For a game so notorious for being discourteous to tank history, it's honestly a miracle I haven't made a video reviewing it's roster yet. Or maybe it isn't, perhaps some things are better just left alone...

Eta320: I can't believe they put Firefly as a premium, it is a iconic tank in British armor in WW2.
The non premium Firefly just set right next: BRUH!!!
Yeah was about to comment this, was midly infuriating to see him say that with the tech tree version set right next to it. Not only that but he actually clicks on it to move the garage slots...
I may be stupid
@@eta320 Nah, you're just blind my friend :D
There are two fireflies in WoT there is one based on the Short Sherman Hull and the premium is based on the A4 hull.

I think its important to note that a lot of tech trees were simplified a while ago and a lot of tanks you see but aren't in the tech tree anymore are collectors vehicles. This includes things like the M3 Lee or the Jagdpanther II, simply because there too many similar vehicles in the same tier and/or did not fit the line it was building up to.
Removing the jagdpanther 2 isntead of the ferdinand just proves that wg hates their players 💀
@@Donir100 ferdinand fits the heavy tank destroyer playstyle of the Jgtiger and JgPz E100
@@TomasLeGamer yeah, but its sluggish and has limited armour, while the jagdpanther 2 is agile and has angled armour.
@@Donir100 as someone who plays the JgPanther 2 quite a bit, the armour is shit. I'd rather have the Ferdinand if i needed to block damage.
@@TomasLeGamer vehicle handling and mobility is leagues better though, not to mention depending on grinds, having the maybach engines unlocked from other lines made choosing the jagdpanther 2 a no brainer but also vice versa if you already grinded out the Tiger P.
Trust me, low tier used to he ridiculously expansive, and they decided to "streamline" them for new players which was a pointless move. It was so much better back in the day
Most of the vehicles are still in the game just "hidden" as collector vehicles. But I'm not a fan of the changem

I always liked wot because it felt like a video game
Random unfinished blueprint of a tank: * *exists* *
WoT: yeah, it’s a new tank now.
At least its creative. War thunder just copy pastes the same tank in other trees
Lots of the blueprint based tanks had early unfinished prototypes which already adds more uniqueness to the game for example the Kranvagn and e100 never had finished turrets but had finished prototype hulls and they have pretty unique designs that add to the game
@@devlintaylor9520that's because in real life a lot of nations used tanks from other nations, England used quite a lot of Sherman's in ww2, France also used Sherman's, Italy used Sherman's when they turned on the allies.
@@AssassinIsAfk Thats fine in small amounts (sidenote: why does britian only get 2 shermans??), but when half of the tech tree is copys like china. Thats when its annoying. It should be a half tech tree like israel.
When you have that many shared tanks, why even limit loadouts to nations? now nations can fight any nation, so it ruins any immersion left.
@@devlintaylor9520 war thunder is about realism but not the emersion, I leant that what I am facing M109's as a tiger 1 E tank
Biggest problem WoT had was inability to stop themselves.
For example they really wanted to give Tiger H and Tiger P L/71 and have an upgradable turret. Have they done the obvious and put "Porsche" aka early Krupp Tiger B turret on them as turret ring diameter is the same? Nope. Because they didn't want sleek turret on Tiger I.
No, outside of the fact the early tiger b/2 turret wasnt the porsche turret but the preproduction turret, but also the fact pordche WASNT EVEN GIVEN THE OPTION TO COMPETE.
The tiger 2 was solely an upgrade of the existing tiger 1 to better fit the evolving tank warfare and also increase the amount of common parts between it and the proposed panther 2.
As for why a lot of tanks have guns they realistically wouldnt fit, its for balance, the tiger 1h is meant to fight tier 9 tanks, the short 88 would be helpless in those types of games, so it gets an extra leg up to help itself. Of course judging from your comment i have a feeling youre a hardcore warthunder fanboy
@@Thekilleroftanks I'm pretty sure there was a time when the Tiger 1 fought tier 10s. A time when there were only 3 tier 10s in the game, and all 3 of them were heavies.

T14 and A33 excelsior were developed side by side, both having issues and not being adopted in time for the D-Day landings due to development hell, then the Jumbo was a last minute band aid fix to fill the missing assault tank role
And A33 Excelsior was supposed to replace Churchill until they found out that they can upgrade the Churchill to become a better infantry tank.
tbf, modifying a Sherman meant you can keep using Sherman parts instead a whole new assembly line for a niche role

23:34 - Talking of the Captured King Tiger's appearance, they *DID* actually recreate the historical appearance of the vehicle in the game, and actually in quite good detail -- I would highly suggest looking up "world of tanks captured king tiger twitch 3d style" or similar to see pictures of it, as it's *surprisingly* well-done!
