KING FU HUSTLE? SHOALIN SOCCER? I SUBSCRIBED 4 YEARS AGO AND STILL NOTHING.
Nan taking that dinner roast from the maid and presenting it like she cooked it herself triggered my PTSD from my days as a corporate lackey.
The Pierces are based mainly on the Bancroft family who owned Dow Jones/Wall Street Journal before they sold it to Rubert Murdoch. If you read "The Man Who Owns the News" the Murdochs' courting of the Bancrofts, and the Bancrofts personalities themselves are very close to their fictional portrayal.
Just enjoy the characters for how they're written. I hate that people constantly try to find real world comparables
@@a004 That's YOU. Others, including me, really enjoy the comparisons.😊
@@a004 but if they HAVE comparision it's part of the experience analizing those. Granted You don't have to like it, but let alone those who do.
@a004 you can enjoy them that way, but there's no fault in drawing comparison, especially when these families were a direct inspiration for the show
@@a004 But they were the inspiration for them. I hate when people ignore context and tell other people to do the same.
30:10 he never wanted her to take over in a first place lol, that was a play to take her out of politics and specifically Gil campaign which would benefit only Logan, that's it
Has anyone else noticed how good Pat is at instantly predicting which characters are gonna hook up?😂
*People smile at each other*
Pat: They're gonna fuck
does not bat 1.000 but hits for average.
@@LaCheeserieeven the best hitters have about a .350 batting average
9:09 cue Pat and Suraj laughing like hyenas at an elevated octave
oh my god THAT is perfect timing lmao 🤣
"I would not talk if I was Logan Roy's child. I would shut the fuck up." might be the smartest thing I've ever heard Rana say.
"Would you like to hear my favorite passage from Shakespear? Take the f'ing money"
Like Cersei Lannister, Logan Roy knows power is power.
editor is absolutely killing it
the zoom on suraj while he shared his pegging knowledge went too far
The difference between the Pierces and the Roys is not just left wing vs right wing, it's old money vs new money. Logan is self-made, one generation from the dirt; Nan is part of a long line of WASP elites. When Nan made the comments she did about the house and how her journalists were "hacks," she was being self-deprecating. Hallmarks of that class are that you never brag and you never talk about money, or at least you pretend to hate bragging and talking about money.
I don’t think it’s about old vs new money. I see it more as California culture vs New York culture.
@@milfordgunnie4599 They're both East Coast. The Pierces are Long Island WASPS and the Roys are based in New York. The businesses of both families are international, but the cultures are very DC to New York.
Yep. It's definitely "old" media versus "new" media. The conflicts in this episode is akin to Hearst vs. Murdoch. The Pierces got their power through print media while the Roys achieved power through modern cable.
Well then it's New York culture vs. something else. Either way I don't think it's about old vs. new money because that concept wasn't mentioned in the episode at all and it would've been too Great Gatsby not Succession.
This
Chris is singlehandedly keeping me subbed to the normies, always dropping gems
“Is this why he won the Oscar?” lmao
I legit started learning piano this year just to be able to experience the Succession score more closely… I’ve been obsessed with Succession for the better part of 2 years. I’m here for that supplemental content ❤
Shiv definitely leans to the left. That’s part of the reason Nan wanted her. Maybe not as much as Gil but she is fully aware of how flat out terrible ATN is. When they first talked about buying Pierce, she noted that it’s kinda the only safe haven for actual news. I don’t *personally* think spiting Logan was part of the reasoning but that’s just me. I think Nan was pretty straightforward about her concerns the morning after. Them being dealbreakers was the main bluff.
I wouldn't say she leans left. She is just a very self-interested rich white liberal.
I think she's just a centrist that's socially liberal, so basically your average Democrat. Nothing left about her.
She wants to be viewed as left leaning, at the core it is strategy to be, not a real belief system or leaning somewhere. The only thing she believes in, is that she is a "good person".
But can you be truly on the left if none of your decisions and none of your actions align with a left-leaning philosophy?
