- May 14, 2020 marks the 35th Anniversary of the last International Harvester tractor rolling off the production line at the FARMALL Works in Rock Island, IL. The last IH tractor was a 187 PTO HP 5488. This video shares International Harvester's history and salutes the 5 million plus tractors the company built. On November 26, 1984 Tenneco squired International Harvester's Agriculture Division and merged it with J.I. Case. Case International continued building Red Power tractors. Today Case IH is one of the largest farm equipment makers in the world. .
I share 10 of my favorite International tractor filming finds in this video, Watch for these IH tractors.

Growing up we had the IH 560 and the 706. The 706 was always my favorite.
We had 2 1256 Internationals bought in 1969 and pulled it against a 5020 JD and there was no comparison. The 1256 pulled everything we hooked on to at least one mph faster than the JD. Loved those tractors and put 6000+ hrs. on one and over 8000 hrs. on the other one.
Great history.
Importar tractores de esta marca de segunda cero horas de reparación sería ideal para el campo colombiana en la gama de 70 a 180 hp. @@bigtractorpower
Have operated M, 400, 806, 1206, 856, 1086, 403 combine and 915 combine. Owned 915, 856 and 1086, still have 856 and 1086. Both tractors are wonderful, favorite 856. Steady all day worker on small amount of fuel.
We owned 2 IH tractors in Serbia in the 90s and 00s. One was a 1066 in yellow color, and the other was a 1086 in white color. Both of them had double wheels in the back. I was just a little kid but I always wanted to sit in the cabin with my father in the 1086 since you could seat in the back in that tractor. A few times I even fell asleep in that tractor as a kid. I remember that they never wanted to start up on the first try so we always used K2 spray to start it up.
The IH emblem on International Harvester vehicles and equipment always catches my eyes, and is my favorite trademark in most industry machinery since i was a kid.."
Favorite one is the German built 1455. 😉 IH also has quite a history over here in Europe and used to be one of the biggest here too. I do own an IH McCormick D 430 from 1961 and a IHC 433 from 76 both built in Neuss, Germany.
When I was 7 or 8 my grandfather would take me to the Hightstowm market. The IH tractor building in the front of the property had an 806 inside. I would jump on that tractor and dream. 20 years later I would drive that tractor in Yardville over many acres.
Favorite IH is anything with a V8 and those long nosed tractors with duals front and rear.
When I was in high school in the mid 70’s I worked for a guy that was an international dealer mechanic and went on his own. We worked on everything but mostly international tractors and trucks. I learned a lot about international and how to work on them. My favorite was probably the M and the 1066. My son has a nice 666 with a loader. Thanks for the video
My grandad had lots of older Farmall tractors but that was before I was born (Dec 1960) and when he passed away suddenly in Nov. that same year, my dad took over the farm at 24 years old. He eventually bought a 806, 966, 1086, 1466, 5088, 686 and a 7130. We still have the 966, 686 and 7130, but the 5088 caught fire in the field last year and burned up... a complete loss. My favorite was the 1466.
Sorry to hear of your grandfathers sudden passing. Your family has some great red power.
My dads 1985 5288 caught on fire last year as well luckily it was just the turbo and we are lucky that the insurance company coved most of it
I started driving a 1066 turbo at age of 9. My grandpa used primarily a 966. We also had a 706 we cultivated with. Love those IH tractors
Spent many hours on IH Farmalls. My uncle farmed with 560, 400, and an H. The 560 being the main workhorse of the farm. I can still hear the 560 as my uncle throttles and lowers the 4 bottom plow. Loved the sound of the 6cyl engine. Great memories!
I was lucky enough to grow up on a grain farm in the 80's and 90's. We had a few H's, 706, 856, 1066, 1566, 3788, 1440 and 1460 Combines. It was a great way to grow up and I would not trade it for anything. I'm always looking to connect to that time and this video was great. Thank you for sharing.
