In the Japanese version Hero is named Shen. Sort of reminds me of Shenlong, and Shin from the Buu arc
They probably would’ve in the dub too, but for some reason they gave Crane Hermit a name that unfortunately also was coincidentally the name ‘Shen’. So, they changed his name to Hero here.

Why is he called "hero" his name is actually Shēn. The English dub is always changing names.
Because in addition to wanting to avoid confusion with Master Shen, how Goku figured out he was Kami wouldn't translate well.

@@denickart i know that shen means god in Chinese but they shouldn't have called "master shen" master shen in the first place. I guess you're right it wouldn't translate well, for that I need to check other dubs for how they did it.
Edit: in the Spanish dub Goku finds out about shen by correlating his name with shenlong and shen saying that he transferred his soul to another body, much easier to understand I guess.
