With that IH 1256 you sure weren't lacking for power to make hay. Beautiful example. Spent most of my teen summers behind a NH self-propelled (65 HP) and cut it with a Farmall M (25 HP) and a 7' finger-bar mower. Dad ran the baler and I tossed the hay. Some of my best memories. Thanks

Grew up with the Farmall 504 and 656. Made thousands of square bales, hand stacked on a flat wagon behind then offloaded at the barn. Kept us young fellas in great shape:)
Those were the days. My first job in 6th grade was unloading wagons filled by a kick Baler. I am a 656 fan. Great tractor.
Not since 1999, when my grandpa passed. But, we ran a 766 with 430 bailer, loaded on wagons old fashioned way, then tossed into barn above horse stalls, isle down middle between row of stalls hay on both sides. We produced roughly 1800 per year. Grandpa loved his hay burners. Had couple beef cows as well. Don't think my allergies would allow it today. Thanks for video. Brought back memories

That accumulator + skid steer setup is pretty trick, looks like the grapple ties them into bundles, stacked on large pallets - pretty cool setup to handle a large quantity with the right equipment

Old School deja vu! This was the way we harvested hay & straw. Great you included this and not your only focus on big and modern machinery.

BTP can only shoot what it being used currently and almost all agricultural is big and modern.

When I was little we used a JD 3020 w/cab and a JD baler ( don’t remember the number) w/ a kicker. The local football team would come to the farm in August to get in shape for the season. They would rotate crews. Stacking the wagon. Stacking in the hay mow and resting.
Enjoyed seeing the 826, 1256, & 1466 tractors & the 430 &445 balers. I've just got a couple of acres of hay that I do using my Farmall 806 diesel with a M & W turbo on it. I pair it up with a Johm Deere 260 disc mower, New Holland 254 Tedder/Rake, & a New Holland 565 square baler. Finally got my second cut of hay done this week. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
I’ve put a lot of bales across a Hoelscher accumulator just like the one behind that 826 with several 806s. They’re awesome when everything is working in unison. When things get out of adjustment, it can make for a long day. Ours is paired with an SBX540 baler. My 806 also pairs nicely with our NH 644 round baler.
That brings back a lot of memories. Started out riding the wagon stacking bales behind a IH 45 baler pulled by a 4020 JD. Eventually moved to an accumulator system which was much nicer.
I have never seen a square baler eject bales into a trailer. Amazing 😁. Our local farmer back in the eighties, used to have a John Deere 346 square baler. Now in Ireland most bales are from round balers or the big square ones.

Back a few years ago the farm I worked on had 4 348 John Deere small square bailers... I ran the one on the 4255. Some of the fields were so big we would hook 2 wagons and fill them both together and barley make it around one time..
We used a 1950 M Farmall and a 1953 Super H Farmall with a John Deer 14 T baler and loaded all on wagons to haul to barn. This was in the late 1950's and to the mid 1960's. THe farm was north of Jackson, Michigan.