My father had a 856 and a 1206. Wonderful machines !! I loved driving them
We have never owned an IH tractor but when my great grandfather built my house, he bought a new International Harvester deep freeze and put it in the house. It's still there and still works!!!
Very cool. The refrigeration units were built in Evansville, IN. I drive by the old plant a few times a year. Very cool item to have.
@@bigtractorpower cool. I'm up in Washington, about one hour north of Evansville. Makes sense we would have one.
It is my dream when I came back my country
Don't throw it away, even if it quits. There are a lot of people out there that collect them.
William Fick My grandfather was the I H dealer in the county where I grew up, such as I did. I started working for him in grammer school, a dollar a day. I still have my H.
I learned to drive on an H Farmall hauling in tobacco when I was 6 years old. I had to sit on the very edge of the seat to be able to reach the clutch. Later on at 10 years old, I got to work for a neighbor cutting hay, chopping silage, etc. and he mainly used an International 966. That was my all time favorite. My mother about had a heart attack the first time she looked up from hanging out laundry on the line and saw little me driving that huge tractor down the road pulling a haybine to get to the next alfalfa field to cut. She thought I was RIDING on the tractor, she didn't realize I had actually been cutting hay...lol. So those 2 are my favorites. He had a 674 that I liked too.
I grew up on JI Case equipment but have had the pleasure to run several IH tractors and my favs are 1066, 1206, 1586 and the low boy for mowing grass.
We run Case IH on the farm in Illinois plus a couple of New Holland from same dealer.
Didn't have to wait long to see my favorite red tractor: the 1066. If I knew someone with IH equipment, they most certainly had a 1066 or a 1086.
When my great grandpa bought a 1066 it was the biggest tractor in the county
We gottem both we farm with a 66,
86, 560, m and h
International harvester was one of greatest tractor manufacturers in the world. I worked at Louisville works for over 15 years. I loved the tractors I have several old farmalls and a 1486 the super m is one of my favorites.
When did they close Louisville
@@CheeseMiser about nov. of 1983
I'm sorry but the best International tractors were built in Neuss😂
I grew up on a dairy farm in north central Wisconsin. We had the H, M, 966, and 1086. It was the 1980's when I spent the most time on them before pursuing a career outside of farming. I'll always remember my hours on those red tractors as some of my best memories from that time.
I grew up in Western New York. The 1086 was the big tractor on many area dairy farms until the 7120 Magnum came along.
I grew up on what now would be considered a small dairy farm in southwest Wisconsin in the 70s and early 80s. Our tractors… 706, 560 and the Super M were my favorites! Thank you for the great memories
Thank you for watching. The 706, 560 and Super M are great IH tractors.
I learned to drive on a IH 274 and spent many hours on Dad's 140 Hi-Clear. My two favorites though are the 826 as it was the first large row crop tractor I ran and the 5X88 series. The 1400 series Axial flows also hold a soft spot in my heart.
Very nice. I hope to film a 1480 Axial Flow. I have filmed a 1420, 1440’and 1460.
Favorite? My 1949 Farmall Cub
It is small, but it is fierce.
My grandfather and father all had International tractors and combines. Our last four tractors were 1066,986,686,484 and the last combine was a 715 international combine. All classic and some of the best that there was.
Nice line up. I am always on the hunt to film 15 series combines.
@@bigtractorpower hard to find there's a few here in Oregon though. In the Willamette Valley that is. And I really like all your episodes too. Especially the classics and the 8850 John Deere clips too
@@bigtractorpower we had a 615 here in the 90s and a neighbor had the diesel 715. We had 2 and one was for parts and when they were scraped we kept the engine off the 615s because they are the same on the 656 tractor we still use.
I grew up with Ih when dad so tired the horses bought Far all C and Super C new new, farmall 460 and Farmall 706 German dsl were his biggest tractors. I don't farmall but own farmall Cub, 504, 686, 766, 806, 1456, 1566 all favorites and enjoy all of them.