I'd make the same argument for Kendall. He can believe all the philosophical idealisms he wants, but if you don't practice what you preach, are you what you say you are?
At the end of the day you have to decide do you wanna stick die hard to your ideals or do you want to win
I cant with Micky's basic forum comments... thats one reason why I wish only first time reactions
He’s always been like this. Usually it’s Reddit reviews of the movies/shows their watching but today he’s mimicking CZcams streams
Geri couldve as little as 10 million in the bank account. she probably makes like 1-2 mil a year and probably bought a nice home. you overestimate the employees money
right? like how are they so off? some dude said shes a billionaire.
I would say she makes more than that, but yeah, She's not in the 100mill.
No she’s def got more than 10 million. She’s executive level and been there from the start so she got a lot of stock when the company started which could translate to a lot more than 10 million assuming she’s allowed to sell.
@@AtlantaGuns didnt remember hearing about stock options. i could see logan wiggling out of that one
yeah, these guys have no sense of scale, like not at all
Greg-ORY. That dinner was so awkward, the only thing that saved it was Tom's hilarious line delivery.
Lmao Chris called the helicopter a whirlybird in the Kendall / Naomi scene before Logan screams it later on in the episode!
Rana rolled her eyes and then she hit Suraj because of the Lost 😂
Mickey, why do they want more money? Because the way you consume changes with your income. Why are you dressed so nicely with brands when you could be comfortable with $5-$10 clothing pieces and shoes? Why eat something fancy when plain rice is so filling? Humans want more or at least to preserve their lifestyle.
Yes that is why people call for wealth cap.
@@akshayhere Who enforce that cap? The government? In countries choosing to limit earnings and private property the new upper class was always the political party and members of the government. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
In the first season you absolutely did see the dad's face in the intro.
I thought Mickey said he's seen the show? How does he not know Shiv's political leanings?
She has political leanings and not just personal preferences? Damn....
@nickrubin7312 do you think you're being clever?
It is very clear he thinks just because she has passed a certain financial threshold her political leanings mean very little to her at the end of the day. Forgetting that even the average Joe is like this.
For someone who worked in politics, Shiv doesn't have a really good filter.
In my theory the reason why Roman has vulnerability issues and wants something “wrong” is he’s a victim of SA. Especially his statement about camp/military school or that ep about being sent away etc. If u really look deep into his behavior and certain phrases it kinda makes sense.
SA from whom?
@@ameliacraiig4193 maybe Mo? The joke he made about camp so maybe there or at military school who knows but it’s just a theory
Wait what? Where does the SA come in? He's a weird guy, that's all. Unless otherwise is shown, making up ridiculous theories about nothing makes no sense..
@@Sm0kingGun Relax. SA is unfortunately pretty common and with men in particular it’s rarely spoken about. SA victims have difficulty with intimacy in adulthood. Roman has had two attractive gf who have both said that he never has sex with them. It’s odd. He only can get off when he’s degraded which is not how most people operate biologically with sex. Romans childhood has weird details like being locked in a cage. That he himself can’t fully remember (another sign of SA). The show provides enough details that hints that Roman doesn’t have a normal upbringing and currently has a lot of issues especially with sex. Succession isn’t a show that needs to spell out everything for the audience to pick up. Watch two and a half men or some shit for that. There is enough information for this theory to be created. Your angry rejecting response to it is odd to me.
I don't think someone having a kink is good reason to theorize the possibility of SA in their past.
You can usually tell if someone has been a long term alcoholic from their face but with many drugs it's hard to notice outside of like meth lol. But I think in this context it was more about Kendall's demeanor than anything else.
Source : grew up with an addict...
You missed this part that summarises the episode:
“like Romans among the Greeks. I’m sure you find us all rather, you know, big, vulgar, and boisterous.”
Drugs, especially stimulants can cause your sphincters to relax without control and hence evacuate when asleep
One of the best episodes in the whole series. This is such a funny and cringe inducing episodes, especially the dinner scene. Just a master class of writing and acting.
