The X-Wing game is amazing, but I mainly wanted to comment on the super high quality of this tutorial video. Seriously, in addition to being clear and easy to understand, the production value is great. I wish more games had tutorials like this.
@Brad true. It's perfect for someone like me who has to teach people how to play though. It gets us into the game a lot more quickly.
Ditto, in this day and age, it should be an industry standard companion to the rule book
Agreed. After struggling with learning 2nd edition rules, I now understand the game far better after watching this decade-old 1st edition tutorial. Also, shout out to Gustav Holst for the background music.
Hands down the best tutorial ever made for a boardgame. Easy to understand, calm, clear explanations and examples and perfect graphics. Keep this up, it will undoubtedly attract more players to give your games a go!
This is probably the clearest, best game tutorial ever published anywhere.
I miss these good old days when FFG was the big brother you could always count on!
my teacher is making an x wing miniatures club at school I'm definately joining. this game looks so fun
Oh you lucky! I so hope my school will make a club of that kind too
It's lit
Wow! My teacher did the same thing. That's how I got into X wing miniatures in the first place!
Not quite the same thing, but we had a teacher and group of students who supported a League of Legends club, but the new principal everyone hated shot it down because the ESRB rating mentioned alcohol.
Well? How was it?
My 12 year old grandson loves this game. I've been playing a bit with him and it is fun. Came here to youtube so I can learn some of the nuances more quickly. ... For those who think this game is complicated, compare it with Warhammer 40K. This one is a piece of cake.
I love how you have a 12 year old grandson and can talk about X-wing and 40K!
Agust Blondal older peps can be hip
for sure
He should have ended the tutorial saying, "Man your ships, and may the Force be with you."
this is the best x-wing tutorial video ever made!
Whoever chose The Planets as the background music is an amazing genius. Made this video even more awesome.
I am just beginning. Thank you for such an easy to view and learn tutorial. Especially for us seniors!
You're welcome, Mark. I am glad you found the video helpful.
Do you have a PDF Large print you could send me? My eyesight isnt the best and I am sure that would help me.
Hey Mark. Send our Customer Service an email (link below) and they should be able to answer that question. I know if you take the pdf of the rules from the web page to a print store (office equipment store... i can't specify a company name), they should be able to print the rules on 11x17 paper.

agreed, im late 30s and play warhammer, this looks simple and fun.
This game is so Great, bought it a couple days ago and was playing it for the first time yesterday, over a friend's house. Most fun i had in months, me and my friends were just euphoric playing it haha. Really fast paced too, immersive and the dogfighting aspect (not being able to just stop and continue shooting at each other, forcing you to keep moving) makes the combat a true rush, even with just the initial 3 ships. Add the friking asteroids and/or other obstacles, and the advanced aspects such as upgrade cards and how everything (tokens, stress etc..) factors in, its just an amazing and immersive game and really thrilling if you get invested into whats going on with your friends haha
+FaustSketcher The latest TFA trailer just has me hyped. I've been interested in this game but never pulled the trigger with my wallet. Happened to find the new TFA starter set at Target and nabbed it. Can't wait to try it out with friends...and expand my ship collection ._.
+Cplblue ah, i havent checked it, im usually fine with teasers but never liked how trailers explain too much on the movies, specially in recent years haha but glad to hear. I already went to buy a couple expansions 2 days ago, and opened them this morning (rebel aces and an a-wing). Its such a great game haha My friend is also jumping into it on his bday on teh 31st, and the rest of friends that played it along the weekend loved it so much they keep saying we should play it again haha Good luck on your side, hope you enjoy it as much as we did
FaustSketcher
Aye, good luck as well
+Cplblue haha thanks for the suggestion. Still I think i will hold on to watching it if i can, the more the surprise for the day it airs haha
+Cplblue well it kind of reveals how long characters are going to live. With such a large cast some characters I expect will be killed. I know that Han is going to survive scene X because I know he's in Y.
This game is beautiful.
This video was massively helpful, and it's especially good for individuals who want to bring new players into the fold.
Serious thanks for this vid, got me and the lad playing straight out of the box. Awesome game, got me thinking about a board for it now but what board!
make sure it has plenty of palm trees :)

TheTerrainTutor yo your vids are the best. I can’t tell u how many have helped me
when I get this I'm going to play the Empire strikes back soundtrack while I play
And I will dress in costume when I play, either as Han Solo (for the Rebels) or an Imperial Officer (for the Empire).
i stopped playing this games 3 month ago, but now i want to begin again thank you
Nice tutorial
Way to go fantasy flight! I like your video tutorial which makes people easy to understand what will the game looks like. All of my customer always waiting for the video tutorial before they buy your products. keep it up!
