This video has proven to me Spudgun's skill as an editor. In near silence, looking at a tiny part of a map in a mod for an alternate history in a decade-old economic map game, my heart was pounding and I was at the edge of my seat for the whole ordeal around Orsha. Bravo!
Noooo, it already hurts to watch the opening. Not again. I always get my hopes up, and then Spud goes ahead and starts a war with little chance of victory and damages his nation severely as a result. But it's to captivating to stop watching.
This was the perfect time to attack, with a good strategy this time, He just did not have the Leaders, and also no luck. If he had not been a Great Power, he would have won that war.
While I'm definitely cheering for you, spud, I got chills when "God save the Tsar" started playing. In an alternate universe, we're all celebrating the formation of russia in the face of a pesky, cunning, and indomitable PLC
Ye. As a Russian myself I can't stop rooting for Russia these whole series. I know, it's a fictional world and just a game overall and I really like my man Spud, but still... Daym.
It was like that in reality too, just way earlier than 1800+. Remember poles intervening into russian Time of Troubles? And don't forget Ivan the Terrible warring PLC most of his reign to a stalemate at best.
@@hyperion3145 I like all of them. Moreover, Muscovy series are cool, but not even nearly as good as all that Plantagenia/Belgian Confederation drama shit.
This picture in 23:02 is very accurate. Stańczyk (the character presented on this piece of art) was a polish jester known for his patriotism. Matejko artist who made this, presented him sitting very miserable after loss of Smoleńsk, so the same region where you lost your last battle.
this is painful to watch, the death throes of a nation with little hope and a threat they can barely contain. your ally in the west is keeping you afloat, however, national consolidation and rearmament are required if the Russian threat is to be stopped at the gates. we believe in you spud, the hoard is at the gates but you have the key!
Most captivating Vic II series so far. I can't help but feel the Russian player is very nice to you. He neevr launched an offensive war against you and didn't even want to fight you. Also he doesn't try to do diplo to stop you from expanding elsewhere. Anyway I can't wait to see how you will bounce back from there.
Watching your video is basically watching, old one in particular. Everyone says to shut up in the comments to avoid spoilers, says to watch it till the end, makes gags of the expanded universe (navy jokes), and most importantly, the video is a rollercoaster worthy of adaptation
That was a hell of war for both sides. GG's to you spud and VirtualRock. I was a the edge of my seat during all the final battles. I so hype for this series.
Yeah idk why he hasn’t gotten some ally and insisted on 1v1s instead. Maybe worried about international sympathy for muscovy and the war spiraling out of control?
He doesn't want it to be a peace of cake Plus a title like THE WAR OF SUPER DISERARATION gets him more views and a intense war keeps people interested thus more view time For spud he wants a challenge for the viewers to keep them interested.
Think about Polish military culture in this timeline. Three generations of Polish blood soaked into the marshes of Ruthenia just to prevent the establishment of a Russian Empire, ultimately resulting in failure. The people must be devestated. Plz play an op country next campaign to lighten the mood a little. These horrendous, decades long regional conflicts against bigger countries are just too sad lmao.
Smolensk was the key province here, taking it would ve prevented the plain gap at Orsha. But easier said than done, especially the 4 Def General from Muscovy made this kinda impossible. In the south its hard to say, maybe holding the river line behind Poltava and Chernigov. But i think it was doomed from the start. Muscovys Mobilization advantage is just huge and on top of this even a General advantage, thats just too much.
Bruh I would have left in Muscovy's place. Winning 3 defensive wars in a row and yet ending up weaker and weaker than the guy you defeated is just unfair
not exactly true, if you watch them back again, Muscovy was absolutely stronger at the outset of every one of these wars, the wars have always been nearly pyrrhic though, with this last one being entirely pyrrhic. Russia has continued to grow stronger, however without strong Diplo to try and change the tide I think it likely Spud could get allied support, it's just not seen as highly by Spud who prefers his 1v1's if he can help it
You should check out the song Polania Victrix from the Iron Harvest ost. If you can use it the violin piece at the end would be good for some somber moments.
One option could have been to let him walk into your marshes in Belarus (Pinsk etc) at the start, and then counterattack while he is in terrible supply terrain and reinforcing slower on your territory. Would also have prolonged the war and thus the Russia formation. But ofc, that also means you gain war exhaustion, lose pop/industry etc + he gets to mobilise. Tough spot to be in. Also, if this was icen_puir you could have reduced your prestige pre-war by spamming grants and then get into the Elbian spear :^)
You can't drop out of GP status in a 2 vs 2 or more GPs. ie France and Russia vs Germany and Austria even if any of them drops their score to 0 they won't ever drop of GP while the war is going on. But a 3 vs 1 will allow it.
Luckily, if we follow this pattern we will have that after each war there's a slight upgrade, since the latest upgrade was a white peace, surely the next one will be a victory of either a province or war reparations, so looking forward for the future!!
Great video as always, Spud! Funny how last war was lost because you pushed too far, this one because you didn't push enough. Either way though Elbia is happy financing you as a buffer state to keep Russia at bay.

there was nearly no general micro managment in this, no wonder you lost the battles, idk if you tag your generals but either way you only used them right in one battle
That's the kind of Victoria 2 MP I love. You're in a corner of Europe away from the toxic bunch (I won't name anyone), fighting a rival without insults, slurs and such being thrown around. It's too sad such people are so rare, and so often games are full of toxic, edgy people who can't interact with others without being confrontational. I like edgy jokes, memes and such as much as the next guy, and yes you're very funny, but please, you don't need to use the word "based" in every sentence
The main reason you lost was the first battle of Vitebsk @4:00 . You reinforced where the enemy was defending with a +4 general, you had a -1 crossing, -1 terrain, and -1 entrenchment. And you were attacking in this battle, with close to even mil tech. That battle was a slaughter with you losing 3.5k a tick. The last battle of kursk was similar, but could have been won had the massacre of Vitebsk been avoided.

Poland-Lithuania may have white-peaced in this war, and Russia did get to form, but it is a fact that this Russian formation is much, much weaker. This Russia is diplomatically isolated, technologically lagging behind, and has suffered extremely. I don't know if they're going to get sphered, but Poland-Lithuania definitely will, making the favor even more against Russia. Russia is not the horde at the gates, no no, Russia is barely holding on, just like Poland Lithuania...but unlike Poland-Lithuania they have no allies who may or may not rush in to help. Russia, of course, has no allies, as said in the video. And of course, China is always the biggest threat to literally everyone, especially in this server.
