    Honestly, I think my favorite thing about Black Panther is how T’Challa ended up following Killmonger’s lead. He took a different approach to opening up Wakanda, but he realized that keeping the secret was how they were put into a Civil War. You don’t see many movie heroes do things like that, it’s usually “they’re wrong and I’m right”. T’Challa understood the villain’s motive and decided it could be a good direction to go in, just with a different method.

    • @nolansaylor7710
      @nolansaylor7710 Před 3 lety +181

      It would've been interesting to see Killmonger among the ancestors, not because he fully deserves it, but because his perspective could help. I don't mean his knowledge of war but his knowledge of the life of a person who grew up outside of advanced Wakanda.

      Killmonger wanted to rule the world and establish a global black supremacist order.
      T'Challa decided to end the Wakandan isolationist tradition and actively share in shouldering the world's burdens, promoting harmony among all the Earth's peoples.
      Only similarity is that both plans involve Wakanda no longer hiding itself.

      @@felynecomrade True. Killmonger, unlike T’Challa, grew up being abuse by American racism so he had it out for the colonizers. T’Challa, having grown up in Wakanda and seeing what the isolation did to Killmonger, wanted to help the world and let it in.

      Hello everyone! I would like to address something I have gotten many comments about. Yes, my background has changed because my recording space has changed. In my previous house we had a finished basement, and I would record there, and I was able to leave my recording equipment up (four lights, camera, tripod, mic, table, background etc). When we moved to this new house, I started recording in my living room but that was very difficult. It only allowed me to record during very limited days and hours (two hours a day on Mon and Fri). when the kids were not home, and I obviously could not leave all that equipment up because it was my living room, which means it wouldn't be fair to my family to have our entire living room acting as my recording space 24/7. And, it upped the chances of something getting broken, and I don't know about you, but I can't be replacing expensive items like that. Additionally, I got complaints about reflections in my glasses, etc, because I would have to take everything down and set it back up again every time I recorded, meaning that sweet spot where I was lit properly but didn't have a reflection in my glasses was hard to find again.
      So, I got the booth, put it in my basement and this allows me to not only record more often during the week because it's soundproof (meaning more videos, as you have seen this month) but, I could leave my equipment up so that sweet spot was always there. It has made my life easier and more productive. Now, I do plan on adding a back drop, putting some things in the back to make it more personal and homey, but there are also challenges there. One, it took a long time to get it set up and ready to use, and I just need a little break, and I have a lot of work to do, as well as family stuff happening. Two, it's going to take time and money to plan exactly what I want to do with it. Do I want to get a green screen and change up the background? Maybe, but then I have to learn how to use a green screen, and we all know how dumb I am with technology. Maybe I'll just put a back drop, a nice lamp, some books etc, like my last recording area, but that still takes planning and funds since most of that stuff either will not fit (so I have to get smaller, scaled down versions) or is being used elsewhere in the house now.
      I am working on turning the booth into something that is great, but it's one of those "do you want it done fast or right" sort of situations, and I'd like to get it right. For now I am happy that the sound quality is top notch, and I have the lighting set up where you don't see reflections in my glasses, since these have been challenges in the past, and I only ask that you allow me to enjoy these small successes for a little while before I move on to the next challenge. Some of you have said you are unsubscribing specifically because of the background, I am very sorry you feel that way, because my content hasn't changed, and I think the video quality has only gotten better. I am only one person, I don't work with a team. I do my own research, writing, editing, posting, thumbnails, everything, and as much as I LOVE what I do, it takes a lot of time, leaving very little for anything else. But, if you can be patient with me for a few weeks, let me catch up and get back on track, I promise the background will be so much more cozy and Harlowe like, it's really going to be great, but sometimes finding that perfect set up takes a little time. For those of you want to unsubscribe, I can't stop you, but check back in a little while and see if it's more to your liking, and maybe you will rejoin the community.
      For those of you who have had my back and have been understanding, patient and awesome since the start, I really appreciate you from the bottom of my heart. You know how hard it gets to be a human sometimes, you know none of us is perfect but we are all trying our best, and you are the ones who keep me going every day, even some days where I feel a little down.
      Thanks for reading this book. I'll see you in the next video!

You hit all the points and messages of what i think Marvel and Ryan Coogler were trying to convey with this movie. Your research is appreciated 👏🏽

    Totally agree on one of your last points. I'm black, and African, and I see no reason why anyone has to qualify their enjoyment or love of this film by first saying "I'm not black/I don't share this culture but...". The film is fantastic; anyone can love it. The same way everyone has been loving films for the past however many years. Most of the characters in BP are relatable in a variety of ways beyond their skin color. I think that's one of the strengths of the movie--the variety in the character's personalities/bearings. So, yeah, just . . . enjoy things, everyone. :)

      What saddens me about the hype for BP was only the fact that it was an almost exclusively black actors/actresses movie. My friend and I have been to every MCU and DC movie since Guardians 1 and almost never seen black people in the theaters.
      BP came out and it was packed. Only a hand full of white people when we seated and when we came out. Great for the box office. Infinity war? Saw two black people in the theater.
      And I live in South Africa. 80% black population. I might be wrong in thinking this, but I think a very large amount of black people went to watch it just for the sole reason that it is a "African" movie, and have no interest in the MCU or comic movie franchise.

