What Made Resident Evil: Code Veronica One Hell of A Game?

- Arguably the truest sequel to Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil - Code: Veronica bares all the hallmarks of classic, quintessential Resident Evil, and whilst its notoriety has risen in recent years it’s a shame it’s been largely forgotten.
- Hry
Code veronica was my first resident evil game. It will always hold a special place in my heart.
Resident evil directors cut for ps1 was my first. Held a special place in my heart until I played resident evil 5. Funnest resident evil ever until I played resident evil 3 remake. Nemesis is the greatest stalker/villain in any resident evil to me.
It's one of my favorite RE games.
I loved it. One of my favourites. The knive is overpowered, but actually _love_ it for that, get close a personal slashing zombies and saving bucket loads of regular ammo. And the insane backtracking made me really excited to finally open those secret doors at the back of my mind.
Same bro, on the ps2 🔥
I remember being stuck for the longest time in the first section of the game with the duplicate emblem. Remember running around for hours, until I realized i just needed to inspect the briefcase haha
Ugh the puzzle with pictures had me stuck. I feel you bro
Same! I searched that whole prison for so long haha
I love how much attention Code Veronica has been getting ever since Capcom skipped over remaking it in favor of Resident Evil 4. This has always been one of my favorite entries in the series and have never understood why some dislike it.
I finally completed playing first round of this game yesterday on a PS4, even though I had got PS2 and Gamecube versions of this game at 2000s already, and this downloadable version on PS4 had been bought for at least 4 years. I found this game is really unfriendly for a new fan, I gave up twice at the first scene, and never arrived at Training Facility scene during the past twenty years. Lack of supply and too many zombies at first scene made it die easily, with the too long and complex routes for solving puzzle, I have to control my temper to continue. I have been a Resident Evil fan since it was called Biohazard and I know how good reputation of this game have, but I can also understand why some people dislike Code Veronica.
@@michaell2248 It can definitely be unforgiving for first time players, but I'll never forget the immense satisfaction I felt when upon completing it for the first time.
I don't dislike it, I'm frustrated by the fact that I can't love this game...
I had fascination with this game since my childhood despite not playing it until lot later.
I'm a huge fan of og trilogy and despite being a fan of RE4 and playing through it numerous times, that game always felt like an actual spin off to me. CV was always essential part of the quadrology imo.
But the game is not that good unfortunately.
I love the fact that continues story of Claire and that Alyson Court returned to voice her, I love atmosphere, soundtrack is amazing too, however... This game is painful to play sometimes.
Like many people have pointed out already, puzzles can be beyond absurd, like you have to constantly return to areas you assume you've already finished, and it gets really tiresome.
Way game switches between Chris and Claire was weird, I expected that it would work similarly like in RE2,
where each disc has each character's campaign on it, rather than everything being part of one continuous playthrough,
which would be fine I guess if there was no weird inventory sharing mechanic...
I also think that this game is really hard, I always ended up getting out of ammo and out of herbs too soon.
It also can be very cheap, for example, you can enter a room for the first time, and just out of nowhere new type of stretchy enemy will hit you from different part of the room with its elastic arm, but you won't see it coming because of way RE camera works, and no sound effect to know that enemy is in the room.
I also remember section where you play with Chris, and there was that door you get outside in that area near the tank, and moment doors open, two hunters start running into your direction, you have split second to react, enemies usually don't work that way in RE games, they have their own preprogramed paths, and reaction animation when they detect you, but in this case once you open that door you're most likely getting hit. First time I've played the game I legit thought how that was some sort of cutscene.
Then there's that moth corridor... Why the enemies constantly respawn? Why they decided to break the rule of dead enemies not respawning for this section.
Next to that corridor is that huge room, which is empty first time you enter, but later on it's filled with bunch of zombies all of the sudden, it's not like they've been lying down and reanimated in the meantime, rather they appear out of nowhere to surprise you, but it ends up being a cheap move.
Speaking of cheapness, lets not forget boss fights, I legit needed to get so good and play that fight for hours so I could beat first Tyrant with knife, because I've wasted all of my ammo on him, and I had solid amount before entering that plane. There was no chance in hell that I would restart whole game, but I was really close to doing it. Then there is Steve monster, I'm convinced that you can't beat him without getting hit, same thing with final boss...