The reason why you aren't seeing this on the one included in the press account is because this was added as a *separate* customization item (3D style), which you could apply from the exterior menu in-game (the thinking being, you could remove it/use other paints if you so desired). Assuming the style is owned on that account, anyway, which leads onto the unfortunate bit...
Sadly, ever since the vehicle was first sold (after having been "decommissioned" from its original purpose - the vehicle originally served as a Twitch-Prime-exclusive rental vehicle in the game for a short while), this version of its appearance has not been made available again, for sale or otherwise. Bit of a shame, given how nice it looks, as well as how much more accurate it appears to be than any other video game rendition of this vehicle, even compared to the one in Wargaming's own separate Console version of the game (which is NOT the same game, despite the name). 😔(It has been speculated.)
---
Also, something unrelated to comment on -- a lot of the instances of "guns which don't look right" or "turret from B variant on A hull" can be boiled down to two things:
a) Stock grinds (researching/purchasing new guns/turrets/etc with XP/credits, respectively, which you earn by playing the tanks) and/or modifying vehicles to fit their respective tiers;
b) Sometimes, multiple variants of vehicles may be "merged" together, rather than representing each variant exactly the way it would've been historically (i.e. the Pz IV A having the Pz IV B turret), due to gameplay reasons (there's no need to have those two separate modifications, when they both would play the same/aren't different enough to justify creating an entirely separate model, etc).
Press accounts give access to all vehicles in their top configurations/with everything unlocked -- hence, all the "options" would normally be what you'd have to work your way through earning XP/credits for when researching the tank on a new account.
Don't remember it correctly but once there was a big change on how Prime gaming worked and along that World of Tanks removed the Captured King Tiger with the style completely from the game, this is a separate king tiger that was the last reward of a Helloween event which has its own fictional spooky look as an optional style. The historical accurate style therefore doesn't exist anymore
@n2sry405 Not quite - the Captured King Tiger from the Halloween mode is the same one from the Twitch Prime rental, just with a different + separate style. The original style still exists; anyone who bought the "original" Captured King Tiger from when it was sold shortly after the rental program ended got the historical style and can still use it to this day (just, not many people bought it, so it's fairly rare to see nowadays).
24:47 Hey, look it's me
"Połóż mnie na spowrotem na stole" is wrong xD
It means something like "put me on back on the table"
You would have to remove the first "na" so that it would become "put me back on the table"
38:41 The soviets did actually modify a lend lease matilda by putting on a ZIS-5 76mm cannon from a KV-1, though it wasnt a very good idea by the looks of it since they only made one...
Weirdly, after Gaijin added it to War Thunder (as an event vehicle) the upgunned lend-lease Matilda had one of the best kill/death ratios in the game for a couple of years. Probably because the only people who ever used it were grizzled veterans.
Next to the Sherman VC Firefly was a normal Sherman Firefly
23:50 The captured King Tiger has a 3D style available with all those American customisations under the exterior tab, it comes base with the tank, you just have to apply it.
Ya, I was gunna say wasn't there a 3d style that looked closer
Fun fact about the Super Pershing: it ‘allegedly’ killed a Tiger tank, however every piece of American intelligence at the time points to there being no Tiger tanks in the same area as the Super Pershing, so it’s generally believed it was probably a misidentified Panzer IV.
America actually kept a pretty decent idea of where Tiger tanks were, at least towards the end of the war.
Clicked as soon as I saw "Tank enthusiast" in my notifications.
This was a hell of a throw back for me, back when i played , my favourites were the A-20 , T-44 and the ISU-152-2.
Man the A-20 was a beast back when I played in 2016. It was my favorite tank lol
Is this the guy that gets off watching Israeli (U.S.) Thanks blow up hospitals and mosques?
Bro immediately after getting sponsored by them: “THESE TANKS SUCK ASS”
I have heard Chieftain talk about the historical accuracy in WoT: In WoT, accuracy often gives way to gameplay. Example of this he gave is the T-28 prototype with a gun depression in game of -10 degrees, even though in reality it was about -3, because otherwise it would be unusable.
