BIBURY like you have NEVER seen Before - The Difference is NIGHT & DAY - Cotswolds Night Walk

- So, today we are out and about walking after midnight in the Cotswold village and parish of Bibury, which is located in Gloucestershire, England. The village is located 6 1/2 miles (10.5 km) northeast of Cirencester.
Bibury is arguable one the most iconic tourist destinations in the Cotswolds and receives many-many thousands of visitors every year from all over the globe. The one thing that really makes Bibury stand out is the world famous Arlington Row, which is a row of cottages originally built in 1380 as a monastic wool store and then converted in the 17th century to weavers cottages. Today, Arlington Row is managed and owned by the National Trust.
The Swan (Hotel) is a former coaching inn, it has 22 rooms and is the perfect location for small weddings, business meetings as well as a great place to stop over if you happen to be visiting the Cotswolds. The Swan also serves great food & drink! Dogs are welcome too!
The parish Anglican Church of St Mary is at the heart of Bibury. It was built in the 11th century and is Grade I listed. The church is a highly visited location and see's much footfall on a daily basis.
This walk does not have the usual goal of trying to achieve one long video clip but instead it is broken up into segments by filming individual scenes/areas. This is mainly because there would of been a lot of literally nothingness as it was so pitch black in the village. All I had to light the way was a small head torch which does not have the strongest of beams. Towards the end of the video you may hear a car pulling up and headlights shine out in front of me...it was the POLICE! They came out to me to check that I was okay and also probably just to make sure that I was not up to any sort of villainy!
As this video is quite dark in terms of image brightness, the best time to watch it might be at night or in a low light environment, also headphones are highly recommended. See if you can hear an Owl! Bibury definitely has a complete different feel at night compared to daytime when the village is heaving with tourists. As far as I can tell there is no other video like this of Bibury on CZcams!
Thanks for walking with me.

(A record for me, found this 16secs after you launched it, even before the notification appeared, right place, right time) I was tantalized! So cool opening with lapping waters. Absolutely elegant fading from scene to scene using village's lighting and sounds to your advantage. (I'm intrigued as to how your mind thinks). This was BOLD, if you did such hereabouts you'd be shot, cuffed or straight-jacketed. Again, to your advantage, a power outage, so cool your effects. Thence your squishy shoes, live a living dead, followed by your transparent shadow casually traipsing on holy ground, ghastly ghostly. You outdid yourself, again. So this is what you do after sneaking out your vehicle. Encore! Encore!
Wait what!?! Your name is Kevin?
Good day, L.J. WOW...you were quick...mind you, it seems like eons ago since I last posted! You have raised a valid point - What goes through my head? tbh I'm not sure I even know! Plenty more night walks already in the bag for you to savour 😀. Have a great weekend and thanks for coming out with me after dark!
Ps...apparently it is 😉
@@OutandaboutWalking
🤔ACH! The word "apparently": is used to indicate that something seems to be true based on the available evidence, but may not necessarily be the case. Thus, you shall remain Sir🕶️ in me evidence "book".....for now. "Put that in your smipe and poke it."
@@jaclynmwvasquez it is not often I get called Sir...I can live with that :). I can confirm though, my name is not Kevin.
@@OutandaboutWalking
Why, "Sir" be a title of respect used in addressing a man without using his name and also to he who inspires and is exceptionally well in an area of expertise. To continue: I call even small children "Sir" or "Lady", just before raking them over the coals for a naughty. They really do feel respected and that their slippage from esteem embarrassed themselves not others. Do you yourself not feel oddly delighted when I "rake" you?
Beautiful and tranquil❤
Many thanks 😊
Wow! So atmospheric! Thank you for sharing your walks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Many thanks.
Thank you so much for going out at night ( in the cold weather! ) to shoot this video. The hooting owl added to the atmosphere. Great video!
Hello. Thanks very much for your comment and feedback. It sure was a bitterly cold night. The owl hooting was lovely to hear, in fact kind of soothing too. Hope to see you again on another walk :). All the best to you.
Very atmospheric!!
Thanks very much :)
Now that was a lovely surprise!! The sound of the water, the lights the shine & the sparkle made it even more enchanting. Thank you, a nice lift on a very snowy brutually cold day. I so look forward to all your walks but I must say this one.....very high on my list!!! Thank you so much for going out in the cold evening for us. ❤
Hi, Michele. Thanks very much. Stay warm & keep wrapped up during these times of extreme cold...before you know it, summer will be here again :). A few more nights walks still to be aired. All the best to you. ~ OAAW
@@OutandaboutWalking ty my new friend..💕
A perfect representation of the English countryside during the middle ages and earlier: no other sources of light other than your torch and the light of the moon and stars and the hooting owl truly a spooky feel to it all.
Thanks very much for the lovely comment. All the best to you.
Really like the night perspective!!
Thanks very much
Though early morning will always be my favorite time of day- and my favorite time for your walks- I do enjoy the variety of the nighttime walks added in upon occasion. There is a special aura of quietness and solemnity that they possess. I especially enjoy nighttime strolls in the snow- something that there has been ample opportunity for lately in our area, coming off of (and still in it, really) a week of almost nonstop snow, plus a few days of blizzard conditions. (We shoveled a lot!). Those walks always remind me of the Robert Frost poem “stopping by woods on a snowy evening”- a work that I think you would enjoy if you are not already familiar with it. I knew exactly what you meant when you wrote of walking in pitch black, with only a torch light (aka “flashlight” in the US) to guide you. The place where I do historical reenacting is where we go to practice music, and because it needs to retain its historical authenticity (first building erected in 1726- which is young by U.K. standards, I know!), there are no electric streetlights around. It truly is dark as the inside of the proverbial pocket- and a flashlight is my companion as I walk to and from my car.
Thanks for posting another nice walk- and I did indeed hear the owl! { :>
Hi, Janet. You summed it up perfectly, as the early morning walks will always be the bread & butter of this channel but it is also good now and again to have that little bit of variation. I would absolutely love to go on a snowy night walk, can't see it happening any time soon despite all the cold weather just lately here in the UK. I will have a look for the poem as I don't think I have heard of it before. My, you are busy! That must be incredibly atmospheric playing music at the location where you go to. Stay warm & have a great weekend. ~ OAAW