806! Purrs like a kitten; love that straight 6
1566 White stripe!! I basically grew up in that tractor. I love IH, what other company could you drive their truck to the field and run their tractors and implements all day and then go home open your IH freezer and fridge and eat a great supper!
Own a 706, but 1066 is my favorite. Also like the 5488
Dad farmed with a Super M, 706, 826, 856. The 826 was his only new tractor and by far my favorite
All tractors are cool, but I have a special place in my heart for Ih tractors, they’re my favorite farm equipment brand. We have several Ih tractors that get used on our farm...I love driving them
I was always excited to the IH dealer as a kid. It was a great time in farming.
Love watching the old international tractors. I was raised on a farm driving a super A, 140, 574 and 674. Great tractors for farming 100 acre farm raising tobacco, corn and soybeans. Love your channel. Look forward to more videos and videos with Matt.
I love all Ih tractors!! I can’t have a favorite!!
IMO the 1206 is the prettiest tractor IH ever made!
At the age of 12 , I first drove a 1586 IH dual wheels in the back, then moved on to a 5488 for a few years, then a front wheel assist 7240 Case IH, We planted and harvested rice in south west Louisiana. Our first 4 wd tractor was a Case IH 9150.
Oh, man, i love these old iron giants!
Greetings from south tyrol, the northest part of italy
The Farmall cub was the first tractor I learned to drive on my own! Still a favorite!
👍👍
Learned to drive on a McCormack international B-275 built in Bradford UK in 1956. 38 engine hp , pto 30 hp . Hi lo range 8 forward 2 reverse great little tractor still going today. Great videos good job man 👍👍👍👍👍
We had a 1964 706, diesel. I was born in '66, so I grew up with that tractor. I think it has 30,000 hours on it. I know we changed the tachometer on it 3 times for sure. Good old horse, still running.
I loved the sound of a 1468 with the V8 and twin stacks.
Never seen one
My favorite IH tractors out of all the ones I've drove have to be the 2 656's that we had and my great grandpa's super c. Raked a lot of hay with the C. We also had a 350 utility when I was very young, don't remember it very well.
1949 M Farmall..Just a damn good machine
The M is one of the all time greats 👍👍
My favorite IH will be the european made 1455XL, thats a legend😊
Nice video.
Which also was the last built tractor that was constructed by IH. Case IH cancelled it in 1996.
I grew up on my uncles IH 666. We still use that tractor almost daily and is still my favorite tractor, although my 1066 is a close second
I spent a lot of hours eating dirt on both the 966 & 1066 with the open cab like the 966 in the video. Brings back a lot of good memories! Thanks for the great video! Keep it up!
The 66 series are one of the all time greats. I grew up watching several 1066s in my neighborhood. Thank you for watching.
In 1977 I coaxed my dad into buying an 806 at an auction. Huge step up from our M and one heck of a workhorse. When I sold my 75 cows 4 years ago and retired I had a super H, two M's, 656 gas, 886, 806, 1566, 3588 2+2, and a JD A! The 15 and 2+2 went to my nephew's farm and are getting a lot of use but I will never get rid of the 806. Along with the letter series some of the toughest machines ever made. They just keep running forever it seems.
We had a 966 with the cab and an open station 806. Both worked good, but the 966 was pretty rough and probably needed an overhaul. Never wanted to lug down low, which seems uncommon. 806 was a true workhorse and is still in the family after selling everything else. Hour meter rolled over at least once, maybe twice!
The 806 is a solid tractor. The 66 series are also good.
My favorite international tractor is simply all of them because it's so hard to choose just one.
Ikr
😁👍👍👍👍
Me too
The only way to have a favorite lime you said is have them all. You look at one and tho I ...this is perfect for some job Nd another is perfect for another. Lol. Awfull decision ain't it
One question, then why do you have a picture of a White
We grew up with a 966 and 1066 the most amazing workhorse and then us 5 boys left from home and now we all have a international, one 886 and the rest either 966 or 1066. The 66 series is my all-time favorite.
Thank you for showing these classic tractors Big Tractor Power.