They just released the Death Star miniature
It’s super massive about the size of a dining room table.
What’s more it opens up and can store your entire collection inside of it. Weird that they only gave it 6 shield tokens and 6 attack dice.
I have been looking all over for a quick and easy explanation and this video is by far the best! Awesome quality and great voice over. I have been playing regularly now and already looking up new ships and even down the road a bit, participating in our local tournament.
Thank you for this video! My best friend sent me a core set and I was feeling a little overwhelmed reading through all the instructions. This video has eased my anxiety and I am ready to start playing with my 8 year old son. Looking forward to many years of epic Star Wars battles.
This video is a work of art. Very well put together and well explained.
This actually looks awesome. Think I should try it out with my boys. Excellent tutorial, thanks!
Man I hope this game sticks around its great
This game really is awesome! Thanks FFG for making this awesome tutorial video for it. :)
Amazing instructional video FF!
I like this video the best because it explains it whilst showing an excellent example battle. Thanks for the tutorial!
a beautiful presentation, thank you so much, just started playing!!
Excellent tutorial. Very clear.
I just bought this game and so far I've played it once a night for the past week with a friend. We both love it and can't wait to add more ships and expansions to it! Thanks FFG! :D
I agree Nic, if any1 has every played 40k they would realize wat kind of a value this game really is. Try buying 30 dollars worth of miniatures in that game and see how far you can go in playing a match. Not even to mention they come unassembled and unpainted. You cant even buy rulebooks for 40k for less than 100$. Anyone complaining about fantasy flights cost needs to remove their head from thine posterior. Cheers fantasy flight, thank you for bringing affordable joy back to my table top!
Looking good FF! I like it a lot.
Now I know! And knowing is half the battle!!
Nice tutorial. Very clear. Well done.
I'd like more tutorials of X-Wing, also on others aspects of this game.
Thank you.
When i first saw this in stores i have to say i was very hesitant at whether this game would be good but after seeing people play and this video and knowing more about it i'm most likely gonna buy it lol XD great video i really enjoyed it!!! :D
I'm an avid gamer of sorts (i.e MTG, D&D, etc)......I goto to Friday Night Magic and always see a group of guys playing this in the background....curiosity just kept growing and once I finished viewing this video I just knew the core set had to be purchased....#hookedandbrokeeverytwoweeksbutlovingit
I got the core set yesterday with a few expansions and barely figured out how things work. This video is so helpful and makes it much easier to understand! You guys should REALLY put this videos link in the game's rules
I have been interested in playing this game for years. Finally bought it, and even my younger kids love it too. We start out with a simple game, but they're ready even now for the more complex rules.
Thank you, this game makes so much more sense now
This looks pretty awesome.
I love how The Planets is playing in the background. So fitting.
great how to guide, really helped. just wish there was a video like this for Star Wars Armada!
Thank you for the game and this excellent tutorial
Just got this game for Christmas, I love it
I found this very informative.
The most awesome tutorial, for a table top game, I have ever ssen!
Big fan of "The Planets" playing in the background
Should do more of these with specific rules/ships
Great video, I am going to have to pick this up.
Top notch tutorial.
I bought the core set and the X-Wing expansion for my friend's birthday. I might have to get a copy for myself too. xD
You should do the same kind of video for Armada!!
Holy cow I just got mine in the mail today...awesome...
Nice Gustav Holst music in the background. Always thought Mars - The Bringer of War fit SW.
The Gustav Holst Planets music are pretty much considered Star Wars music before Star Wars existed.
I really want to try this!
Very good tutorial.....great explanation.
Picked mine up today with Advanced Tie, 2 more xwings and 2 more tie fighters!!!!
I bought the TIE bomber just for the model, but then I found out more about the game, got interested, and now I'm about to have my first game with my Dad after I bought the TFA set yesterday :D
Well, I'm already hooked enough to have bought the TIE/ln, A-Wing, and Y-Wing XD
+Cybermat47 I have The Force Awakens Core set, A-wing, TIE Advanced, Millennium Falcon and Lambda-class shuttle packs. We have played several awesome games with my friends and my brother :)
I just bought the core set with the Millennium Falcon expansion
Is the TIE bomber good?
Damnit..... I just got into Imperial Assault, and now I am thinking of buying in on this one too!!! :-)
Chad Lawless I have the same problem but with Armada. Damn these awesome games!! lol
Nice video. And interesting how the background music is “Saturn” from Holst’s The Planets.
I'm so getting this
I highly approve of FFG's use of Gustav Holst's Planets Suite, which I know was also inspiration for John Williams (or used directly) in the original trilogy.
This game is a blast.