This also causes the weird guns and turrets. This could be explained in comparison with War Thunder: In WT, all tanks are supposed to be as realistic as possible, and if it isn't balanced, they change the Battle Rating. In contrast, in WoT, all tanks have a fixed tier from 1 to 10 and if the tank isn't balanced, they change the parameters or modules of the tank, resulting in a Pz.IV H with 105 mm gun.
Of course, the stuff like weird gun mantlet on the M4A1 is just a mistake that no-one in the community or Wargaming cares about, because most of the tanks in WoT are made-up anyway.
I think this perfectly describes WoT's design philosophy compared to WT's
Fun fact the russian Matilda IV at 38:41 was actually build as an upgunned lend lease matilda
MAN. The tank knowledge this guy has. keep it up dude. subbed
2 uploads in 2 weeks!? Dawg is spoiling us
38:40 Forgive me because I get all my tank info out of War Thunder and the occasional CZcams video but this one is real isn't it? it's in War Thunder as the Tank MK-II "Matilda" (F-96)
From the WT wiki:
Upgunning attempt
While the Red Army used the standard 2-pounder gun installed on Matildas from the beginning, the evolution of German armour made this gun less and less effective. In December 1941, plans were made to equip Matildas with the 76 mm of the KV-1. Only 1 prototype was built. Installing a 76 mm gun in an already cramped turret without modifying it brought major shortcomings: the quasi-absence of gun depression and the even more limited space for loaders to operate around the gun. This led the Red Army to scrap the project and concentrate on new KV-1 models instead.
Very technically, there are two M4A3E2s with 76mm guns and muzzle breaks. After the decision was made to restore the outside of "Cobra King" to how it looked at the time of the famous photograph from December 1944, the mantlet and gun of another jumbo Sherman (registry number USA 3083026)were taken. 3083026 in turn got the 76 of Cobra King, which is how it is still shown to this day at fort Moore (formerly Benning).
Your take on the guns is absolutely correct. However, for game balance and evolution reasons, they needed to stick SOMETHING better on them to reward players for grinding the tanks.
(No one tell this guy about the Waffenträger E 100)
I'm less sure this was truly unavoidable. You could take the other route and move the tanks down a tier, with weaker guns stock, and the historical config, the final upgrade. For example, we already have premium Tigers at T6 with the short 88. Balance the tanks around that.
I'm pretty sure the Matilda with the F-34 actually existed.
I think one prototype was builded
He is still trapped in a world of tanks
The pronounciation of pudel was ideal, words from a native speaker of Polish, and the t-34-85 rudy is from a Polish tv show from the 1950s or 60s, really recommend it, but you might not be able to find the translation to english
Fun Sherman-minutia fact about the intermediate Sherman skirts at 14:55, they weren't just fenders from E8 Shermans retrofit on VVSS tanks but bespoke fenders to make room for the "duckbill" track extensions used in mud/snow!
3:35 the M2A1 light tank prototype (T2E1) was fitted with the 20 mm. The very short production run of M2A1 tanks had the .50 cal. Then the M2A2/A3 tanks had two turrets, both MG armed. The M2A4 returned to a single "Stuart" style turret with a 37 mm AT gun
The turret on the Luchs was real is the turret of the VK1602 ,the Mk103 on it is completely fictional
now this is my kind of channel. Taking the word nerd to a whole new level, especially when tanks are involved is a great thing imo
I think it’s very cute that Arnold got his tank back. Shows how a good tank can become one with the crew
Please make another episode of this, i enjoyed it sooo mutch!! :D
The excitement for seeing polish tanks warms my heart, thank you.
Yes Eta, the Sherman Firefly VC is a premium at the same tier as the tech tree Sherman Firefly
27:10 The "Toothrbrush gun" is actually 30mm MK-103, an aircraft autocannon 🤣. This setup is insane
A lot of inaccuracies come from each tank having a single hull moddeled through all variations. (Along with all the lego-like swapping of real/experimental/theoretical components.)
Once upon a time, they did actially do hull variations as an upgrade for select tanks - namely, the early Panzers, which may have helped with the disgust in the Pz.IV bit - this was done for a "historical mode" which restricted play to historic configurations and factions for specific battles. As soon as they debuted, things went wrong - noone wanted to go into battle with Panzer IIs against the SU-152, so it became a long queue of Tigers and IS series tanks waiting to face eachother. The mode died a very quick death, and the variations that had been introduced were excised from the game.
You'd think it'd be more interesting as a PvE mode.