Funny thing about this episode. The Normies think that these two rich powerhouse families, are from a left and right perspective. I actually saw a video on CZcams, that made me think differently.
The difference between the pierces and the Roy isn’t the fact that one is left wing and one is right wing.
The major difference between the two is the fact that the Pierces represent old money & the Roy’s are new money. The pierces news Company has been around since the beginning of modern America, and probably come from a long generation of pierces. Whereas the Roy are fairly new in their wealth starting with Logan. You can tell on how they behave. The pierces care about their hobbies and extracurriculars, whereas the Roy simply care about the business and the money.
Love playing the theme on the piano. Iconic music. Iconic show.
4:53 Tom showed his gratitude for wealth but to be fair he’s not from crazy wealth relative to them
Chris nailed it. Shivon is not left wing, she’s on the winning side. Judge her by her actions not her words.
Felt like Logan’s “keep clean killer” line was to remind Ken while he’s on top/in favor over the others at the moment don’t get too cocky
Editor had Suraj on blast this video loool
More Tom and Greg would've made this office perfection.😂
The big confirmation that the Pierces are all show no substance is the fact that they constantly talk about protecting their values and their company legacy and all that. Make a big trara out of it.
But when it actually comes down to it? They take the money after realising that Logan won't back down.
A loved the little hesitant political confessions we got to hear at the end of the show.
Didn't know Micky was a neuroscientist and Psychologist the way he's psycho-alanlysizes groups of people calling them Scicopaths. He must have an indept knowledge of the human brain and how dopamine affects it.
You guys do realize that shiv hasn't worked in the company ever roman, and kendall has been working for so long
And they suck
Mickey fr spitting at the end!!!
great discussion
I am glad that Micky was on this reaction, even though he watched it before. I hope you'll bring him in more.
"Drive your f***ing whirly bird!" classic line
I don’t blame Logan for walking at that point. You can’t let a rival pick your replacement. That feels like they’re taking you over not the other way around
I mean it was never gonna shiv or any of the kids cause that would require Logan giving up power
We need to see Micky perform the theme on the piano before they're done reacting to the show. 😊
Gerri actually CARES about Roman, you see it when he asks for booze, she doesn't just say yes, she pours him a glass and tells him to drink it, SUBTLY she is the mother, the caring parent/partner at all that he's never had. His siblings disregard him, Tabitha seems to only care about what she gets out of him, Gerri cares enough to hold him accountable, and he's attracted to that.
I get it. We want what we don't have. I have a high pressure job where I'm in charge, so outside of work I like to not be that whenever I can. And I'll say honestly, yeah, Gerri's script there turned me on. There are people who are successful, but they themselves don't believe it so when everyone compliments them on their success they don't see it, which is why when someone validates THEIR opinion of themselves it's attractive, even in a bad way. You feel like you are a POS, people telling you you're great won't help you, the disconnect from your internal reality makes you think they're LYING to you for their own agenda. How can they compliment me, can't they see I don't feel that way? So when someone hits on your insecurity and validates it, that SHOULD be negative, but because it aligns with your beliefs you take it almost like PRAISE. She's right, he thinks, I am a disappointment, she must like me she's telling me the TRUTH (his truth).
i think they already live lavishly. they just dont gloss over it, because to them its normal.
They dont have money to walk away. Their wealth is from the stock.
The pierces are supposed to be old money, I am sure they have money to walk away.
@universalpower419 Again with what $. You have to sell the company to see the profits. Until then, they are just borrowing against the stock to maintain their lifestyle.
Micky has some choices. You can seek therapy, you can do your best to change things, or you can leave.
what
on point
39:25 I hear what you’re saying but these are still human beings and in many ways this is a game to them. Their legacy/ego is wrapped up into numbers.
1 billion vs 24 billion is a big difference in that if they wanted to buy a baseball team the person with 24 billion could. The potential of not being able to get something they want is the issue.
I thought I wouldn't love Micky being here (only because he's already seen the show, I love him in other reacts), but I loved his commentary so much. Also love the teddy fresh jacket
do you feel like you lose when you buy a hamburger?