Story is also ridiculous and all over the place. I can recap story of first three games in one sentence, same cannot be said about Code Veronica.
All in all, I don't hate this game, I just don't understand people calling it GREAT, when there are games like 2 and 3 that are actually great, and that I could play all the time, while CV feels more like a chore.
@@michaell2248 Resident Evil is still called Biohazard lol. That's how series is called in Japan.
@@Dembilajain South Korea too ))
Can’t wait for the remake of this
Me too Sir
Erm, keep waiting.. :)
@@MorrisseyMuse Right Sir
This and the resident evil 5 remake would be insane.
YES SIR!!!! Screaming from North Carolina. This is my favorite Resident Evil
I love CV because I am die hard Claire Redfield fan and also it is my childhood game. My brother used to play it on PS2 when I was a kid while I watched and he tries to hand me the controller during the scariest part and then I'll get scared XD Great times.
This is one of my top 3 resident evil game just because it had one of the most important things in ANY resident evil games it had plenty of puzzles and key item you needed to get though areas, door and puzzles to even today code Veronica still has the most puzzles to date and it was a pretty long game to.
This is my favorite RE game, it felt like a true successor to RE2 sadly many people dislike it
People only disliked it because it was hard and people sucked at it, it was one of the best of the series
I honestly wanted a remake of this over RE4 ... I hope Capcom going straight to 4 doesn't mean they'll just skip Code Veronica. After Leon, it's Claire's time to shine!
The voice acting made this one truly great.
Lmfao 😂
“FATHER!!!!!”
This game has been overlooked so bad even when it released. I didn’t have a Dreamcast back then and I wanted one so bad because of Code Veronica. I was ecstatic when I knew it was gonna be for PS2. I played the hell out of it and continue to do so til this day. One of the best installments imo. I love Claire and I wish we can get more of her in the future. I would love a remake of Code Veronica
I remember playing CV when I was young and struggling so hard lol. It felt good going back and playing CVX as an adult and seeing the game through to the end.
Still hoping for a remake resident evil of code Veronica
There will be after RE4Remake.
@@rumuelnathanael8043 i certainly hope so but we shall see.
@@TevyaSmolka
It will be remade Capcom shutdown the fan remake of RE:CV just like when they shutdown the fan remake of RE2 years ago & not long after they made RE2 remake.
@@PerceptionVsReality333 i had no idea that happened.
I love this game. I love the graphics, the character models, everything. I can never get tired of the classic RE style.
Code Veronica was one of the games in the series to give me a real wow and shock factor. The bosses and story design were so well done. They tied up ends and really entrenched you in the lore. The game, as I remember, was long but kept you entertained throughout with tyrants chasing you plenty of collectable and puzzles. Plus the map and number of locations for the time was huge! Then the moment when you're on the plane thinking you got away with it all. Only for the plane to crash in an arctic environment. That moment was just as good as the castle flipping in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Drawing you back in for more of a great game. This game deserved it more than RE4. To me RE4 felt more like a spin off than a continuation of the franchise. Still a great game, but a candle to the sun that was Code Veronica. Please Capcom. Hear my plea. And also...take my money. ❤
Yh re4 shit cvx masterpiece
I find this game to be more of a comedy than survival horror. That's what I remember most of this game, the cheesy dialogue and cliche, matrix sequences.
I love how camp it is! But that's the problem, people act like Re4 started some of the silly action stuff when CVX is full of it.
That's Resident Evil in a nutshell. Horror and B-Movie cheese.
They were all a comedy. None of them were overly serious or even scary. It's what made resident evil so great and why I don't like this new serious direction they're going in
Had this on the dreamcast and it ended up becoming my 2nd favorite Resident Evil Game behind Resident Evil 2. Great and frustrating as hell memories playing on the dreamcast with the crazy controller it had lol.
A remake of this, Onimusha and Dino Crisis would be awesome. Capcom, are you reading this?!
That boss fight with the tyrant on the plane used to do my head in soooooo much!!!
They better remake this
First Resident Evil I beat. I think it has the best story in the series. And, that’s when Claire became my favorite.
Code Veronica is one of my favourite Resident Evil games. I hope someday Capcom will update it with at least a Remaster
As good as the RE4 Remake demo is, I would have preferred a Code Veronica remake prior to RE4.