Excellent video 👍👍
Damn I love FFG
great instructional video
Great video very helpful! Also like your narrator's voice.
next paycheck, this game will be mine
+Sir Orrin Productions Hehe, so true.
Last Saturday I got a copy of the base game from my local game shop, on the way out a bloke, who was holding a small dog, looked at the box. "X wing!" He said, "let the obsession begin" I smiled at him.
After my second game I know exactly what he meant!
Super helpful
Can you please made another video explaining things like target lock, asteroid fields, the random other pieces and bits that come with the set (the blue thing with the spikey ring on it, the little green computers, etc?)
What happens if you have an auxiliary firing arc, can you shoot both on the same turn.
I found the directions in the box a bit hard to follow but now that I've seen this I understand 👍🏻
Great video
I just picked this up today after a conversation with the shop owner over how BS the warhammer prices are. We were talking about how nobody ever wants to buy and play the X-Wing table tops he has in stock, so I took a look and next thing you know we're fighting over who gets to be the Empire. We screwed up the rules so much, so when I go back tomorrow I'll have to show him this video, which does a much better job than the booklet does.
this is too sweet! with that said im going galactic empire all the way!
Looks like a fun game.
Someday this will be in an "Only 10's kids will remember" meme.
Whew... scary to think about
+Matt Z Considering that they just came out with a Force Awakens starter kit. I think this will last for a long time.
True
Kids these days are glued to their iPads, I bet it's mostly adults that play table top games now 😂
LMAOOOO
How do you play the large cruisers?
Could you please do a tutorial video on how large ships work, like the imperial raider.
Imperial Raider is HUGE ship, but ships like Slave 1 and Millennium Falcon are large ones.
If you compare this to other miniature board games, such as warhammer 40k and such. Dived the time and money by zero that you spend on that game with X-Wing and its SOOOOOO worth every penny...
My brother and I are thinking of getting this game for a monthly game night at his house. We both grew up on star wars..so thought this might be fun...to verify for both of us to play we only need to purchase one core game set right? Also if we like it a lot can the game expand to accommodate more than two players?
is there any possibility that a video can be made explaining the rules ofr each ship and weapon systems, as i have found some rules confusing and contradicting.
Wonder if there's plans to add "ROGUE SHADOW" Starkiller's ship??
I guess that would be something like a 20 part video! :P
Is the voice-over actor the same that did the rules video for Atmosfear?
I know this game has been out a while, but I really never looked into it until now. I really like this. First, it brings us back to when Star Wars was about Star Wars and not Jedi's and glowbats.
Please make more videos like this.
Ah man, I need friends for this :(
It's available in Tabletop Simulator, could play it with people all around the world.
that's sad i'll play this with you:)
I can't wait to play my first game.
Well, I ended up losing the first 3, but I finally claimed a victory in a Rebel vs Rebel game with my Outrider and the Falcon vs an Ewing, Kwing and new Xwing.
I just picked up some tie fighters miniatures. I hope I do well
Why in the first round part 3 did Luke not use his special ability upgrade to turn a focus into an evade??
A question. When doing a barrel roll do you put the movement 1 at the front of the base or back of the base. The front of the base to the back of the base, causing the ship to move forward. The back of the base to the front of the base causing the ship to move backwards. Which is it?
Hello. In the 1st edition of the game (which is what this tutorial is for) you can choose to move your ship slightly forward or slightly backward. The 2nd edition of the game had a different rule where you place based on the line on the movement template.
really cool wish to get
I'm just starting out and got the core set I was just wondering we can't mix up first order ships with imperial ships can we? if not are there more ships coming out for the first order?
Hello Dylan. You can mix Imperials with First Order. You just can't mix Rebels with Imperials.
Simple enough :) And great to look people playing.
Sorry, completely new to this game and can't wait to play. Luke has the R-2 card which gives him an extra agility, does that mean Luke gets one more evade dice? Not sure I understand how that works. Thanks!
I know you posted this a year ago, but I'm just here to say. It does mean he gets an extra evae die!
Question to FFG about bumping. Why doesn't bump give a damage to the one who bumps? In the gamecubegame Rouge Squadron, if you bump a ship you will loose a lot of shield or die instantly.
I never thought of it as 'bumping'. I thought it was a case of them getting too close and having to either go over or under each other (in 3D space) - hence why they can't target each other.
Thanks fantasy flight, vary helpful!!!
With expansions, can more than 2 people play?
I'm getting this
Question: Does it have to be played Empire vs. Rebels? So you have to essentially build two forces or something? Otherwise this seems OK.
Hello. No! You can play Empire v Empire or Rebels v Rebels or Scum v Scum if you like. You can even mix and match the eras pitting Episode 4 ships up against Episode 1 ships.