Mickey with a 'stache looks creepy af for some reason
Two questions to Normies (and all):
Regarding opening theme music......Severance? Or Succession?
Regarding opening credit sequence.......Severance? Or Succession?
I really like mikeys jacket where’d he get it
The Gerri thing made you uncomfortable because she saw Roman grow up, it is weird. I mean she is a family friend and a has worked for the family for decades.
anyone got link of the video Chris mentioned 39:45
There a member is missing of the team for along time where did he go?!!!!
KING FU HUSTLE, WHEN? SHOALIN SOCCER? 4 YEARS NOW.
Great conversations at the end this episode made me cringe mad hard when I first saw it
Poor Gerri, they're talking about her like she's in her 90s, J Smith Cameron is only in her 60s 😭
Aw man Mickey soapboxing again.
Personally, I think it's bad enough that someone who's already watched the entire show is talking in-depth about what they perceive to be the show's themes. They should be mostly facilitating discussion for the people that are watching the show.

Side? There is no side my guy
My pursuit of money means I would not take candy from a baby, because having a reputation as a man that would take candy from a baby is WAY bigger a threat to my goal of making money that the value isn't there. I don't GAIN anything from stealing from a baby, in fact it would cost me social capital, so it's a bad idea solely for greedy reasons, lol.
That is how capitalism is SUPPOSED to work, why would I do that evil thing for money, looking evil would cost more than just doing the right thing. If you punish bad and reward good, you get more good.
We have a startling addiction today to rewarding the worst in us, so it's no surprise people make a career of doing bad to be successful.
Really impressed by the political discussion post reaction.
Conor is the only one who actually has political beliefs.
He’s an insane person but he has actual political beliefs

Being a patriot and loving your country, doesn’t mean you can’t admit where the country falters and it’s negative aspects and want to make it better.
"they can't handle the truth" ?
most people can deal with the truth, they just don't like someone who whines about the truth and sums it all up to their victimistic view, the guy literally didn't even enjoy the episode.
18:13 “The elite right and the elite left and they’re all the same” Ah yes the insightful brave detail of “both sides-ing” everything. Learn to keep score people and it makes it more believable you understand the game you’re watching.
that is true tho
Two wings, same bird. One being worse doesn't redeem the other.
@@mandalorian_guy Literally the whole episode is showing the contrast between the two families. One family saves drug addicts, the other kills drug addicts. One family reads books, the other couldn’t name a book. One family gets PhDs, the other reads blogs, memes and “the Constitution.” And this isnt a deep take, it was made fairly obvious.

@@universalpower419 i’m glad you agree. I didn’t think so either.
I don't disagree with most of Mickey's political takes. But he has to remember that this show is much more interested in the family dynamics and the drama/comedy of it than it is about making political statements. There are definitely parts that try to show how ridiculous/evil the rich can be, but that's not the main thing the show is trying to convey. So when he's constantly bringing up these takes, it feels out of place to me.
Nah, man. The show is definitely interested in making political statements. It's just very subtle with it. Just rewatch the episode where they decide on which candidate to back and the one with ATN's election night coverage. You also must keep in mind that Jesse Armstrong is a very political writer (just watch Four Lions, The Thick of It, and Veep).
@@anotheryoutubeuser I never said it doesn't make political statements. I just said it's much more interested in exploring the family relationship and the drama/comedy of it instead. That's the major focus of the show. Would you disagree with that?
@@UnlistedAgainyeah the family’s dynamics in the context of what? This isn’t any normal family. It’s a family of elites that have an insane amount of wealth and power.
@@UnlistedAgain Then why are Mickey's comments "out of place?"
@anotheryoutubeuser because it's the majority of what he says in his commentary. For example, imagine you're watching Breaking Bad, and your commentary is mostly about the failures of the healthcare system in America. It would feel out of place because while the show does critique it plenty of times, it is not a major focus of the show. It would feel a lot more natural to comment on the transformation of Walter, moral ambiguity, motivation for choices and the resulting consequences, etc.