He believes in keeping Wakanda hidden and down low. Erik, on the other hand, picks the larger, more flashy necklace that T'Challa previously turned down. Kinda surprised that you didn't point out that part of Killmonger's plan, to have Wakanda rule as the dominant nation of the world, was pretty much the exact same thing, same mistake, Europeans and Americans did during and after the Age of Discovery; the idea that his culture is superior to another's because they're technology is more advanced.

      @spacedoyster7686 Před 5 lety +112

      I thought it would be a win, assuming I'm even right about Killmonger's plan. Killmonger is ignoring history and his ideas are in opposition to T'Challa's, who had no interest in making Wakanda the head of a global empire. It gives us another reason to want T'Challa to succeed.

      @nickelbug0707 Před 5 lety +99

      Spaced Oyster It is mentioned though, around 22:10. His outline for his retaliation/redemption is a product of where he grew up. That’s what makes him such a tragic character. He wants to be a part of Wakanda, but Ross says he’s “one of ours”. Erik may not even realize how much he is “one of ours”. Personally, that stuck with me because as an African- American there is always this longing to be apart of something traditionally African, but also an uncomfortable feeling in the back of my mind that, through different systematic processes, I’m a foreigner to that culture. I’m culturally American, and my behavior reflects this. I LOVE being American, I’m proud of it, but there’s always that subconscious question of “what if??”. I think Erik personified that feeling perfectly.

    Okay, but every moment Shuri is on screen is a win for a multitude of reasons.
    Also, I absolutely adore the minute but very telling character interactions in the end credits scene: We knew from Civil War that Bucky would undergo a healing process using Wakandan technology, which Shuri is obviously the head of. Assuming this healing process would've allowed access to Bucky's memories and emotions (everything he went through), Shuri would've been right there seeing through Bucky's eyes in a way that not even Steve was quite able to. She would've greatly sympathized with Bucky and done he best to give him back control of his mind, and make the healing process as easy as possible. Shuri was shown to have a high capacity for compassion, through her support of T'challa during the challenges, her combat designs being focused mainly around protection, and her immediate takeover of Ross's spinal surgery. I love how when Bucky emerges from his hut, she greets him with, "Good morning, Sergeant Barnes." Respectfully addressing him by his military title. Keep in mind: Bucky was initially held responsible for T'chacka's murder (news which no doubt got back to Shuri before T'challa went to Siberia), and chances are, Bucky would no longer be considered honorable military personal due to his history of international terrorism and ultimate tyranny against the US. Shuri is *literal freaking royalty,* but she has so much compassion and respect for this "broken white boy" (I will never not laugh at this line) she's essentially been nursing. And the *first thing* she asks, is how he's feeling.
    And Bucky's responses: he seems genuinely touched and humbled. Bucky's essentially been treated with the same compassion you'd treat a machine gun with: he's been tortured, experimented on, stripped of his humanity, and basically used as an arsenal with brains and the ability to follow orders. Since his escape, he's laid low around the world, and hunted mainly by agencies for merely being Hydra's trigger finger. He's dealt with sporadic memory loss/regain, guilt, imposed self-loathing, shock, and identity crisis for years, all while evading ruthless pursuers after him for what he doesn't know he really did. So for Bucky to hear a literal princess refer to him with such gentleness and respect must be overwhelming for him, a respect he hasn't had since he was a different man in the forties. He's extremely grateful to Shuri for healing his mind, and surprised by her respect for him. So Bucky humbles himself and asks Shuri to just call him Bucky.
    And after this, Shuri insists on continuing to help Bucky adjust and learn, take his life back into his own hands. All in all, just a very sweet character interaction - that while I'd LOVE to see more of, it's not entirely necessary - and there's so much depth you can read into just those 45 seconds.

    • @mellowenglishgal
      @mellowenglishgal Před 4 lety +31

      Freedom Fighter I LOVE this comment. That tiny clip shows the two characters stripped back to their core: Bucky, weary, broken, but he got out of bed (the fact that he didn’t attack the kids on instinct for waking him is huge), and Shuri, gentle, respectful of boundaries, she’s calm, compassionate and deeply intuitive. She allowed Bucky to come to her. It speaks of a bond that has been developed over time, it shows that Shuri has invested her time in him, and in giving his name for her to use, so casually, it’s also Bucky acknowledging his trust in her, and the respect he has for her, in spite of her age. It was also nice to see Shuri pared back, not the most charismatic person in the room - I love her in every scene she’s in, but calm and patient suits her very well, and speaks to the kind of woman she could become: Calm, brilliant and compassionate?! To draw Avengers comparisons, put Tony’s and Bruce’s brains together, add Clint’s intuition, Cap’s heart and courage and decency, and Natasha’s tenacity and brilliance, with the rich culture and heritage of Wakanda, you’ve got Shuri.
      I could honestly watch a mini-series of Bucky’s recovery with Shuri, Okoye (because you know the General would be distrustful, given everything, and then grudgingly respectful, then compassionate and accepting) and T’Challa, who may even look at Bucky, with his history, and be reminded of his cousin, and how awfully the world treated them.