I love the engineering (valves n triggers) that goes into bale accumulators whether it be small square, big square or round, and whether it's baler mounted or a gatherer.
Those stack cruisers seem pretty efficient. I’m used to baling behind an IH 1066 with a New Holland baler. We do it the old fashioned way and manually stack the bales on the hay wagon
I spent many hours stacking bales on a hay wagon from JD 14T baler pulled by a 1951 (or 53) JD B tractor. I was usually by myself on the hay wagon.
I really enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
The mow was not the place to be on a hot afternoon. We usually unloaded the previous days bales in the morning after milking and breakfast though you could still work up a sweat without much trouble. You didn’t show anyone still using a hay hook! Our chute didn’t make it the whole way back to the wagon so a steel “hook” was used. One piece of iron rod about 20” long with a 2-3” angled hook on one end and a oval shaped handle on the other. You could hold it by the oval or thread the shaft between your fingers and hold the whole oval in the palm of your hand. Better control that way. Trick was to snag a bale that was going to fall off the chute in the turn at the end of the row. Not many of our fields were that flat. There’s an art to stacking a wagon.
Amen. I was the master in my family. We had New Holland baler pulled by 686, perfect tractor for the job and used hooks and had lots of hills to make you nervous sometimes. I took pride in stacking a wagon 7 layers hi with no side supports. My best day in my late twenties was 8 full wagons. I wanted to go for 9 as the sun was going down but dad wouldn't let me. 13:52 We had a team back at the barn unloading the wagons with hooks. Everyone had their favorite hook. Indescribable happiness I had back then.
@@armormathews9140 Oat straw was the worst. Lost a whole back corner once on the turn of a row. The end was downhill, just a back support on the wagon, no sides at all, so when my uncle made the turn to head uphill, the left corner went. Fortunately only about 4 high at the time so wasn’t too bad of a mess.
@@oldtireman4665 yeah the beginning was hard especially making a turn on a hill and hit a deep gutter with the back left or right tire. I didn't like hay because it was heavier and tore up tour hands more.
Thanks love seeing the red tractors fir a change. I mow with a Farmall M with a Kosch mower, Ted with a 300, rake with a 504 bale with a 544 and pick it up with a 400 or 450 and model 70 hay wagon. The slow way but I enjoy it

I spent half my adult life on Farmalls, sure do miss it now ,but at the time it wasn't all that great.
I forgot all about Kosch. They made that really neat mounted mower with the two sickle bars called the Hayvester. Always wanted one, but they didn't sell any in my area of Wisconsin that I know of.
Ikon Sees Mr No They are still in business as far as I know. They sell parts to me direct because there are no dealers East of the Mississippi. You can still the two sickle mowers the last time I talked to them. Really nice folks

That brings back memories. We had a McCormick baler with a chute on it my uncle's decide to put a kicker on it. The kicker they put on had a small gas motor to run it they were using false front wagons to bale into not knowing how it worked they gave the motor full throttle. They bale came out and went through the back boards in the wagon.
Ouch that is a learning curve on a new machine. Great history to hear. Thank you for sharing.
. Side note on the baler it was painted white but by the time they were done with it so many parts were replaced it was almost red. Have you ever seen an electric ihc baler? They ran of a generator on the belt pulley. Baraboo steam show has one working
@@lawrencekieffer6770 Glad I ran across this post. Had no idea there was an Electrall baler operating anywhere, much less up in Baraboo. Hopefully, they have a show next year. That's only a two hour drive for me. Thanks for the tip.
@@ikonseesmrno7300 they have i think a 450 on the baler with the original generator. There's a video on here somewhere that there was a combine that had a baler hooked to that and it was run by the electric generator. Idea ahead of it's time

In North Alabama, 3k-4k coastal bermuda small squares per year. John Deere 4240 tractor with a John Deere 328 baler. Ground driven hay lift to get from ground to trailer height. All man power after that to get them in the barn.
Everything in the video was a replay of my earlier years in the 60's & 70's. I stacked bales on the wagon behind the baler, stacked 10 bales sitting on an angle on a slipe behind the baler, stacked bales in the barn hayloft and ran a New Holland 1049 self propelled bale wagon. Other than the 1049 bale wagon, all this was extreme manual labour and always on warm summer days. I don't think many people nowadays have any idea what farm work was about 40 or 50 years ago.

On the old family farm back in the day, small squares where done with a 1939 John Deere H & John Deere 14T baler. For two years 70s a IH 674 took over running the baler but it left as grandma was the one who drove the tractor when baling and she hated the side shifting on that 674. So the H went back to baling for a while. Then they started to use one of the Farmall 856s instead and the H stayed in the shed more. Then in the mid 80s when the dairy cows left and the beef came in, the small squares were done expect for once in a while for straw. So the H & 14T were stored up in the isle in the middle of the hay mow. Then the one 856 & a JD Round baler took over tell the beef left in 2011. But I’m proud to say the H & 14T are still in the family. And the H will stay that way, but it seems my uncle may brake the trend with the baler.....

