I make it this far only to not to have enough ammo, but I didn't have it in me to care anymore. To me this game is OKAY but Id rather play the first three games or Outbreak.
Steve was like FATHERRRR!!! and start spraying the hella out of those guns. Meanwhile Claire also ate a bunch of lead there as well.. lol rip
my brother in Christos Rodrigo is literally latin
You can do a great Paul Lynde impression.
Talk about *difficult* this game is the only RE game that frustrated me into quitting! I was only a child 😩
so I’m hoping to avenge myself with a CVX REMAKE.
1:19:07 Well, no. It's called trauma bonding, bro. There are various kinds of conditions related to that, like Florence Nightinggale Effect, among others. The Helsinkiu Syndrom where hostages fall in love with their captors. It's been a high stress, life and death situation. Claire could very easily have had VERY strong feelings for Steve by the time he died.
You mean "Stockholm Syndrome"?
But then why did the same not happen with her and Leon in an arguably more stressful situation since in 2 that was all new for here, whereas here she's already been through a similar situation already.
@@antelasic1950 Because Ada existing and Leon not dying lmao
Bemoaning throughout this so much paints you like a real Steve
What did Steve Burnside give his dad for Father’s Day? 2 mags of lead 😂
Nice...
Is Claire Redfield Jubilee from the 90’s X-Men show because she sounds almost exactly like her
The heart beat isn’t suppose to scare you. It’s supposed to let the player know he or she is going in the right direction.
Ok, they still could have just added the sound over the normal door animation and not make it 3 times longer. Besides the other games never needed this to keep players on track. Also, how does that even make sense for scenes like the door before the Tyrant on the plane. There's only one way to go! You literally can't go in the wrong direction.
@@antelasic1950 because the tyrant fight is on the plane ✈️ you can’t get lost when you only have one door to go open. it’s meant to show the player they’re on the right direction when you have to back track. When it’s unclear of what to do. One of the criticisms of this game is people didn’t know what to do. Or where to go next. Even more so than the previous games you mention, and even those games fell under the same criticism. Hence why they added it. Same With GOD Of War….. they would add enemies to show you, you’re on the right direction. By this time gamepro and strategy guides were all but done for and people could use the internet to find out.
the count of lemongrab from adventure time reminds me of Alfred.
When I was young I couldnt figure it out, took me 12 years later but was a good game enough
"starting part two" soon after I got this part of the game.. as i'm running around the cold lab, the game froze while I was playing it.
nothing happened had to hard reset the game. Then I found that the save file got corrupt.
After that, I didn't bother restarting the game, gave up playing, and then later found out the rest of the game.
Sad that the black guy dies though. Anyway, that sucked for me. I wonder if that was common on the PS2 port of the game that the game was prone to freeze during the antarctic area.
i liked this video.
That thumbnail though :0
maybe the Bandersnatch was destroyed by the Decontamination or it escaped through the shutter to the area we firstly meet them. Like maybe Alfred let it out. When replaying this game I originally thought the Albinoids killed that Scientist but replaying it I saw a Bandersnatch & just guessed the one you kill in the training centre was the same one that killed the scientist but upon seeing there is no other exit it does seem odd but you can make a few weak guesses.
Edit: 1:11:48 damn that part it made me question should I restart when I was so close to the end but had barely any ammo or health to try & do the Alexia boss fight so I gave up & restarted (I also forgot the damn Fire extinguisher) It made me quite the game for so long till I realised something I think I commented on another one of these reviews about the d-pad making tank controls so much more easy but that still made me take up like an hour to do it as I'd keep dying to the stone as at first I remembered to you know run under it & back but I was getting confused by controls of the PS1 game Resident evil 3 Nemesis & it where the run button on that was now my attack & pick up button. my inventory was now the pause button & all this lead to that part taking forever but once I finished I had to deal with mister Steve a few times but once I beat him it felt amazing just to finally see him die meaning no more trouble. Then I realised I'd no health Items & had doomed Chris without the grenade launcher so I just restarted it.
1:31:45
Steve's dad is Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising Revegeance?
HELOP
Dude why did you use emulated at higher res footage for the psx resis? Talk about unfair comparison . In reality those games render at 240p while cv is 480p. over twice the res. yet if you watched your footasage youd think psx resi's rendered at higher than CV.