It's now looked upon as the red headed step child, yet still ranks among my top 5 RE games.
Really frustrated why they don't get remake this !!!
Probably cause Resident Evil 4 is more popular.
@Arturo Olivo ya true, hoping after the RE4 Remake released, capcom will reconsider this code veronica remake project next !!!!!!
They will but it's going to be awhile.
Even though we may not get a modern remake, but we still can play this classic survival horror game on the PS4.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X HD is also on PS3 digitally.
Resident Evil Code Veronica was an absolutely amazing game for its time and still holds up today.
I really do think this may end up getting a remake for 2024, we got a remake game on Leon coming out, Next we get to see the Redfields get their game reimagined
They could do an excellent remake of Code: Veronica. I know they can do it after seeing RE4 remake, but I am not sure if they would be able to keep the original content intact. Mainly Alfred…because we live in stupid times.
For me, It should have been THE Resident Evil 3
My personal favorite Resident Evil game! I hope it gets the full remake treatment!
A very underrated RE title. I’d hope to see a remake, but looks like it’ll be a while if at all.
I played this for the first time in 2022 and had a great time - albeit with a few deaths due to running the wrong way at first as I adjusted to the controls 😅
I have every Resident Evil games that were remastered on PS4/PS5 this one and Outbreak are the ones I am waiting for!
One of the few games I left alone for the intro to play out 👌
Code Veronica X on the PS2 introduced me to DMC. For that simple fact, it deserves existence.
Capcom you have a big bag of money with Veronica, just do the thing and nobody from your employees dies (just joking about employees)
The last game that needs the remake treatment. And then move forward to RE9 and RE-X
RE9 I’m pretty sure will come out before code Veronica remake if capcom does decide to remake it.
They should define remake this as it's a good setup for Chris in RE5. Even if it's just a DLC for Re4 or Re5. Anything. The lore in this game is huge.
NEED A REMAKE OF THIS AND CANT WAIT FOR RE4 REMAKE NEXT WEEK OMG IT LOOKS FREAKIN AMAZING!!!
Can we get a Remaster of this for PC and consoles?
Other than Steve Burnside, everything in this game was awesome.
I have great memory with this game back in the PS2 year
This should definitely get a remake, and so should the first resident evil game. Like I know that Resident Evil 1 already haves a remake, but I would like a remake on the Re Engine because it would like absolutely amazing. And plus I don't think I can play it after playing the Resident Evil 2 Remake, and I don't like the fixed over the top camera angles.
We need a remake of this
My favourite Resident Evil, my favoroute story, my favourite soundtrack. My most anticipated candidate for a remake 🙏
Definitely one of if not the best, that sweet spot between classic and modern. I really don't mind the lack of popularity, yet I guess it's a symbol of why the franchise went all to fluff with those mindsets leading the majority. 1 , 2, this CV, Zero... Each one more challenging than the last , 4 was the beautiful fun party into the sunset and in a way the franchise rode away with Leon on that jet ski never to be seen again RIP Capcom . Remakes
I've just played through it again, such an amazing game! Capcom really to to remake though!
Had this on Dreamcast and loved it
Bought it day one on the dreamcast. I must have played the intro a billion times lol
I would love to see you @ Gamebolt put a Pirates of the Caribbean Remake as well as a Dantes Inferno Remake for The Playstation 5 and New Genaration Consoles.
They need to remake this after 4. And then remake 5 too.
We NEED a remake of this. UGH
It will happen . They said the same thing for RE4 ppl desperately wanted boom they made one. Code Veronica next for sure.
Steve gunning down that bandersnatch, it always makes me laugh lol
It's better than RE4 in some ways. The *Most Underrated* RE game of all time.
In Veronica's code remake, I would like: 1. T-78 to be like Mr. X from the second remake. 2. two companies: clair and chris. 3. steve will walk with us like louis from the fourth remake
I owned a dreamcast. This game was great.
And i kind of miss the controllers.