Like the 1206 and 806.. had a 806 on the family farm growing up.
The M will always be my favorite. I have 3 and still use them.
Asking what my favorite IH tractor is like asking which child is my favorite. I'm gonna have to go for the 504 and 560 because I spent so much time on them as a kid. Both have very distinctive sounds that I can still remember it to this day. Spent a lot of tillage time in our 966 as well.
I worked for a young farmer in south central Kansas, back in the late 1990s. Every tractor and combine was red, being a John Deere man I was running red paint. He had about every one of your favorites. Don’t remember all the numbers, but my favorite was a Perkins powered two wheel drive. The mufflers were shot so I put two straight pipes on it, ma was it loud when she was pulling hard. She would blow smoke about 40 to 50 feet in the air on a windless day. What a thrill. Loved that diesel smoke smell. Miss those days. Keep up the good work.
I grew up with IH tractors. Spent a lot of time running an 826 and a 1086. I never got a chance to drive an 88 (50 series) but I remember being 10 years old when they first showed up at the dealer ship. It was the first time I saw an International with front wheel assist. It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw at the time. 5488 is still my favorite tractor to this day.
👍👍. I remember when the 88 series came out in 1982. At first I thought these don’t look right they are all red where is the white cab and decals. I am
Always excited to find an 88 to film now.
i own an IH 744, it s a hell of a tractor!
Until recently all we ran was internationals and over years you just really start to realize how amazing and we'll built tractors they were. They don't make them like that anymore and no tractor company ever will
same here in Germany czcams.com/video/wH9FdynyA68/video.html, czcams.com/video/KpkhCqSzsPk/video.html
in the 50's Dad had a Farmall M on our farm in Upstate NY; plowed and plowed snow with it; chopped corn; picked corn; combined with an Allis Chalmers All Crop 60, baled hay with an IH baler. We had a Super C bought in 1953 to replace our BN for planting, spraying, cultivating, and taking the wagons to and from the barn. It was nimble, practical, and had a very sensitive governor. Sensed a load change and revved to accommodate it. Guess that was my favorite. My sister still farms with that 1953 Super C.
I have a restored 1947 Cub w/o hydraulics that is the only tractor that almost killed me, also the smallest. My Dad purchased it in 1956. I had a 1959 460 that I was very fond of and get nostalgic for whenever I see a 460 or 560.
There all my favorite!! I currently own a 62 504 diesel utility that was my granddads and use it every chance I get!!
I'm not sure what ours year is but it's a 504
Learned how to drive a tractor, sitting on grandpa’s lap, turning that old H’s steering wheel.
I just cant believe how they have access to just such a large variety of fruits , trees and plants. Feels like they live in paradise. Fresh produce right on their door step , surrounded by nature and enjoyed together in a close knit family and community! All the money in the world cant buy what they have.
I grew up in South Georgia. From the summer of 1983 until 1989 I worked on a neighbor's farm, which ran several International Harvester tractors. '70 826 Gold Demonstrator, '72 766, '74 1566 & '74 574. My favorite was the 766.
When I was a kid my daycare lady's husband was a case ih salesman, I remember going in with her at times and seeing a sea of 5488 and green stigers, it was the mid 90s and local farmers were trading them in on the new magnums, been a huge fan of red paint since then, kinda conflicting since I come from a John Deere family, haha
Hashaa
2+2
Really cool video. I do love old school tractors. I know your proud of yours! I enjoy your videos and narrating. Keep up the good work BTP!!
Thank you for watching. I enjoy working in the field with my 4786.
Nice video. IH was very popular in our area in the '70s and '80s. Very fond memories of operating the 4166, 3788, 3588, 1456, 1466, 1468 (Of course it had the deluxe cab, belly mounted auxiliary fuel tank, chrome pipes and chrome heat shields lol), 1066, and all sorts of utility size tractors from the 606 to 574, 684.
What a great IH line up. I want to find a 4166 to film. I have always thought it was a very cool tractor.
