They will sit right by a speed limit sign that's lower and use the radar gun to clock you outside of it while you still could go the faster speed, then follow you into the slower zone a few blocks, and THEN light you up. It'll be your word against the officers that their radar gun wasn't pointing into a zone that was actually faster when they clocked you.

"Non-US citizens with a valid foreign driver’s license are allowed to drive in the state of Georgia for tourism or business purposes. If you choose to drive with a license issued by a foreign country, a law officer may ask for your passport or visa to verify the license is valid."
She had a valid passport, but she committed the mistake to not bringing with her the original (only a copy). The cop didn't want to see the copy either. Worst case, how can they send someone a couple of months to jail only for driving with an "invalid" licence and an a speed ticket?
@@fonkamex I suspect that there is more context to the story. In any case state law says the officer has the right to ask to see her passport. Something the officer knew and she didn't. I suspect there was a bit of disagreement involved - maybe that works in Canada, but it is a bad idea in Georgia.
I think what shocked me most was this young woman was traveling all alone in a country (USA) known to be dangerous these days and she actually said at the time of her arrest "no one knew where I was." I'm sorry this happened to her and glad she's OK, but safety first isn't a bad travel plan.
The ego of a cop is the most dangerous thing you have to face
Not quite.
"It's dangerous to be right when the police are wrong."
Nope. Its big government.
She was speeding.
@@robbieogle8622 So what. Cop was thick and power-mad. Shouldn't be in the job.
She should have pursued a lawsuit for false imprisonment against the state of Georgia and that police officer for substantial money.
In Georgia you cannot sue the government.
Put to Jail - with Canadian Drivers Licence ! Great Story - with a Refund !
@@gsp49 yes as in all states but departments, officer can be sued
@@royalty9210 good luck with that.
@@gsp49 Where do you get that information from? That is a crock of sh--. They may claim immunity, but that is something that would have to be argued in court. State rules make it difficult, but it can be done. Before you can sue the state of Georgia, you must provide ante litem notice, just as you would when suing any government entity in Georgia. This is basically an overview of how you sustained your injuries and evidence to show how a Georgia state agency was liable.
Sue the crap out of the Sheriff's Department and the Officer. Sometimes being as aggressive as they are is the only way to get their attention.
Sounds like grounds for a civil suit.
There is no correlation between public service and intelligence, this officer should be stripped of her badge and gun and never allowed to work in the field of law enforcement again!
I agree 👍
On top of that, once at the station, no one else figured out she shouldn't be in custody.
Here in Canada, in order to become a police officer you need a University Degree. Down in the USA, I think the only prerequisite for joining up is highly questionable.
She should’ve got a full refund, including the impound charges and apology at the minimum. That cop violated her rights by not following the law and could be sued as well as the police department in that state. If cops are unfamiliar with the law, they should call a supervisor before arresting somebody unnecessarily.
If they are unfamiliar with the law, THEY SHOULDN'T BE COPS!!!
I sure hope she got a lawyer and sued them.
I'm so sorry this happened to you. As a US citizen I am very embarrassed by this obviously corrupt officer's actions. I know this story is 6 years old but I pray that officer was fired and you sued.
I think we should stop accepting Georgia drivers licenses in Canada.
Or in other 49 states.
to be fair nobody from georgia can navigate to canada
And in New York State too!
lol, Do It!
And make the standard of driving more difficult while you're at it.
Dont torture all of Georgia for the wrongful doing of a cop. That cop needs to be accused with worse charges for not knowing the law and acting on it unlawfully
*AS AN AMERICAN, PLEASE SUE THEM!!!!! DO A GOFUND ME ACCOUNT AND SUE THEM. THESE BAD COPS ARE MAKING GOOD COPS JOB HARDER EVERUDAY AND THRY NEED TO LEARN.*
Mustafa Ahmad in Canada it costs nothing to sue someone. The lawyer gets 3% of the settlement only if you win.
sl0ptart then she should do it!!!! Cops in america are getting out of controll. Its unbelivable!!!
Mustafa Ahmad abs right
Hey if a good cop knows the bad cop is doing bad and looks the other way that makes them both bad are all bad they know what's going on got any time I'm sure there was many cops on duty that could have stopped that guaranteed many more knew what was going on at the time and none of them stopped it that makes them all guilty of the same thing I've heard many judges say ignorance is no excuse unless the shoe's on the other foot
Mustafa Ahmad ,there are no good pigs,. Pigs run in packs. An incident happens and pigs always say they will have a internal investigation. My oh my,the pigs are gonna investigate the pigs. Do you smell the pigshit going on here.Pigs run in packs, there are no good pigs.
Competence and honesty of police appears to be declining.
Georgia has been notorious for their targeting of drivers from out of State. When driving to Florida I was always wary of seeing State Troopers in Georgia.
This is what happens when a law officer thinks they are the law.
Actually, she wouldn't be framing innocent people without the go-ahead from her superiors AND the good old boys at the county seat!
Nope, it is pure greed of the county and sheriff.
