This Labour Govt and the maorifying of NZ, too blatant to be ignored. Public schools in our country are also having foisted on them 'inclusiveness' by the Dept of Education, this encompasses teaching of LGBTQ and transgender ideologies. The document Te Huihanganui (A Blueprint of Transformative
System Shift) underpins many the changes occurring in the education sector. It is written using a critical race theory lens. It under pins the changes in the refreshed curriculum (Te Mataiaho). From the Mathematics curriculum (a subject which should be considered universal to all people). The statement is made “Being numerate in Aotearoa New Zealand today relies upon understanding diverse cultural perspectives and privileging te ao Māori and Pacific world-views”. This change to the curriculum should be the number one election issue, it will fundamentally change our country.

The solution to the integration of Maori spiritual knowledge into the New Zealand Curriculum is through the introduction of the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma course for high schools called the Theory of Knowledge (TOK). This is a compulsory senior interdisciplinary course that covers such things as how we know things, critical thinking, how different disciplines gather knowledge including the arts. science, religion, etc and most importantly there is now a section on indigenous knowledge. The latter is the place for Maori beliefs. Forcing the integration of Maori spirituality into science subjects is wrong headed and does a disservice to all those involved.

I also agree with Professor Rata; the Education Department is too ideological. For example, it makes no sense to include Māori mythology and beliefs about spirituality into science, the origins of science represented a rejection of metaphysical explanations of natural phenomena, I also do not enjoy Māori rituals held at school which exclude the use of English. I would find them more meaningful and inclusive if there were explanations in English.