Hi Gaming Bolt I Hope This Game Will Be Made In The Future
I was shocked at the plot twist. Alexia being dead and was one of Alfred's personality disorders. It was nice seeing Wesker there as well, i like Steve, i barely got out of the island so i have no idea what awaits for me later in the game. I've played almost every Resident Evil game from 0 all the way through its remakes and all the way through 8 and i love the franchise with the og Resident Evil 4 being my first Resident Evil game I've ever played it still has a special place in my heart. I'm just wondering what are Capcom gonna do next? A Re5 remake? A Re9 game? How will they end the series? Who knows, i guess I'll see why everyone is talking about this game and see what's all the hype about.
Resident Evil Code Veronica was definitely necessary an one of my favorites!!
Finally, code Veronica getting the love and respect it deserves. I've always considered it to be a mainline entry and I just hope Capcom wisens up remakes it. Resident evil 4 didn't even need a remake yet but code Veronica would be awesome.
Yea I thought that 2 until I seen the remake of 4
@@versatyledc I played the chainsaw demo and I know I am in the minority but I never liked re4. I was stubborn and liked fixed camera angles and I just thought that they changed the whole vibe and made it an action game and not survival horror and I hated having Ashley or any game with an AI partner I have to escort so I really resented 4 because I thought it ruined my favorite series. I know its loved and it's over the shoulder camera was highly influential but I still don't like 4 and I'm skipping the remake. It looks good visually but that demo brought back all the reasons why I disliked 4 in the first place but I get it I'm in a small minority and I fault no one for liking it. I honestly like tormented souls better than any resident ever released since code Veronica. Same with Gow and devil may cry. I love the old ones but I hate the removal of fixed camera angles so I dislike the new ones. I'm old school I guess.
@@BaxBoogey22 I think 4 was a much needed change to a franchise that was beginning to feel stale. RE1,RE2,RE3,RE0,RE1 remake, and Code Veronica all had fixed camera angles so it was nice for me to see them switch it up for once. I feel RE4 masterfully reinvented the series and it did it so well that 5 and 6 just couldn’t match it and just felt out of place but I understand that you like the traditional style of it and there is nothing wrong with that
@@BaxBoogey22 Code Veronica is ass
Code Veronica deserves a remake even though it probably wouldn't come out till after Resident Evil 4 Remake gets released. I played it on PS4 and it doesn't really hold up well though it was my first experience with Resident Evil back on PS2 so it holds a huge place in my heart. If Capcom can make The Tyrant be like The Nemesis in RE Remake 3 and expand on Steve's backstory with his father and better voice acting, graphics, etc then I would buy Code Veronica again.
I wish Code Veronica was remade called Resident Evil Code Veronica and having the V in veronica look like a roman five.
If re4 remake does as well as I think it will Capcom will have no excuse to remake CVX
one of the best RE !!! I remember the scene where you must run fast so that youo uwill not get squashed b a falling ball .
Glad someone is speaking FOR this game!
Best installment of the series along with RE2 OG
I want this remake I just dont want capcom to change anything
when I played this back in the day, I was gonna look up the final code than I tried Veronica
Hope they do this remake before 5
How is Code Veronica forgotten? People can't stop yapping about it.
the fact that re 4 is getting a remake before this game
Underrated. Best game of the series. True sequel to 2.
got it the first day it came out on the Sega dreamcast.
CV was never at any time meant to be RE3.
very underrated.
Code Veronica is the second highest rated Resident Evil game of all times in Metacritic it shouldn't be left without its Remake just because it's too long for lazy Capcom to Remake
I wouldn't call Capcom lazy. They are on a roll right now.
@@JugglernautNr9 they are but they were lazy with RE3RE wich im sour abt and i have seen some things i don't appreciate already in the RE4RE leaks (nothing major but im worried atm)
This was an incredible game. Loved RE 1. 2 and 3 were just the same game with way too much back tracking and repetition. This was a great comeback.
I'm praying they remake this. It's cannon, follows Claires story directly following RE2. And was easily a lot more dated and clunky compared to RE4. Capcom could flush out the story and make it flow a lot better. If anything, this game should get the "capcom cut" as compared to the changes they made in the RE3 remake.
Also, a RE1+RE0 remake in the modern RE engine would rule. And let's not forget Dino Crisis!
