I love how people say take the car. Yet, every time rush hour comes, I see the massive gridlock in the downtown core on major streets and drivers honking, cutting in, yelling at other drivers. Some of you are ignoring the police officer who is directing traffic. Yeah sure, take the car.

Extracts from the latest available TTC Financial Statements
    - Revenue from passenger services $ 496 million
    - Operating and capital subsidies $3,023 million
    - Total budgeted expenses $2,895 million
    - Wages, salaries and benefits $1,534 million
Looking at these numbers for every $ 1.00 the average commuter spends on TTC fares, TTC workers get $3.09 and taxpayers subsidize the TTC with $6.09
Now ask yourself if these TTC workers should be allowed to go on strike - for what appears to be a vital infrastructure service that is largely subsidized by municipal, provincial and federal tax dollars.

It’s a social service for those who can’t afford a car. For people to work go to school and shop. It’s why the services are provided. Maybe private businesses should help pay the fare or costs of heir employees taking buses to work

  • @punjabigrandma
    @punjabigrandma Před 23 dny +23

I know many people that work in the TTC garages fixing busses. In the private sector, you have 2 hours to complete an annual safety inspection.
TTC allots 20 hours for the same inspection.
Workers that work the overnight shift easily sleep in busses for 3-4 hours daily.
The shop foreman must be “invited” on to the shop floor or else it is considered a grievance and the union gets involved.
I am shocked that no one has done an audit to compare how many hours it takes TTC employees to do a job opposed to the private sector.
Any business operating like this would have been shut down instantaneously. The taxpayers are on the hook and the lazy workers are still not satisfied!

Go unions go! Politicians and CEOs are destroying Canadians financially, we need strong unions to fight back.

Unions drive up inflation, discourage hiring and new investment, disrupt services and lives, threaten social programs we spent a lifetime paying for and foster a culture of greed and entitlement! Unions do not fight for fairness and justice anymore, that hasn't been the case in over a century, they're simply abused to indulge greed! We need to get rid of unions and replace them with stronger labour laws!

I thought they where supposed to this like 2-3 weeks ago lol . They get pension good benefits they don’t need to strike they are ungrateful plus all those ttc bus driver could make up to 120k with over time . Sometimes I feel people are ungrateful with what they have . Ttc is supposed to serve the public as much as I like unions , I don’t think they should be encouraging people to walk of the job as many people rely on the ttc . People first serve the public and resolve all your outstanding issues in closed doors .
All ceos get raises bonuses etc it’s how it works . Plus all the employees get raises as per their CBA at ttc .
Serving the public is more important then your employment contract .

You don't realize how critically incorrect you are. "CEOs make more because they do etc etc and workers make according to CBA" - that's what ppl who accept the wage inequality say. There is a LARGER gap between what the TOP TTC worker made vs what their CEO made, than your average workers vs the TOP TTC worker. It's night and day. Yet ppl focus on knocking down worker pay to match their own low wage? Don't ppl realize that if all we do is knock each other down, then we ALL stay down? We gotta start aiming our sights on those at the top and why they're sitting pretty not concerned about us at the bottom crawling and begging for their scraps

Those who blaming transit operators don’t know what their job is
Transit keeps 12 hour spread and the work can be only 5 to 6 hours but transit hold operators for 12 hours (break is unpaid here take note)
So wind short transit operators make around 3000-4000 a month only
Lot of pay goes to taxes