There actually was a Pve mode similar to that for an event called ‘Road to Berlin’ where the reward was an Is2 with the late war additions like the cage on the turret.
Man is willing to sacrifice effectiveness and "fun" for historical accuracy.
I never realized how cursed World of Tanks actually is
please more of this! very interesting!
Just going to write my thoughts as I watch this video, I've played WoT since 2012.
There are a LOT of 'theoretical' vehicles in WoT, stuff that was either thought up or could technically be possible, or stuff that only has a single prototype, or just plain only existed in a blueprint.
That Sherman reaction made me laugh, both from how you reacted and how I never really noticed it, as I'm not a big fan of Shermans and didn't pay attention to it, but there are a LOT of similar things done in WoT. Some of it they have since fixed, but a lot of it is still in game.
The WTF at the Iron Arnie was spot on, as that was the reaction a lot of us had when they released it. Didn't know all that about him and that tank, but that's pretty cool.
Your comment about the Pz II G starting to look like the luchs had me waiting for you to see the luchs, and it had me rolling.
I definitely agree that the M4 85 is an atrocity.
Would have been fun to see some of your reactions to some of the early game stuff that they changed by the time you did this, and there are a LOT more cursed turret/gun combinations that exist in the game that should never have been done, but it's still fun. Was also hoping to see your reaction to the double-barrelled nonsense or the Yoh tanks. Also kinda hoped, after your reaction to the Iron Arnie, to see your reaction to other things like the Terminator inspired T-32, or The Boys T42. Not sure if you went over them in your patreon video.
They put a fair bit of modeling effort into the tanks very early on, though some of them weren't always 100% accurate, but are still better than a lot of other representations I have seen. Overall I like War Thunders models better
You should see their "T28", they also made the front of the T28 (combat configuration) much rounder than it actually is.
I'm biased but I feel like looking at tanks in war thunder would be a fun "follow-up" to this (assuming that wouldn't upset wargaming, lol) given that war thunder very rarely includes modifications that actually change what model the tank would be considered, the main exceptions being add-on armor kits. I'd be curious what errors you could point out. they also have full x-ray and armor panel views to check out the armor layouts and internals in detail.
The springs above the gun mantlet on the T26E4 Super Pershing are called "equilibrators." They are to move the gun's balance point to the trunnions, in cases where the trunnions are near the breech. They are also found on many artillery pieces, including the M1/M114 155 mm howitzer.
Pease do more episodes like this, it is awsome. I have been playing WOT for 10 years now and still don't know anything about them from real life

At 24:18 - It's really weird because WoT Console has the exact Tiger II you're describing, complete with tarps and original tricolor German paint.
19:49 it’s metal that was taken from a boiler if I remember correctly
You specifically talk about the counter weight of the bussle storage unit, and wings on the turret but the wings as counter weight was for gun traversal as the gun and additional armor weighed too much to lift the gun (which inadvertently ended up just being super damn heavy in the end hence the spring system on top). It was not counterweight for the suspension otherwise it would just be mounted on the turret itself not the mantlet piece it’s also far enough forward where it would not do great as a counterweight for the suspension either
M4-85 moment killed me, that was my exact reaction when the tank came out in game
That smile when the GuP Pv.IV popped up lol
Captured King Tiger actually has a very pretty ‘historical’ skin, much like the depiction you were talking about
There's an exterior style for the Captured King Tiger that has the proper historical nets on it. It was a Twitch Prime/Prime Gaming incentive for World of Tanks years ago, and pretty much everyone who played it enjoyed it, if I recall correctly, I very much did. (I missed the permanent drop).
Im very happy to know im not the only person that enjoys rambling about tanks!
Just found your channel, within the first ten seconds you had subscription
"everyone's favorite tank autist"
I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this:
The Captured King Tiger does has the correct camo and clothed stars in the exterior tab in WoT, the tank has it on by default but the previous user on this press account turned it off. If you get the chance again, go check it out, should be in the presets tab
The captured king tiger has those visual things, you just have to put it on. Its a camouflage.
Note that the captured King Tiger was not used in combat by the US, and indeed it was non-functional
The turret had been jammed, and was janked back to forwards before they took it for a short joyride
Omg I’m so happy I found another jagpanzer 1 fan
war thunder players leaking classified documents so some tank gets its 0.000001 faster reload like irl. meanwhile world of tanks: stacking mantlets on top of each other to make a cripple.
iirc, while the additional mantlet armour on T26E4 "Super Pershing" was pulled off a Panther, the hull armour (and the balancing wings) was just some random 40 mm boiler plates they had found in a German locomotive repair workshop
We need a series of Eta going through all the weird tanks/modifications WoT has
He'd be making that series from now til the end of time. Covering the guns alone would take months, as most of the tanks have their historical gun as the stock gun, with various blueprint, upgrade and paper guns as "upgrades."