We had a 435 baler with a thrower and you could bale so fast that by the time one bale landed in the wagon the next one was in the air. Made a bale every 2 too 3 strokes of the plunger. My brother used to pull in 12th gear at full rpm with a 7220 John Deere
I baled thousands of bales of hay and straw with my dad growing up on our farm. We used a 1946 Farmall H with a John Deere baler. In high school I worked on a dairy farm and we baled with a CaseIH 2096 with a New Holland kick baler.

I love baling with these balers. It was the first thing i did when i was 16. It was a Fiat tractor and John Deere baler with thrower, but it was still fun. I love the smell of hay

Small squares, thanks to a New Holland super 66 baler, powered by an international 484. Cut by the same tractor with a McCormick International 990 haybine. Raked with a 258 New Holland rolla bar, pulled depending on my mood with anything from my 1938 Farmall F20 to the 484 mentioned above. The bales are dropped on the ground and the customers come pick them up generally. One guy wants me to pull his hay wagon behind the baler while he loads it this time around.
Back on the farm we baled with a Super C, Yes, I know it was a little under powered, but it worked. it was all I had. D😁ropped the bales in the field for later pick-up.
These were 90lb bales not the short bales. Stacking the bales tore up you're forearms.

We have a similar setup as in your video. A Case IH Farmall 100C with a New Holland BC5070 and we use a New Holland pull type bale wagon 1037 that we pull with the 100C as well.

I have spent many a hour stacking hay in a mow. I love my round baler
The round bailer replaced us kids when we grew up and moved on in life. Our kids would complain how hard it is even w/ a skid steer and a spike to move the bails...
Makes a man out of you. I would do tractor work during the day then a couple hours off for supper. We would haul in the evening or later if it was going to rain
Always had fun loading the elevator tight, as a joke, to make the guys in the hay mow hustle.😀
Hello in 1960 1975 in those years my dad had Farmel 100 and an Farmel A tractor one had a 5 ft silkel mower..and a 45t mcdeering baler with the motor mounted style with a single wheel on front real work horses on 40 acres Tim and clover hay and oat hay. P.s.and a new idea steel wheel rake all Great machines . My dad and I both had real bad allergy problems and we goter done and put in the barn .one more add on we used the graple fork to put bales in the hay mouw that's it .all put away for dairy cows cjd🤔🇺🇸 spelling ?? Wash state west side 😁 all bales went on to wagons right from baler

I live in the country surrounded by farms. The field across the road from me made the big squares bales, they stacked them up in big piles and came back the next day to load.
Hi there, I do about 1500 bales a year. I’m using an IH #35 hay rake pulled by a 1967 Ford 4000 along with a New Holland #310 baler equiped with 1/4 turn bale chute operated by a 1976 Ford 7600. Bales are picked up with a New Holland #1033 stackliner pulled with a 196? John Deere 3020. My operation is just a hobby to re-live my childhood. I rather do that instead wasting my time driving a motorcycle. I really like watching your videos. By the way I own all the equipment except the 3020 and 1033.
Very cool line up. I like Ford tractors. The 1033 is a neat machine. I have filmed a few self propelled units. I would like to feature some of the pull types too.
Been there done that . I used a Ford baler and a 5,000 supermajority Fordtractor . Wore them both out . Went to a 348 Johndeere tractor size 4230 . Never had any trouble out it . When finishing out a window if it toyed a bale , kick the p.t.o. out of fear when turning around . If you didn't do that it would break the bale it just tied .

When I was a kid we made a lot of bales around the neighborhood with an IH model 46 baler pulled by our 656 Farmall. Usually dropped them on the ground, sometimes put on the extension chute and trailed a wagon.
In more recent years I've worked with New Holland 575 and BC5070 balers with accumulators. First a 10 bale Hoelscher like in this video, then a custom built 32 bale accumulator which was modified from a Steffen I think.