You will like that poem! It is a familiar one here, probably because the poet is American. It is taught in schools (or was back when I was a student), but I recall memorizing it at 13 years of age, just because I liked it so much.
I will stay warm only part of the time this weekend, as tomorrow I will do my own “out and about”, going on a guided snowshoe nature hike with others, at a (somewhat) nearby nature preserve. We will be learning about squirrels and their activities in winter. It should be fun! : ) Have a great weekend- and yes, it is very cool to play music in such settings! The ambiance is incredible.

Hi, Zen. Good to hear from you today. It sure is a peaceful time to go out walking. More night walks coming soon. Enjoy the weekend. OAAW
Super merci beaucoup 👍
Nice! Have stood on that bridge in the opening and been to the Swan hotel for lunch but it wasn’t at night. 🦢Enjoyed the various filmed sequences. So quiet and not crowded too! 🙂 Thanks!
Hi, James. Good to hear from you. It is a lovely spot. Glad you enjoyed the sequences. Many thanks. Have a great weekend. ~ OAAW
Having visited and stayed in Bibury several times, it was a treat to see it filmed in this way. So peaceful and beautiful without the customary hordes of people. Thank you for sharing this with us. delightful walk with us!
Hi, Susan. Thanks very much for your feedback. Glad you enjoyed this different take on Bibury. Have a great weekend.
Thanks, Ana. You will find it more entertaining that way :)

Hi, Gladys. Thanks for tuning into this walk. Have a lovely weekend. ~ OAAW
Hey OAAW~ This was fab! I love the way you did this: in scenes rather than one long video - rather cinematic. I would have thought I would not like a walk in the dark, but your night walks feel more artistic than narrative… if that makes sense.
I trust you only do walks and drives you want to do and feel comfortable doing…. (That’s coming from one who lives in the US northeast who would not go out for a walk in the dark though I live in an incredibly safe area.)
Good evening /afternoon Cheryl. It is good to hear your feedback on this one because it is so very different to daylight walks in various ways. The obvious one being the lack of light to work with amongst other things. I think you are right as this one has got a bit of a cinematic edge or feel to it (especially the short scene on the bridge when the light goes out (think I will be adding that to the end of year recap) This may sound strange but I think I probably feel more relaxed at night than in the daytime when out and about. However, even so I do try to keep an ear out for what is going on around me as one can never be too careful. All the best to you and many thanks. ~ OAAW

Hi, Aisha. Thank you very much for your lovely comment. Hope you are well too. Have a great weekend. ~ OAAW
It`s not Halloween again, is it? 😉It`s dark, mysterious, the tree branches look spooky in the light, the cry of the tawny owl ( yes heard it!) and a cemetery at night! ( that takes courage) There are hardly any streetlights anywhere, so no light pollution.
I wonder if someone called the police! At least you weren`t arrested 😋
I do enjoy seeing the famous, usually touristy villages in a completely different way, like Castle Combe last month and now Bibury. It`s out of the box filming, I can appreciate that.
Hi, Eva. It could be mistaken for that time of year going by this video. Yes, I believe someone did call the police, in which case they absolutely did the right thing.
It is good to see these locations in a totally different light, but obviously these night walks won’t be to everyones tastes. For me personally, I very much enjoy the serenity & tranquility of walking late at night. And still many more to come as well as more sunrise walks...
Have a great weekend Eva. ~ OAAW
@@OutandaboutWalking They did do the right thing. Can`t be too careful these days.
