  • Parker Adams Boat Sales - www.parker-adams.co.uk is proud to launch our Engineering made simple series for marine engines.
    Jonathan Parker will be presenting the series, he is one of the owners of Parker Adams Boat Sales and has over 15 years of experience in the Marine Industry. He worked for Sea Start attending marine breakdowns for over 10 years before starting up a successful engineering business, he now focuses his time on the boat sales business and teaching people how to service and maintain their own boats.
    This video is focused on how to change an impeller. The work is carried out on a Volvo Penta KAD 43 which is part of the KAD series engines that are commonly found in many powerboats upto around 2005/6. The same block went from the AQAD41 at 200hp through to the last version on this engine which was the KAD300 with 285hp.
    We hope you enjoy the video, if you would like us to cover another area of marine engineering please do leave a comment and we will do the best we can to bring this to life in one of our next videos.

    a bloody good idea, most boat owners know how engines work, and are generally up to do the basics, but are put off when the engine is in a boat, the raw water principle over radiators normally confuse, well done

    Great tutorials. I am a bit of a diesel novice so happy to see some pro tips. How about decompression usage, changing belts and anodes?

    @parkerAdams, Well done! So I would like to ask you, wether you have experience about electric engine preheaters? How to install, required power 500W, 750W or 1000W ?

    Hello Parker, I have a question that I would like to hear if you can answer for me. I have to remove the diesel injector pump on a Volvo Tamd 41b, year 1990. When I dismantle this pump, does the cam wheel / pulley need to be fixed? I have seen that a Timing Tool Kit for Landrover is avible. Is there anything similar for Volvo? Or how do you do it? Best regards Ben.

    Is this impeller use in the engine cooling water pump?

  • @gregdemos9240

    The blades of original impeller were downward facing, indicating a clockwise rotation of the impeller. The replacement blades were facing Upwards indicating a counter clockwise rotation. Will the blades reset to proper clockwise rotation once engine running & water pumping?

      Hi I noticed this also, however the impeller turns anti-clockwise or the long way round from inlet side to engine side. The impellers push the water around rather than pull the water around, imagine emptying a bucket of water with your hand. The blades or vanes will correct after 1 revolution. Hope this helps 😀

    This impeller was fitted incorrectly, at 0:34 to 0:46 you can clearly see the impeller is set to rotate in a clockwise direction, pushing the cold water up into the filter above. At 4:14 the impeller blades are facing the opposite direction to the rotation of the drive shaft. Hopefully on startup the blades will correct themselves without causing damage to the impeller.

    Hi Parker, thanks for the vid. There would have been a thin gasket that came with the new impeller. Can you tell why you never used it? In your opnion is it not needed?

    • @ParkerAdams
      @ParkerAdams  Před 3 lety +2

      Hi there, this type of impeller cover has a rubber oring seal, as shown in the video. This replaced most earlier pump housings which require the paper gasket instead. In the new impeller kit you usually get both types as the same impeller will fit in both pump types. Hope this helps, I will be putting more videos on so please subscribe to our channel.

    The impeller you took out the impeller blades were leaning left or counter clock wise but the one you installed the blades were leaning to the right or clock wise. Why????

    I see in the video that the impeller blades are installed the opposite way. So does this have an impact or do the blades rearrange themselves after 1 turn of the impeller?

    • @brucestrachan3368
      @brucestrachan3368 Před 2 lety +1

      They 'should' rearrange themselves. I would have twisted the impeller the other way, against the cam, so there is no doubt they are going the correct way.
      Once the cover plate's back on you'll never know if it's all good!!!

    • @ranierofrancesetti863
      @ranierofrancesetti863 Před rokem +2

      @@brucestrachan3368 Yes they should rearrange themselves but in very rare cases they don't. I had a overheating problem because of that.

    First note which way the blades go and fit the same way around ! Put a tye rap around new impeller to ease fiting , and you call yourself a professional! I think not!

    Don’t want to carry special tools for every task on a boat. Would have been interesting to see how to remove impeller without the tool.