I got a rental of the Captured Tiger from twitch drops long ago, back then it actually looked how it did irl with the front cloth with american star.
Before they did the major commander and UI overhaul in WoT i hade a huge sherman collection. My favorites were the M4 AMX13, the Thunderbolt, and the Fury
I was interested by the Puma turret thing and it turns out it's very much real. The "Puma turret" was actually designed for Leopard but when the project was canned, they still manufactured the turret for the 8-rad and created the Puma. This turret was designed to be completely interchangeable with the Luchs turret and you can see film footage from Czechoslovakia of Puma's with Luchs turrets surrendering to the Americans.
Now we definetly need part 2
*About the top tier tanks. Which most of them are wacky fictional vehicles*
I love world of tanks simply because there's no limit to what to expect. Everything from historically accurate down to the bolt recreations, to some engineer doodling on a napkin. It's fun and informative
You can notice in war thunder the M4A1s sights are in a periscope if you don’t believe me go to your settings and turn on canon in sights or something like that if you turn that setting on you can wiggle the camera around and you can see the gun bottom left
*cries in 3 Marks of Excellence with the M4 Sherman.....8 years ago*
Enjoyed this.
i just looked at the thumbnail and already knew that aint going to be going well
23:31 they do have a 3D skin for the Captured King Tiger, it's in the game just wasn't applied to yours unfortunately, it even has a shell hole in the turret neck
there's been hemming and hawing over the years about having hull upgrades in the research tree alongside the turret upgrades for tanks that had alternate hulls but not enough difference to make them seperate tanks.
These videos make me smile
I believe, there should be skin for King Tiger C with the cloth in preset styles, or at least there was when it was added in game as Prime Subscription Reward.
23:03 that does seem to be the german m48 super's composite screens and the 105mm with the cover from the m48 ga2/m48 super
24:08 There is a 3d style of captured tiger like on photos but it was available only when this tank was in twitch prime subscription rewards
About Tier 1 inacuracies, some years ago WG removed some modules of starting tanks to streamline the game for new players, so things like T1 with a T1E2 turret were left not explained.
So a few things that I noticed
Matilda with a 76 gun is real
T-34-85 extended turret is probably the 3 man variant of the early T-34-85 turret.
a fellow 38t enjoyer fucking love that tank it hits the eyes right love how the turan is a bigger pz38 kinda
I could watch this for hours
The jumbo is equipped with a normal t23. It's the upgrade and allows you to mount the upgraded 76mm gun. It's more of a side grade in game as it has worse armor but higher HP and the 76 gets higher rate of fire but lower accuracy.
The top turret on the T26 pershing is actually from the 105mm variant
Also the Captured King Tiger has that historical style you mentioned as a 3d style, seperate from the vehicle. It came prepackaged back when it was a reward for amazon prime gaming
Oh and there is a "tech tree" firefly tank
that was fun to watch
Would enjoy this kind of thing with WarThunder (if you havent done it already), the models are real pretty and there are some tanks you could argue are a bit iffy
24:00. they do have the real life mockup of the King tiger captured. its in the exterior customizations. not sure why it wasnt equipped since thats how i got it when i bought the tank.
I'm surprised he didn't go into looking at the Tiger I...
It should not have a 10,5 cm cannon.
I did make an attempt at using the 10.5 on the Tiger during my first grind. It was very difficult.
the king tiger outfit was available during limited amazon drop
About the M3 Lee being before T6 Medium, it was actually there in place of the T6, but they moved it to collector's tanks i believe because it was... horrible
TBH, I drove the M3 before it was removed, and it's honestly fine ... if you play it as a TD instead. Really high DPM for the tier, and good enough pen for most everything at tier4. But you need to know how to work with a fixed gun and keep at a distance, which is less likely for new people not purposely going for a TD playstyle.
@@Appletank8doesn't work. Has no camo. Garbage tank
So when I first saw the M4-85 myself, I did some research on it. Apparently there was an actual proposal to upgun the Sherman by using the T-34-85's turret and gun. Not whatever that is.
