  • Parker Adams Boat Sales - www.parker-adams.co.uk is proud to launch our Engineering made simple series for marine engines.
Jonathan Parker will be presenting the series, he is one of the owners of Parker Adams Boat Sales and has over 15 years of experience in the Marine Industry. He worked for Sea Start attending marine breakdowns for over 10 years before starting up a successful engineering business, he now focuses his time on the boat sales business and teaching people how to service and maintain their own boats.
This video is focused on how to bleed a Diesel Engine. The work is carried out on a Volvo Penta KAD 43 which is part of the KAD series engines that are commonly found in many powerboats upto around 2005/6. The same block went from the AQAD41 at 200hp through to the last version on this engine which was the KAD300 with 285hp.
We hope you enjoy the video, if you would like us to cover another area of marine engineering please do leave a comment and we will do the best we can to bring this to life in one of our next videos.

note: if the lift pump lever has no tension when bleeding you may need to bump the engine over so that the rod on the backside of the lever is on the high spot of the cam lobe...

One thing that is often talked about but rarely actualy done in how to videos. Having the engine out of the boat is ideal and makes everything so much easier to piece together. Short clip but very informative, great stuff.

Advice: fill new filter with clean diesel as full as possible, improves bleeding procedure. Thank for the video!

But some of that diesel will get unfiltered into the diesel pump then

Nice video Johnathan, hope you will be making similar videos for all the service jobs? belts / coolant replacement / impeller / compressor oil etc?

No mention of what to do if the lift pump is off the cam?

But isn't there a good possibility of air downstream of the areas/components you show here? Don't you next at least have to crack the nut at the first injector to ensure removing the air, if any, until clean fuel shows with no bubbles?
