- Welcome to Bonita's Kitchen! Today we will be making A DELICIOUS AMBROSIA SALAD. This salad can be a dessert or served with your meal. See recipe below!!

Ingredients:
1 cup unsweetened coconut 1 can or cup mandarin oranges
1 cup pineapple tidbits 1 cup mini marshmallows, white or coloured
1 cup sour cream, yogurt or whipped cream 2 tbsp toasted coconut
Method:
In a glass bowl add unsweetened coconut, mandarin oranges cut in half.
Pineapple tidbits no juice. Mini marshmallows white or coloured.
Toss in your sour cream or plain yogurt and continue folding it together.
After flatten in bowl and sprinkle some toasted unsweetened coconut over the top and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Bonita Tips:
Use sweetened or unsweetened coconut, also use fresh or canned mandarin oranges.
Using coloured mini marshmallows gives the salad a nice look, same taste.
Using sour cream, yogurt or whipped cream will be a personal choice, same taste.
To toast coconut, just put the frying pan on the stovetop and add the coconut to the pan. Toss it around a little in the pan until it turns a nice golden brown. Remove from heat let cool before adding it to the ambrosia salad.

One of my favorite salads! It's a summer and Christmas tradition in our house. We put halved green grapes in ours as well.

Our local senior center serves meals to seniors. Occasionally ambrosia salad is offered as a dessert. I like it. Now I no longer must wait months for an opportunity to eat ambrosia salad. Thank you. 🙂

One of my dad's favorite salads. My mom also made it with sour cream. Your cold plate looks very appetizing.

There's a great old movie 📽starring Melina Mercouri 💋set in a Greek fishing village called 'Never on Sundays'. In our house growing up in the 1940s & 1950s, my mother's rule about Ambrosia was 'ONLY on Sundays'. All the kids loved it 😋, except I always picked out the maraschino cherries 🍒she decorated the top with. She served it in a cut crystal bowl to make it even more special. 🤔I think the pattern was called ' Cross & Olives' ❌🫒.

Hi Bonita hi Raymond. So sorry for my lateness. Graham had to fly back home to help his mom and dad for a few weeks he will be back mid month and while he is gone our poor Harrietta she had a rough week .I had to take her in to the vet and we had to say goodbye to her. I am so heartbroken she was our little girl. I’m trying hard to get myself together. Anyways enough of that. What a great idea to have this with cold plates. I never made it for that before it’s an awesome idea. I like the Mandarines on top of yours too . That toasted coconut I bet it did smell wonderful. That plate looks amazing!!! Oh my gosh Jerri-ellen, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. It is very hard to say goodbye to your furry baby, we know all to well. Air hugs from us and time will help and keep her memories and pictures alive around you to help aswell. Sorry for the late reply, we got our youngest son and his family here for a week and it is busy. But we are enjoying every minute of it!!! Cant wait to see what you put in yours Bonita, my girls love this and its usually always requested for their birthdays to have at lunch. You can change up the fruits(berries, apples, pears ,anything) and use crushed nuts or cookies if you don't like coconut too. Have to say that my girls had me top it off last time with the miniature reeses cups and that lil bit of chocolate was nice.

I’ve seen this made with cool whip instead of sour cream. I guess yogurt would wok too.