@@bigtractorpower There weren't many 4166s in our area. The ones I saw all seemed to be cranked up to higher hp which meant they ran with straight pipe exhausts. It was a beast! Used it to pull a 32 foot Vibrashank cultivator and occasionally a 24 ft. disc. .Small by today's standards, but uncommon in those days.
Grew up with my Dad’s 986 and my Grandpa’s 1486, both had been turned up by the previous owner. We put a ton of hours on them and they always worked. We lost both in a fire, when our barn burned down Christmas morning of 2011. Now we have a Case Magnum 110 and Case Magnum 7120
Best company that ever existed
👍👍
Agreed
Indeed! 35 years since the last one and you still see them everyday! Perfect workhorses and great simple design! Still 3 IH's for daily use 😁
Always
Agreed unfortunately lack of r&d and that pos mcCardell didn't help anything
I really enjoyed that video! Thank you so much.
The 1066 all day 👍✌😉
Thank you for watching.
My grandfather had a 1940 Farmall M which I spent a lot of time on so that is my favorite. When I find myself out driving in rural areas love seeing how many of those old Farmall's still out there working!
When a little fella, I’m 63 now, we had a Super M D. I was alway afraid of it for some reason. We replaced it with a 656 diesel. I did a lot of work with that ole boy. I have an M gasoline that my grandson just adores. Life is good.
Any cattleman that had a Hydro 3488 a Hydro 186 or Hydro 100 with a loader on it would say it was one of handiest tractors made of any brand. They also worked very well on a snowblower, mixer feeder wagon, and are great on big round balers. The 826 & 656 were ok as haying tractors, just very underpowered, none of them were any good for field work, but they served their purpose very well in other areas on the farm.
The dumbest thing Tennoco did was pull the plug on IH. They finally began building a LARGE tractor able to compete with Deere's. So many of them are still working today
My dad had a super mta and I use to standup in front of him when I was small and steer and when I started farming I bought a 1256 .Love both those tractors and still have them. They run forever !
Great tractors and machinery.. I grew up with grandpas Farmall H and a M dad had a 460 and a Black stripe 966 also had a international 540 manure spreader a 430 small square baler a 990 international haybine international 5100 grain drill all bought from the same dealership grandpa said if the dealer takes care of the customer don’t go anywhere else and to this day even though the land is rented out, I still bought my first tractor a CaseIH 30c at the same dealership...thanks for the great videos 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Very nice red power line up. Thank you for sharing.
My favorite International was an 806. It was the first diesel tractor I ever operated. I loved the TA on the transmission. I baled a lot of hay and did secondary tillage with that strong machine.
The 806 is one of the all time greats.
U wouldn't believe how many ta's I seen my father tear apart. That was the week point of th 706,806, etc, that and the pro clutches
It was always the bearing that would let go often messing up the crown wheel and pinion the clutch. They were are nice tractor to drive with plenty of power to the ground
My favorite international tractor is the 1066 black stripe.
Worked for my uncle in the late 70s. He had a 4568 1566 1456 4388 966 hydro 1206 706 gas 300 drove them all. Lots of good memories.
I spent many hours on my grandpa's farm back in the day raking hay with a Farmall H and discing with a 666. A neighbor had a 4786 and I loved watching and hearing that beast work.
👍👍. Thank you for sharing.
I have a black stripe 1466. She’s a rippa. Straight piped too.
I learned farming on a super M. We still have it and a 400. As for a favorite, just too many to choose from

I live a few miles East of the Rock Island plant and grew up with these: Farmall M, 300, 560, 706, and 966. We were lucky enough to have a tour of the plant during production just before they closed. An amazing people and facility.
I have a 1947 Farmall C narrow front end. Used for fun at a steam and antique tractor show. Love the sound of that little 6 cylinder engine.
Very cool.

