Well lets get the ball rolling with the videos from my trip to Skiathos shall we. Starting with the flight down onboard this immense Boeing 757 operated by TUI. I've actually taken this exact flight before and filmed but couldn't resist the opportunity to go back to the beautiful island of Skiathos and why not do it in style on a 757! TUI will retire the remaining 757's from their fleet by October (just a month after this was filmed) so this will also mark the end of an era by being one of the last of the kind into Skiathos airport as no other operators serve JSI with the B757.
Doing the work on this flight was 21 year old G-OOBP. A nice morning departure out of Birmingham in low Autumn sunlight. Departing very quickly & rather steeply due to the light passenger loads from RWY33, listen to those RB211's roar! Climbing towards the city itself before turning right and spinning around towards the South. The 757 is notoriously powerful, as noted, we climbed straight up to 41,000ft! Reaching FL410 before we'd even left the British coastline. Passing over Central London during the latter part of the climb and towards Dover and the English channel. Into French airspace and over the Alps. Took advantage of the low passenger numbers to switch to the other side over the Alps to see a great view of Mont Blanc standing tall amongst the rest of the mountainous terrain. Continued from there down the Adriatic and Croatian coastline. Over the top of Pula, but views of Rijeka & its airport down to the left of us. Directly over the top of Thessaloniki City & Airport during the initial part of the descent before making our approach into Skiathos.
A standard approach onto RWY01 in Skiathos, but offering some absolutely beautiful views of Skopelos (Where Mamma Mia was filmed) before we turn over the bay and pass Skiathos town itself. Brilliant landing and the 757 shows off what it does best! Power & stopping performance is unmatched! We made the exit on the runway onto the tarmac without requiring any backtrack! Something that is pretty rare for Skiathos airport, let alone for its biggest aircraft that serves it. Out of all the times I've been spotting at JSI I don't recall ever seeing a 757 manage to do that.
I also included a quick shot of the aircraft departing back to Birmingham, including a wave from the pilots and lots of jetblast blowing people down the street!
Look out for the full spotting video taken during this trip to Skiathos includes lots of low landings & jetblast in some good & some quite nasty weather conditions.

Will be such a shame when they are retired soon by TUI. The 757 is an icon for the airline from its start as Britannia Airways onwards. An RB211 powered 757 is the best kind

Always great to see you onboard another 757! They are very iconic at Skiathos.

They are indeed! Sadly I think this will be the last season of them visiting JSI

Ahh so great to see the 757 still with TUI!

I spoke too soon. TUI have announced the retirement of the 75 and the remaining 4 are expected to be removed by October 13th :(

I think the 757 is the best looking aircraft. Its stance reminds me of concord, although TUI's livery takes away from its sleek lines.
Or, is my love for this aircraft because of it being my first ever plane I flew on???
Maybe the thrust that pins you back in the seat?
No other aircraft does that anymore.

I guess it is because it was the first aircraft you flew on.Mine was a BEA Comet between Heathrow and Gothenburg and I still see that first ever flight as something special never forgetting the paper progress map being passed around the cabin!

It was great to have you on board! I remember seeing you recording our takeoff out of JSI, I was sat near door 3R so could seeing you standing holding your camera and remember feeling so sorry because you were waiting patiently for us to start rolling, but we sat at the end for a while. Your poor arm :P

Superb! This video has it all - wonderful aircraft, awesome RB211 sounds, a trip at FL410, incredible morning light, an interesting approach and a super short field landing (those brakes must have been scorching!) - oh, and a bit of wing/engine condensation on takeoff to top it off! A fitting tribute to the TUI 75'; she will be missed.

Most of them now. The runway was extended at the 19 end 2 years ago. Only by a few yards but it’s just enough to tick the box so they can take off, direct to the UK now. 737’s do it mostly now
