Hey Eta! You asked about the Droid Army using a manned Tank in the form of the AAT. It should be noted that the CIS did have several completely autonomous droid tanks, such as the Snail Tank The NR-N99 Persuader, as well as several heavy walkers and even autonomous artillery droids in the form of the J-1. The reason that the AAT is a manned vehicle rather than being autonomous is it was designed to be operable by the sentient species forces of the CIS and originally Trade Federation. Though the CIS was primarily a droid force, there were several auxiliary and conglomerate forces that assisted in the combat efforts, the most obvious being the Umbarans from the Umbara arc in the Clone Wars TV series. Thus, the AAT allows for all CIS operators to utilize. And yes, B1's really are expendable enough to be able to man ships, vehicles, fighter craft etc.

Also, the B1 droids are used originally as shipbourne and port security forces, not combat units.
The Trade Federation had no need for tanks before the invasion of Naboo, so makes sense theyr decision of buying available materials, such as AAT, that were manufactured in mass and sold to be used by security forces all around the galaxy. Just reprograming the droids to pilot them and they have a tank force.
Only after the preparations for the Clone Wars begun they started to produce autonomous tanks.
The automomous figthers were already used because of piracy. They had an utility for protection of TF's assets.

About concussion grenades: The question would be if they are "stun grenades", something perhaps more aking to a flashbang, or HE grenades, that rely on the explosive force and conussion to kill instead of fragmentation (also called offensive grenades as they are much safer to throw for infantry that's not in cover, with the German Stick Grenade being the most famous example)

I think the big problem with most walkers is that they are designed with only two legs. Balancing on two legs is difficult after all and requires insane programing and engineering just to keep from tipping over. Not only that but we humans, despite our efforts, fall over sometimes and cannot catch our fall without our arms.
I think the most plausible type of mech we would see is something like the *Stalker* from the Resistance Series. It has four legs allowing it to balance much easier as well as distributing its weight a lot better. Plus, it is less likely to tip over since a four-legged bug like configuration basically makes the legs also act as arms when the vehicle loses balance.
I highly suggest looking up the Stalker from Resistance: Fall of Man as you will see what I mean better that way.

24:04 The reason why the AAT has a crew is that this tank and most of the Trade Federation's stuff has been driven by the humanoid crew. Before the Clone War, all of their planes, tanks, and spaceships had been operated by the live crew. Even their infantry units consisted of living humanoids.
Also, in the war period, they still had some live crews and stuff, but they were much less common.
That's why this tank still has room for a crew. And stuffing several cheap robots with tank crew protocols into a tank is much cheaper and easier than almost completely automating a combat vehicle.

In the case of the TX-130 and AAT tanks it’s important to note that Clones were expensive and took longer to train unlike a B1 where tons can be made while one clone is busy having lunch.
The CIS had more droids it ever needed, they were also expendable and a whole army could be made in less than a month. Because there was always a surplus of them is made perfect sense to have an large variety of droids doing different tasks. An AAT with a large crew was over anything too fancy was just because the CIS Army was made and maintained by a corporation that wanted to save money and be cheap. Otherwise the Commando Droid would’ve been standard issue.
The Republic meanwhile was at times forced to train ground troops as pilots because they just didn’t have the numbers. So a TX-130 having only needing a crew of 1 makes perfect sense.

The TX-130 has a few particularly lethal tactics that I learned while playing. They almost all involved blitzing up to an objective.
One particular strategy that I was fond of: you begin to load a full barrage of missiles as the tank moves up to the objective at full speed. Then fire the multi-laser ability as a suppression weapon. Once you reach the objective or a spot overlooking it, you unleash the barrage of missiles. If you time it perfectly you fire 8 missiles in just under 2 seconds. Match this attack with infantry and the tank can move into a defensive role to keep the momentum of the infantry. Very effective unless they have a droid tank, in that case you should focus the barrage on that target instead.