I always like the 806 and the 1456
My first experience with a Farmall was a truck farmer my parents knew a got me a job picking vegetables for in the summer. He had a 1950’s era H. I quickly learned why he told me to never have it in 5th gear down hill ‼️. I was 13 years old. My fathers uncle and cousins farmed with mostly international equipment but I never got to work with them. I later worked with a friend and he had two 1468’s. I plowed quite a few acres with it and an 6-18 on-land I H plow. I did some custom work for a friend with a 2+2 and a JD 6-18 in-furrow plow. I liked the 2+2 but I have to say the 14 was my favorite of them all !!!
I cherish my late father's 454 hydro , with rear mounted 2ton forklift and variable weight box on the front my father designed to in load. Bricks in the 1970s. His answer to deliver bricks on in even building sights before fwd tractors. I found it 40yrs later. I have a Aw6 loader, and 2 A554 one a front mounted forklift. Mum still has our 384 bought new in 70s. And we had a B250 rear mounted forklift as well, I know we're that is and first on the call list. How ever I am looking for a big articulated inter for my small farm. And I have an old 1972 4x4 c1600 firetruck with a Perkins diesel. I also have an Ex Australian army ACCO 6x6 army truck. And did my truck licence in a ACCO T liner water tanker 12500ltr from my old fire brigade. As a kid of 5yrs we drove an Atkinson 8v71 and a transtar in a local show Grand parade for the local international dealer as kids we were so cool hanging out the passenger window , a prowd moment thankyou international
In my country very poor of this so now I working at korea, nowadays I am is a repairman tractor 🚜 I fix a lot of per day, I hope I can shearing of my work to the world.
Would have to be the 1486 we had before we purchased the 7120 magnum
My favorite.... All of them. I just love IH and have as long as I can remember. Maybe I'm crazy but it just seems that we always got much more tractor for the money than any of the other brands. Not bad mouthing the other brands by no means but the numbers and what we could do with the IH's was very apparent.
IH was a great tractor maker. It’s always neat getting to film them in the field to capture some red history.
THANK YOU SO MUCH. I AM SO IMPRESSED!!!!! I LOVE ALL FARM EQUIPMENT. BOTH NEW AND VINTAGE. PLEASE CONTINUE TO INNOVATE. GREAT VIDEO AND THANKS FOR SHARING. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SHARE YOUR TRUTH.
My favorite is the 856 XL made in Germany, which my father almost bought in 1984, but got wind of the financial hard times IH was in, and chose a different brand of tractor at the time. My father farmed in northern Jutland, Denmark. Here is a link to its specs: www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/002/3/0/2309-international-harvester-856xl.html
The anniversary of a sad day......Cyrus was rolling over in his grave!
I was raised on a tobacco farm in the western Piedmont of NC. Every farmer in my community and probably every tobacco farmer in Nc before the 1980 had a Farmall to cultivate with. Mostly the Cub. We had one and it was the first tractor I ever drove. There were 100’s140’s,super A’s,H’sM’s but very few of the bigger Tractors. Most people’s workhorses here was Ford. Most folks couldn’t afford the IH tractors in 40hp and up. And really didn’t need them. I’ve always loved and own cub cadets. And I always looked in awe at the big giant Red Tractors. But I’d have to say that lil Farmall Cub which replaced 2 horses is my favorite.
Thank you for sharing. Burley and Dark tobacco are big crops here in Kentucky where I live. The A, B, 100 and 140s were the tractors to have. There were still allot of 140s in use 20 years ago. With the U.S. tobacco settlement several years ago there are fewer producers and now I see 200 hp tractors 6 row 38 inch cultivators working tobacco.
I was raised on a dairy farm, and in 1950, I was 4 yrs old and was steering a H Farmall between rows of haybales. There was a H and M Farmall on the farm for many years then a B414 was acquired and then finally a 706. The farm was then closed down and I went into public work. I now own a H Farmall and an IH 574 and have retired in the past few years from cutting and selling hay.
Shows what happens when the unions try Toruń the business they want to work for. The economy may have been bad,but what really happened to ihc was the unions wanted to control them.