This game was damn near perfect
Steve is fine. His original voice is crap at the very least. Good thing Darkside Chronicles redeemed him
My favourite Resi. Curse Capcom Eternally for skipping over this game man!😩
Ah what a classic
Wow what can i say about the game well it was the first game i bought when I first purchased my PS2 with memory card 😉 and well I enjoyed it it’s got it’s challenging parts it’s about as old school resident evil game play your gonna get i miss the real formula survival horror these games had i wish they went back to it and leave the whole GUN fighting Action game play it’s become now👎🏼 RE 1/2/3 are still the best in my Book aaah the memories and hours of A+ rating unlocking everything the game had to offer how i miss the good ole days of Resident Evil’s ❤✌🏼
Ashford would be "problematic" today. They aren't touching this game
I really hope Capcom gives us a remake of this game with 0,1,5,6 🤞🏼. Can you buy resident evil code Veronica on pc?
Steve was awesome
This needs to be remade after RE4.
CV or 5 or both. Plz be both. I never beat CV but I remember my friends older brother being on the boss fight
This was my FIRST RE game
Had it bought for me in early spring of 2002 & since it was my very first I didn't know WTF to do
I was only 4 & not knowing how to equip the lighter in the jail cell sequence to proceed the game took me 40 minutes
I could of had the game returned but I didn't...I pushed through & by force I managed to Speedrun Claire's entire first section up before fighting nosferatu as a 4 year old
RE4'S remake has me somewhat pleased but nothing will compare WHEN CV gets an official announcement & teaser trailer
Only then I'll understand the excitement people had towards RE4'S remake announcement teaser trailer
I must of apeedran Claire's entire run up until Chris's 50+ times since I never could beat the game in 1 go like the other entries
Nice story, but there’s no fucking way you played Code Veronica at 4 let alone beat it at that age. Hell, I was 4 when RE2 released, and I can tell you right now… my memories of 1998 are almost nonexistent, like a distant fever dream. There’s no way you vividly remember 2002.
@@artusanctus997 I overplayed the game since I was too frustrated I couldn't beat it because of its mechanics & puzzles
But it took me months to finally get the run down to an "adequate" level
Because if I can recall there was a GameStop magazine promo for RE0 right around early November 2002 & I assume I had Claire's first half of the campaign down by that point
(you can look it up)
The game was bought for me around June of 2002 & by November of thatsame year I got the run down
But I was very persistent
The one game that never got a PC port. hence, it needs a remake the most.
Ideally they remake it next, to try to bridge the story to RE4
I want a remake of this and re1 in the new style of re4 but mansion would have to swarmed with zombies and creatures
Capcom RE:Code Veronica remake next 🙏
Its only a matter of time before capcom remakes code veronica. The remakes do very well sales wise and capcom knows this, they know the fans want remakes and capcom executives know they are profitable so naturally they will remake it because in the end capcom makes money and fans get what they want. Everyone wins.
Code Veronica ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Un remake plus jolie que l’original et l’histoire le même
I miss the old Resident Evils with fixed camera angles and tank controls. The new first person resident evil and over the shoulder games aren't really for me. It's hard to be terrified of something when it's in plain sight. Capcom compensated for this by making the zombies soak up more damage and having that annoying Mr. X follow you excessively. Give me 1998 RE any day.
Yup.
I really want them to fix resident evil 6. Make it fit better into the series and be scary.
But wouldn't be against them remaking these side entries. Love resident evil!
CV needs a remake!
code veronica is the hardest game I ever played in the series
I'm just saying at this Point we get A remake of Resident Evil 5 and A remake of Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil "Director s Cut" before Capcom would ever even consider touching Code V if that actually happens that's anther 5 to 10 years before we could ask Capcom for Code V again . I just want to play it In VR as A 3D Interactive Diarama.
I don't know how they handle the ongoing story in the remake of 4, but I'm sure hoping that it doesn't just dump the Umbrella plotline like the original 4 did. They're too iconic.
Also, 2 remake re-established Claire looking for Chris, and Chris being in Europe, so they'll have to resolve that for all the newcomers to the series. I would love a remake of Code Veronica ironically because I don't like Code Veronica very much, but can see a lot of potential there. I would love to see how much more I like it with a visual upgrade (I also never liked that weird missing link look that Code Veronica had between the PS1-style, and the Gamecube-style). I would also like to see how much more I would enjoy the game if Steve and Alfred just weren't written and executed in such a cringe fashion.
My second resident evil game. All i can say this was hard 😂