Foreigners are required to carry his/her passport with her. She was arrested because she did not enough creditable official documents to prove her authenticity (driving license in not enough).
Hey MAGA 2020 : DID YOU VOTE FOR THE ORANGE 😼😹😹😽🐯😸🐱GRABBER ? WOW !
"..when a law officer thinks..."
Now THERE'S the "Oxymoron of the Year"!
Sue, sue and SUE. It's the only language they know and perhaps they'll train their officers in future :(
They´re perfectly trained to spot weak victims!
Sue.? The taxpayers foot the Bill. She will being suiting the poor citizens of Georgia. The cops have immunity from any prosecution or lawsuits stemming from actions. Something is needing to be done about this Caustic Culture that is actually nurtured by Police Chiefs and their subordinates.
@@creekdweller9662 - Umm... no. Qualified immunity grants government officials SOME immunity from civil suits. In other words, you can't sue them for doing their job. However, you CAN sue if you can show that the official violated "clearly established statutory or constitutional rights of which a reasonable person would have known".
A reasonable person (especially a cop) should know that a Canadian driver's license is just as valid in the US as a US license is in Canada. So in this case, a lawsuit would be easy to pursue.
@@Mr.Ekshin It's way worse than that simple interpretation. The "clearly established" standard doesn't refer to laws, reasonable people, or behavior expected of cops. "Clearly established" means established by the supreme court. In this case, there is almost certainly no existing judicial precedent for a Canadian driver's license with scanned passport on a cell phone in GA so the officer would get qualified immunity, and there will never be a precedent for similar cases so cops can literally do this everyday forever in complete immunity. A great/terrible example from 2019 came when an officer in TN ordered his dog to attack a suspect who had already surrendered. The closest "clearly established" standard involved a SCOTUS case where the suspect had surrendered by laying down. But the TN suspect surrendered by sitting down and holding their hands in the air. That little difference granted the TN officer qualified immunity which was affirmed on appeal. In another recent case some federal agents beat up a patient at a VA hospital, but they beat him up WORSE than the closest "clearly established" case, so the court granted the agents immunity. It really is that bad. Cops have complete immunity for ANYTHING that SCOTUS hadn't PRECISELY address before 1982. Think about it, cell phones and digitally scanned passports didn't even exist before 1982 so nothing related to them can ever become "clearly established".
They don't even care about that. They don't have to pay the lawsuit judgements, the city/county does. so there are literally no consequences for the individual officers and/or the the police departments that order them to do this.
It's not safe for Americans to drive through states in the south either.
Police departments and court systems in the US southern states are notoriously corrupt.
Goes both ways, the same thing happened to two of my friends in Canada
The actions of that officer are criminals that's keep napping.
She should have sued the cop and got her fired so she doesn't do this to anymore people.
Impossible. Nothing will happen.
it is expensive to sue in the U.S. it's even more expensive to sue across borders.
I agree 💯%
@@EndPoliceBrutailty but isn't there law firms that will take on a case and if they win then they will collect but won't charge you anything if they don't? i mean i am from canada and we do have that system in place. They take a certain percentage if they win the case.
@@AkbarSnackbar There is no law universally reimbursing legal fees, especially for civil suits. That's why people usually lose money even if they win a civil asset forfeiture case. The legal fees cost more than the money seized so they lose money even if they win. That's by design so police can abuse civil asset forfeiture and make it not worth it for people to try and get their money back.
What part of Ga. did this happen ? I am from Georgia and believe me we have some of the dumbest cops in ALL 159 counties. Personally I would like for this young lady to sue.
That's exactly why some cops prey on out of state drivers (and in this case, out of country). They KNOW you're not willing to come all the way back there just to file a lawsuit, and then stay there for the duration of the suit.

Just full sentences, delivered one after the other, developing a coherent conversation in a pleasant, alert and engaged demeanor.
I’ve observed before from other of my neighbors to the north that
Canadians obviously must have a much higher quality educational system.
You put Americans to shame!
That girl deserves more then her money back! That officer and her department should be investigating throughly
Yes, she does. Unfortunately, she became a target for a money grab. That is perfectly clear.
Can't wait to see the law suit. If she will. She needs to be receiving a great deal for what she went through. The officer should be suspended without pay. When Georgia refunded the bail money, to me that was a sign of admitting their gift. Honey if you can get this message, please hire an attorney and see about suing them.
The Police officer can be sued under full commercial liability, for false arrest, kidnapping, false imprisonment. deprivation of liberty and theft of motor vehicle.
That claim would easily total a few million dollars, that the officer herself would have to pay.

Did the police officer still think this is the Civil War, and that Georgia isn't actually part of the United States?
@@debbiej.2168 I guess the South still live among some Muricans

I said "well I'm 42 years old and they have their own lives now". He just looked puzzled and didn't know what to make of the whole thing. Not even making that up.
