    Work continues on my 1985 Porsche 924. In this episode, I'm removing a complete wiring harness, brake booster with master cylinder, wiper mechanism, boot lock and motor, sunroof motor, steering column, pedals and rest of small bits and pieces... As I'm getting ready to deal with some rust and do some bodywork. This was a lot of work, and car was fighting me all the way but I'm glad I'm done with it. Who would have thought that a car from 1985 had so much wiring.

    Lol. I love the ending line. I'm pretty sure that like 99% of what you took off could have stayed on for body work. Love your work and channel. I know I won't be removing the wiring harness from my car after seeing this.

      Haha I'm scared just looking at that wiring mess! But there is no other way for me to learn, I'm just gona jump into it.... and do a lot of research, of course. It all needs to go... I'll be removing all sounds deadening, insulation, old paint, rust and repaint it all, in and out. I'm too far into it now to cut corners. Thank you for watching!

    Just out of experience I learned the hard way if you're going to repaint any tape you've had to label with masking tape put a tad bit of grease over the label so paint doesn't cover them..Nothing like trying to figure out just what was under that paint six months or a few years later.. I can't remember where I put my keys much less what I put on one of 900 labels covered up with paint. LOL

    Your car is much more luxurious than mine. A sunroof and an automatic hatch popper 😁. Good work on getting all of that wiring out, this must have taken ages!

      Thanks! Yeah, it was much more work than anticipated. I wish it was less luxurious... A ton of wiring , especially for such a old car. :D

      Same as mine, electric sun roof, and boot release. In the summer it’s really nice being able to open and close the roof, and for those really hot days take the roof panel out and it’s almost like a cabriolet:)

    The bolt you couldn't take off (for the steering shaft) is actually there for anti-theft reasons, atleast so i've heard from a porsche mechanic :)

    When I removed my windscreen on my 1978 I applied duct tape to both sides of it just to contain any glass shards. Worked well for me.

    Phew! That’s a big task stripping a car and there is a lot of stuff in a 924. I struggle to find enough space to store it all. If the windscreen has ‘cloudy’ edges then it’s started to delaminate and it might be worth replacing anyway? They are bonded into the car. Have you thought about what you are going to replace the engine firewall sound deadening with?

      @RestorationApprentice  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! Yeah, it was a lot of work. Windscreen appears to be in a really good shape but there might be hidden rust so I'll probably try to remove it. Problem is, if I break it, I can't find new or used one localy. I'm not sure about firewall... I'll look into it once I get to replacing it.

      @@RestorationApprentice I was asking about the sound deadening because it’s no longer available new. :)

      @@chrismadge7292 I'we seen someone on Instagram just painting it with heat resistant paint. Maybe one of those sticky pads you can shape, but they are silver looking?

      @@RestorationApprentice yes I think there are a few options. Once I’m finished with my engine I’ll be stripping the engine bay and repainting and replacing that stuff. I need to do some research, I’ll let you know what I decide to do.

    Amazing! How long did it take on real time? Also, for the connectors to the defrost on the hatch, do those wires have another connector inside the c pillar or are they a home run back to the fuse box?

    • @RestorationApprentice
      @RestorationApprentice  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! Few hours after work for about a week. No other connector, going strait to the fuse box.
