    As an American I always find it gratifying when the guards play John Philip Sousa. “The Thunderer March” was purported to be Sousa’s personal favorite.

    • @christophertipton2318
      @christophertipton2318 Před 20 dny

      I like when UK bands play Sousa too. But I think he is best done by the US Marine Bands or the Royal Marines Bands. US Marine vet here, so a bit biased.

      @@christophertipton2318 I am a 72 year old American who played in the high school band. If you played in any American high school band you are familiar with “The Thunderer.” The woodwind triplets in the trio are murder.

      I have a question. Was the bass trombone player performing at the changing of the guard this morning? If so, his stamina is incredible.

      @@ak104ka , yes, one of the bass trombone players (there are 2, one at each end) was also playing in Changing the Guard that morning, playing in the Band of the Welsh Guards. He's the one with a moustache, nearest the camera at 16:10 .

    What a very nice Style DM Dan Fairley has! Thanks Delvin-Pedia, I knew it wasn't ASDM Scott Fitzgerald, but I was lost for a moment to think who else wears the Red Plume of the Coldstream Guards, I wasn't even sure this was a DM & not a DS, No Baldric you see & it's difficult to see the Chevrons on those Uniforms. I only saw him at last years Trooping the Colour so I wouldn't have recognised his face. I like his very Precise Direction & his recover at the end, pleasing to the eye & his Over Under Signalling is reminiscent of ASDM Fitzgerald's old style.
    The Band of the Coldstream Guards Sound Fantastic, with a Number of Marches on their March List I don't think I've heard before. One of them, "The Thunderer" I've definitely not heard before & I'm quite taken with it, it's reminiscent of the Music of The Georgian & Regency Period, very Bright & Gay, another name to add to the ever growing Favourite List.
    It's very easy to Forget that the Coldstream Guards was Originally formed in the Scottish Borders area of Scotland, in the Town of Coldstream in 1650. They have the Distinction of being the Oldest Continuously Serving Regular Regiment in the British Army. Some of the Marches in todays March List have a decidedly Scottish Flavour which is understandable given the Regiment's History.
    It's always nice to see The Veterans Marching in these Black Sunday Parades, their Pride in their Old Regiment is very easy to see, as they March again with their Brothers in Arms of their Battalion. The Coldstream Guards always have a Good Turnout of Veterans & there's no denying that they still have it. Well Done Gentlemen & Ladies! Yes, you still have it.
    One of my Top 5 Favourite Marches is The Radetzky March, composed by a Favourite of Mine, Johann Sebastian Strauss, better known for his Viennese Waltzes, he wrote a number of Military Marches, though this is his most well known one by Far. The Coldstream Band Play it Brilliantly. You can hear it Perfectly even though the Band hasn't reached the Top of Horse Guards Ave yet, Just Superb! That Grey Mounted Police Horse is a Right Character, you can bet your life no matter where he is & there's a Military Band with Men Marching behind, he has to put on a little bit of a Show, he's been round the Bands long enough that he's used to them, but he always puts on a little Act, just to make sure he gets some Attention too. Some Very Good Bass Trombone work there as the Band Wheels onto Birdcage Walk heading back to Wellington Barracks. Very Nice Job Sir!
    The one thing that always make me Giggle is "Milanollo" The Regimental Quick March of the Coldstream Guards & also The Regimental Quick March of the Lifeguard Cavalry Regiment, You do Not want to see the Mental Image that accompanies that March in my Head, Trust me. The Mythical half Man, half Horse "Centaurs", that had No Self Control when it came to Wine, Women & Battles should be a Sufficient Clue.
    Another Great Video Mr B!! 2 Great Parades in one Day We are Spoilt! Thank you for this Video, another Great Baton Production, with Top Notch Audio & Visuals. Much Appreciated.

    Who are the people marching behind the band in civilian clothes?

    • @e.chambers2973
      @e.chambers2973 Před 17 dny

      Members of The Coldstream Guards' Association for former and serving members of the regiment. This annual event is organized by the association to honour the regiment's fallen. The march led by the Band of the Coldstream Guards is to the Guards' Memorial at Horse Guards Parade for a brief remembrance ceremony and to lay a wreath. It would have been preceded by a short service in the Guards' Chapel at Wellington Barracks. Those wearing the bowler hats and carrying umbrellas, by custom, denote former or serving officers. Civilian dress for the participants is set by the association : dark suit, shirt and regimental tie and medals for all ranks.
