The idea of king kong as a ronin like character is honestly a really interesting take, and it definitely fits how he acts in this movie.

Nope bro, he made like 550 milion at the box office, was one of the biggest success of 2017 and one of the highest grossing movies at the box office in 2017, the most successful movie of the monsterverse universe, and of the director. He get a nomination to the Oscar. The special effects are impressive. And he had Toby kebbel (who play King Kong and also a little character, like Andy serkis in King Kong 2005), Brian Larson, John C Reilly, Tom hiddleston, JOHN GOODMAN and SAMUEL FUCKING L JACKSON...how can you call this movie underrated? Is one of the most fucking awesome popcorn movies of recent years. The only thing that I hate he had forgettable characters, like the characters of Jing Tian, Thomas Mann, John Ortiz and Marc Evan Jackson
LOCA me, my friend and everyone else who i know watched this movie literally forgot about it and i only just reminded them of this movie today because of this vid lmao. it did really well, yes. but a lot of people, well in my case at least, completely forgot it existed after a couple months
Of the three Kaijuverse films, it's my favourite. It's balances it's human characters with it's Kaiju way better than the two Godzilla movies who's human stories tend to weigh the films down or just get in the way.

That'd be nice. It's heavily underrated imo. The 3D is nice and well done, the action is great, the comedy is nice, it's overall a nice movie, a hidden gem if I ever saw one.
I don't think it's that "story is not important," rather that it's "a story doesn't need to be complex or complicated to be impactful." A well-told but simple story is better than a poorly-told complicated story. Sure, it's easier to tell a simple story well. . . that's why it's simple. But there's nothing inherently wrong with knowing you want to tell a simple, straightforward tale and committing to doing that in the best way you can. Guillermo Del Toro took that approach for Pacific Rim, and it worked perfectly. And much as I love an intelligent, thought-provoking narrative, heart is more important. The most cerebral stories fall flat if they have no heart, and the most simplistic stories soar if they have an abundance of it. And Kong: Skull Island had tons of heart.
John C. Reilly is really an underrated performer. Honestly, he did more with "Mr. Cellophane" in Chicago than most of that cast did in the whole rest of the movie, and that film was chalk full of legendary actors turning in amazing performances.

Took me a minute but when Wins says “he’s still got a little Lennie in him” I think that’s a reference to Of Mice and Men where there’s a character called Lennie who (on many occasions) accidentally kills anything from mice to women. Very good Wins

I love everything about this movie. The cast, the monsters, the soundtrack (especially the soundtrack, some great classic rock in it), it's all awesome.
I'd love, just one time, for someone to look a captain in the eye in one of these movies when they inevitably say "My men were killed by this thing!" and respond with "Had you not ordered them to fight, they'd still be alive".
I was a little surprised that you didn't mention how almost every image in this movie - especially on the island - can be turned into a beautiful painting 👍🏻

Whether or not Legendary's MonsterVerse lasts long enough or becomes something more, Kong: Skull Island will always have a place in my heart. It's one of those films that prove that, sometimes, style over substance can work, especially if you know what kind of film your making or getting into.
Kong: Skull Island is just a fun movie from start to finish, and I love nearly every minute of it.
Skinwalker aka the “naagloshii” or “yee naaldlooshii” one of my personal favorite Navajo myths, and one of my favorite Dresden Files baddies.

Her inflection, cadence, pauses, and overall intonation were so good I thought for sure this was done professionally. Honestly her delivery was better than most ads, because it was somehow just pleasantly captivating.

To be honest, I LOVE all the references to classic anime masterpieces like Akira and Eva.Because there aren't just good anime, they are piece of art, not dumb fanservice like 93% of anime are.

I've recently been catching up on a few movies that I've had on the back burner, and I'm glad that this and Godzilla KotM was worth the time.
The people behind these movies were massive geeks, MGS, anime references, AND it wasn't until 17:24 that I finally got the Tomb Raider and Uncharted outfit references.
Kind of a missed opportunity, when Randa says, “there’ll never be a more screwed up time in Washington.” You could’ve shown the scene in King of the Monsters where Ghidorah and Rodan destroy Washington. Still a good video!

a detail I noticed on my rewatch of the movie - on 12:58, when the big Skullcrawler Ramarak turns after getting shot with the flare, you can actually see the path of chipped scales Brooks' shooting tore up their face. And in a shot not seen in this video, when Kong uppercuts the Skullcrawler with the propellor, you can briefly see where it clawed at it's eye (at 13:02) trying to get the flare out.
I absolutely love the color pallet of this movie. Very pretty. I also love the sound of the helicopter blades beating very rhythmically.
