    Thats my favorite scene from the entre show. People are economic units, there is no afterlife, thats the way Logan see the world, thats his cosmology. It's funy that in the EP when he dies, Roman check the stock market falling down and says: "thats the size of Logan Roy". Amazing script!

      It’s funny cause Logan still wants a Catholic funeral and opines that Shiv’s wedding isn’t Catholic-I always felt he was struggling with his own worldview towards the end of his life. He wasn’t a believer but he feared potential punishment for his deeds-in his heart, he knew he’d lost his soul long ago and thought he didn’t care. Now he’s facing death and realizes maybe he does care.

  • @sullivandmitry1416
    @sullivandmitry1416 Před měsícem +51

    Logan is by far one of the most powerfully written and interestingly written characters of all time. I think he truly loves his kids, but he’s so jaded about life and the purpose of life that he loses the reason to even love his kids. He sees that he loves his kids but that makes no logical sense because all life is simply a market for others to exploit each other for gain, so why love at all. At the same time, he cannot fully abandon his kids because he feels this irrational love, so he allows them to be in his sandbox to play. So many more ideas and possible concepts, which makes him so interesting.

    • @wepmajoe
      @wepmajoe Před 29 dny +1

      Very well put. Whatever semblance of humanity is left inside him is for his kids, the rest belongs to money; to the market. It's this inherent contradiction that allows him to even entertain the idea of any of them being his successor, which we can see by the end that they are clearly not up to the task. The deep, bitter, truthful irony of the show is that humanity has NO place at the upper echelons of the capitalist world, even the tiny scraps that Logan gives his family.

    One of the things that was fascinating about Logan was this additional layer of his character that was not uncovered during the show but at times there were hints. There was a certain mysticism about him, like when he said something like “ i wouldn’t make a buck if i didn’t know a few things about the world”. It makes sense that the writers hinted at that because it’s a character trait that for good or bad a lot of the 0.0001% have…

This scene reveals how much his life has truly amounted to nothing-he doesn’t even really have developed thoughts just rambling and starting to wonder if there’s anything more-before trying to justify there can’t be (if there is, it means his life on the accrual of material at the cost of his soul has been a waste). I think this scene is meant to show the human extent of logans dementia, which of course we are shown right in the in the first scene of the whole series. Outside of the superstructure of a massive media organisation, he is floppy, rambling, incoherent, and paranoid, mind jumping from one topic to another, and with a lot of negative views on the world. The company and its expolits are his exoskeleton and his cognitive prop, outside of it he has not much of value
