Porsche 944 Turbo // 20 Year Restoration Part 1

- This 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo was stopped in California for almost 2 decades, then was in the woods of Pennsylvania for the last few. It was in pretty rough condition outside, inside, and under the hood.
In this new series I’ll be restoring it to its former glory plus a few extra fun bits. I want to do a custom interior and a few power upgrades then either repaint it or do a vinyl wrap. Comment any colors you have in mind! The interior is mostly black with some yellow accents already.
I had a lot of fun working on this, so hopefully y’all enjoy it! I’m going to try to upload more videos so stay tuned!

If anyone has any ideas for colors to paint or wrap the car comment below! Right now Im thinking a light blue, factory color, black, or dark purple.
I may be biased but definitely blue… 3m gloss blue fire.

Black paint it gloss, don’t do a wrap
black would be cool
Eating pizza on the floor of the car in the winter was a vibe
lol yeah good times
Restoring this car will try your patience, determination, and the depths of your bank account! Those of us who choose this challenge are at various stages of restoration, as a lot of these cars have been abused by previous owners through lack of proper maintenance , incompetence, and proper care. Given the initial state of this car, perhaps you should consider focusing on arresting any further deterioration of the body and mechanicals. Unfortunately, due to the age of the vehicle, most of the rubber components will be shot, from hoses, fuel lines, engine mounts, suspension bushings, body seals. The engine lower end could be in good condition, and may only need replacing seals and gaskets. You should replace the timing belts before attempting to start the engine, as this is an interference engine. Good luck on your new project!
Thanks for the advise. I already did the timing belts before I tried to start it!
how much can i have in common with some random stranger on the internet. i found your channel through the electric go kart and now you're restoring a car i've been contemplating doing the same with. the world is a strange place
yeah it is weird. i’ve meet some people with lots of common interests. even more than just those couple you said
Amazing! Thank you for sharing this... Keep it up!
We're looking forward to following your progress on this 944!
This thing gonna be so clean 🔥
Yessir dude!
You should really paint the car whatever color will make you happiest. However, here are some things to ponder when you consider changing the color.
That car looks like it is Zermatt Silver. If so, this is a highly desirable color amongst 944 owners. If it's not Zermatt, than it is one of the rarer Silver colors, which by itself is a good thing.
Is there any way to rescue the paint as the car sits today? Hard to really tell by the video, it doesn't look bad. Porsche metallic paints are durable. If you detail the car yourself, spend an evening searching the web for the best methods to rescue Porsche paint. You'll find that methods that work well on other vehicles don't apply to P-cars. Original paint, even with a few flaws, adds to the value of your car.
That said, should you decide to respray the car, a fresh well-done coat of Zermatt looks awesome on that car. If you can, find a car in Zermatt Silver to see in person, pictures don't do it justice.
Something else, you're young, there is a chance you will want to sell this car someday for as much as you can. Changing the color will knock down the value of this car. Which would be a shame, because 944 Turbos are increasing in value, and likely won't come down.
Whatever you do, good luck and welcome to the family of 944 owners!
Thanks for the info! Its actually stone gray matalic, and i think if i do respray it ill do that color, but ill look into trying to restore it. the only issuse is theres a lot of clearcoat missing so is it possible to only respray clear or at that point should i just repaint the whole thing?
Sweet 951! Hope it can be saved!