Love this game. Sadly if you play this on ps4 hope you have night vision goggles coz those darker areas are literally pitch black at times. Might just be my moniter but I can't find a way to increase brightness correctly
I died on the concrete slab on my A rank run. That was fun
Great video, but this game was never supossed to be the true Resident Evil 3
Incorrect. The sequel to re2 was being developed for dreamcast, while a spin off story was being developed for Playstation. Code Veronica was promoted as the sequel to re2, but Sony made a deal with Capcom for the rights to the title "resident evil 3". Since the move to the newer, more powerful consoles was inevitable, they pushed the release date for CV from late 1999 to early 2000.
Code Veronica was originally intended to be the true sequel, and is still referred as such be the creators
@@NicePantsLance stop spreading this information
@@NicePantsLance No it isn't. This has been debunked multiple times now. Thay were both originally spin offs. The real 3 was a game Kamiya worked on that was canceled due to being to early in development for the ps1 when the ps2 was coming out.
IT'S HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERE
22:28 Steve is suffering
Still love that game
21:01 I can't tell because of the low quality if this is real or game, and I can't find any sources confirming or denying, but if it's real, I really wish I didn't see that.
You mean the dragonfly and the ants? How does that look even remotely real? And why would they mix real footage with clearly CGI people (Alfred and Alexia).
Why does Chris' hair get all spikey in the end cutscene? That's a total continuity error, and where'd he get the gel? 0/10.
That's what it meant to look in game. The CGI models for the prerendered cutscenes are always more detailed, the in game models can't display that level of detail.
rodrigo juan raval isnt black my guy hes obviously south american/latino
Needs a remake. There's a lot to work with here. I remember the Tyrant fight on the plane, and Alexia, giving me serious trouble back in the day.
The Dreamcast Face 😂
Alexia's first form when she's in her bug mountain mode is easy... Explosive arrows, it takes less than thirty seconds
3:54 the cutscene shows that her guns empty and his is not.
21:52 - read my mind 😂
one pf those resident evil games that have good jump scares but at the time people are still afraid of playing horror ganes. maybe if code veronica was release with current graphics technology and amp it up. it will be loved by ganers who likes the scare like outlast
I missed so many items in this game lmao 🤣
CV need a HARD REMAKE. Good retrospective.
Better the RE3?! I mean it is subjective but 3 had a lot more gameplay editions while Veronica just has regressions.
It's still a very good video but some things worth pointing out. CV was never meant to be RE3. Both CV and Nemesis were both spin offs originally, just because one wasn't supposed to be 3 originally doesn't mean the other was. Actually the real 3 was a game Kamiya worked on that was canceled because it would come out after the PS2 so they then had him develop RE4 while a game closer to completion was made into RE3. And honestly Nemesis deserves it more than CV. It felt like it added a lot more to the gameplay then CV did, and what CV did add wasn't necessarily good (like 3D environments).
But to also defend the game a bit, I think a lot of the issues aren't as bad as people say. The tyrant on the plane is only a problem if you rushed through everything and didn't pick up some slightly hidden ammo, but you also fought everything in your path since even without the extra ammo you should have enough if you evade enemies. But if you did that one would assume you'd have extra healing items since if you attacked everything to be safe you shouldn't have used herbs that much, so you can either spam healing items and use the knife or stall and kill him with several catapult shots alone.
Actually most bosses one hit moves aren't that bad. Especially with the checkpoints. And Alexia's third form can be melted with the gun powder bolts. Also the method to dodge Steve is really easy to do. To get through it with no damage you need to be almost perfect, but if you come in with full health you can easily get away with only one hit.
Lastly the trap before Steve has really generous timing (at least on dreamcast, not sure if they made it worse in other versions.). I never had a problem running from one side to the other or dropping and picking up the card. And the fire extinguisher is a mistake on the players end. In RE the second an item is not needed the game tells you so and gets rid of it. Since it never does that here you should assume it will be useful later.
I want a Code Veronica remake so bad after RE4 got announced, but I understand why there may be some hesitation from Capcom when it comes to the story and incorporating it into the timeline of the main new canon of the series. I feel like they could really breathe new life into the Ashford family and make them really interesting characters. I already find Alexia to be an awesome villain but at time Alfred felt so goofy. Same with Steve of course, but I also feel that he could be made to be a very fun character with lots of depth that CV at the time wasn’t able to fully capture.
🎉