My first job was stacking hay bales. It is always neat finding classic hay balers.
Back in the day I spent alot of time baling with a Farmall 460 and model 46 baler. No wagon was used. The bales went on the ground, then were hand loaded onto a pickup truck and thrown up into the hay mow. My dad always said it was character building not to use extra equipment to do a job.
My first job was stacking bales in the barn. It’s good hard work. I have not understood though why bales are dropped on the ground and then hand picked up. It would seem faster to stack them on a wagon towed by the baler rather than lifting them off the ground.
I agree. However, we were a very small outfit, and my father was depression era raised. He didnt believe in having extra equipment to do a job that his kids could do for no charge. These days bales are 3x3x7 and picked up with a loader. Keep up the great work, and if you are ever in southeast Pennsylvania let me know. You could film for days on our place and our neighbors places during harvest and planting times.
The most beautiful sound on a farm is a Mayrath hay elevator that has just been turned off.......

We bale small squares with a New Holland Super 68. Usually pull it with my uncles JD 4320. I'm usually the driver and my Dad and uncle load. It's hot work but nothing beats the smell of freshly baled hay.

We bailed with a JI Case 530 Diesel and three or four wagons. Fun times when your a kid.

Back in the late 1960's I had a slight mishap; I FELL from a haymow with a bale of hay in my hands. I was helping with tne haying, as I fell, I blacked out before hitting the floor in front of the wagon. Yes,I did go to the Hospital and had Two fractured wrists. I had to go to School like that for 2 weeks. This happened in Ontario, Canada.

We used to make our wire tie bales with a 4010 towing a 214W JD baler and picking the bales out of the rear of the bale "chute". Most kids didn't like to work on our crew because the bales were too heavy.
Can you blame them..actaully by the rnd of the harvest you were stronge enoigh to handle the bales.the next year you were smart enough to get a real job..he..he..

In the 50s I'd board out on a dairy farm in CNY Finger Lakes. The farmer did a lot of shares. Sold hay off in winter. Farmall M pulled a 50T was it(?) 4cyl McCormick belt drive powered press, hired man n I rode the wagons. No hooks allowed. We'd bring 6 wagons n a pickup loaded home after putting shares put in the farms barn, tarp'em for the night. Unload'em after milking, breakfast n cleaned the barn... By then it'd be hot enough to go back for more.
There never was a mow I wanted to be in. You'd almost dehydrate under those tin roofs. Lot of growing lessons learned on those summers...

Haha!! Wow! This indeed was interesting! Crazy because the second and third one featured i saw under an old tobacco barn and had no idea what it was! I thought it was an old timing peanut picker because of the teeth it had on it! Lol it wasn't until I did some recording of some old equipment at a New Holland dealership where I saw another one and asked my subscribers what it was and they enlightened me! Lol and now I can see some in action! Cool! Now question! The first featured machine that made bales and was picked up by the skid steer, how did the old timers used to load them!?
We dont always make the same size bales, but we still stack them by hand on a wagon with a very old New Holland baler
We had a IH 435 with a number 10 kicker on the back , my dad bought it brand new in the late 70’s ...

We do the accumulator but we use a 6105e John Deere on the grab and then a 6605 on the baker I believe that is a 2004 John Deere 348
Shoot! Wish I would have known you were going to do this video. I have footage of my 806 & 47 baler with the 1/4 turn chute & the same 806 on an older NH 1010 Stackliner on my channel. It's only the footage from a stationary vantage point, but I have some from second cutting from the tractor seat. Is there any way of getting notified if you are looking for footage of something? I pretty much have all classic IH & NH equipment, with the oddball being the big Gehl SP forage harvester. Just thought I would offer. Regards & thanks for another great vid!

I bale with an Farmall 706 and NH 273 baler with quarter turn. Pick up with IH 886 and a NH 1005 83 bale stack wagon

Never again! My dad subbed out the baling to a neighbor that had New Holland baler that could make orchard grass bales like concrete. AND WE LOADED THOSE BALES ON WAGONS OUT OF THE FIELD BY HAND. Explains why all of us have shoulder and back problems now!
We bought a second hand round baler - the first in the area - and could actually enjoy living on a farm.

My friend farmer had a Ih 435 baler wich was working really fine until a ''T''bar got picked up into the baler and did a lot of damage to the internal parts so it was scraped!