I would like to clarify something about the concussion grenades of the AT-ST, or rather concussion weaponry as a whole in Star Wars. The name may indicate they are non lethal but they very much are highly lethal and their name should definitely not be taken at face value. An example of this is the concussion missile, which ranges from a small caliber air-to-air missile mounted on fighters to massive anti-ship missiles, such as those on the Victory 1 star destroyer. They can have uses similar to SAPHE ammunition, and some can even be set to airburst, killing with the shockwave generated by the explosion. Which means the "concussion" in "concussion missile/grenade" is pretty much powerful enough to kill someone more effectively than fragmentation or conventional HE weapons

Some points though: ATST’s operated by the First Order and Empire are different, with the First Order being more armored and stable than the Imperial variant. Think more of a Bradley but can’t carry infantry. They were also designed as scouts. Second, repulser technology more pushes the craft directly against the gravitational field, rather than air or force downward. Third, the AAT was originally designed as a sold weapons systems. That’s why it has a crew rather than a droid. The NR-N99 is a fully autonomous droid tank with a massive tread through the center. A few things as well to note is several things from Battlefront 2 are changed or added or removed for game balance reasons. But man I loved this video, great for my specific brand of autism.

A walker video WITHOUT THE AT-AT??? HOW DARE YOU?!?!
Jokes aside man, great vid as always. I do have 2 things to say here that are actually serious/not jokes.
First, yes please do check out Empire at War, that RTS needs more love here on youtube, and with it I would like to ask if you can also review starships and fighters if you can. I know its a bit out of your comfort zone but I think it would be fun.
Besides that, I came here to explain about the Ion Weapons. So Ion weapons are meant to take down electronic devices and tamper with projected shields. Star wars has 2 types of shields: Ray shields that are meant to stop physical objects, and energy shields to stop blasters and stuff. Ion weapons are meant to take those down. So for example, the Droideka you shot. It has an energy shield around it to protect the very fragile droid, so the ion weapon overloads that shield, making it drop, so you can effectively take down the droid. Same concept applies to shields on ships and other things (of course, adjusted to the scale of the target. Ion cannons on ships are comparable to Turbolasers), the only exception being planetary shields. Those are too strong to be taken down by simple Ion weapons, you would need a Commando team on the ground to deactivate it.

    • @Springy05
      @Springy05 Před měsícem +2

So Ion is not really the true "Armor Piercing" ammo you talked about, its meant to take down shields. Heavier blasters and dedicated AP ammo is what will punch through armor plating itself, like what we see in Rogue one with a rocket launcher being used against the AT-ACTs in Scariff

Talking about the TX-130. All plasma based weapons (all blasters are plasma. Not lasers) can adjust the rate of fire and power per blast preporitonal to one another. IE the DC-15. The main, long rifle of the clones could be used as a machinegun. Or it could be made to fire slowly with bolts powerrul enough to put a 1.5m wide hole in ferro-concrete.

If you do a part two, give the T4-B heavy tank of the alliance and the T1 and T3 series vehicles. They're pretty "tank" like vehicles just on a hoving mount, fully rotating turret on a hull. Nothing too fancy but they're probably the best designed from an earth perspective.

I feel like the stability of the AT-ST is more impressive than you (or the films for that matter) let on. The legs actually connect at the back, and there's a dog-leg that connects to the hip at the front of the actual leg. The joints at both ends of the dog-legs rotate as well as pivot up and down. This can allow the leg to lift up and step around large debris it couldn't climb over. The only ways that an AT-ST was felled on screen were by A.) Attacking it from the sides with a cascade of logs, likely jarring the controls and otherwise due to the weight of the logs prevented the driver from regaining control and B.) Falling into a concealed trap, which could potentially befall any vehicle, even some repulsorcraft.

Feel like most people have a slightly different way of defining what a tank actually is. For me, if it has tracks, a gun, it’s a tank, just has different classes like IFV, or a drone, etc.
What map has the AT-TE and how do I get in it!? I need to know please! I’ve been wanting to use it forever and I haven’t ever found it!

I’m kidding. We all know it’s actually the Juggernaut. The Juggernaut is like if the P.1000 Ratte was actually built and worked as intended. And also if it ran on wheels instead of tracks and could go highway speeds.
