  • So, today we are out and about walking after midnight in Cotswold churchyard. If you have been walking with this channel for a while now then you will know that I try to keep the walking content varied by adding an occasional walk you might not see too often here on CZcams. I realise that this walk will be a minority walk and will probably have a limited audience. Having said that, If this kind of walk appeals to you and you would like to see maybe more longer walks in and around church grounds after midnight, then please let me know in the comments section. Personally, I find church yards to be extremely peaceful, soothing and relaxing places but for some people they can be a painful reminder of losing a loved one in which case I would highly advise not watching this video (this is why I now add timestamps of entering & exiting churchyards in the daytime walks). I am very much also captivated and in awe of the sheer brilliance of the architectural magnitude of these historical sites.
All Saints Church is located in the village & parish of North Cerney in the County of Gloucestershire, England. It is 4 miles north of Cirencester. The church dates back to the 12th century, with renovations and work carried out in the 15th and 20th centuries. The denomination is Church of England.
    Thanks for walking with me.

Bon'zer! This really emphasizes the ages. 1100s AD you say; 1,200 years of weather and world endurance, religious stance and its powerful determination. Absolutely spellbinding, the love and preservation. And imagine, more than 1,200 years the fresh waters of River Churn has flowed. It puts you and me as specks of dust, for all we've seen here will continue on for another 'more than 1,200 years'. Our days are precious. We should respect them, not waste them on blowing lazily with the winds nor jealously destroy what endures forever. The message of lichened carefully carved stones must teach the oncoming descendents. Good job Sir🕶️ the Good Messenger.

You are getting to know the Cotswolds really well now…even knowing the names of it’s rivers!
Enjoy the rest of your day.

Muchas gracias!❤❤❤

This was unique and enjoyable- though on a very different plane from my favorites of morning walks, countryside, rain, etc. The world has such a totally different look at night- is sometimes almost unrecognizable from daytime. As colors do not show up well (what colors there are), it is almost like a black/white world, with everything in stark contrast. This had a very mysterious aura about it. Where we live most cemeteries have set visiting hours of sunrise to sunset, and many also have locked gates- so attempting a stroll in one after dark would either be impossible or would bring a stern reprimand from police if one was spotted.
I will just continue to visit cemeteries by day! The one where my parents are buried is very peaceful and park-like, and the very old gravestones in the one back section are fascinating to stroll amongst, to read the dates and epitaphs.
Thank you for sharing this very unique and unusual experience with us.
    P. S. I noticed brief glimpses what looked like fog early on (just around the minute mark), and wondered if it was a cool night and that was your breath appearing in the air? Whatever it was, it added to the spooky atmosphere.

Hi Janet. Thank you ever so much for your comment and feedback. It is good to know that despite the uniqueness of this walk you enjoyed it all the same. You have actually given me an idea for a future video, I can’t believe it has not already occurred to me :).
Our mainstream cemeteries have opening hours too and venturing in there after hours would result in being arrested.
Yes, definitely a lot of history within these places which we are often connected to on a personal level. Sometimes when the busy world gets too much these are a good place to just sit and gathers one’s thoughts even if the church or cemetery is located within a busy city.
      Best wishes to you both.

Well, I am very glad if my comment today gave you a previously unthought of idea for a future video! As I enjoy your walks on a regular basis, it was good to be able to do something for you (other than “like” and comment, which I already do). Yes, cemeteries can be very peaceful places- though obviously at certain seasons of life and after a loss they can elicit tears, as well. (It is kind of you to put in the time markers regarding church graveyards for the viewer who is in this sad situation). Around Memorial Day (equivalent of your U.K. “Remembrance day”) I go to the cemetery where not only are my parents buried, but also where many other of my late loved ones have graves. I am always glad to be able to honor their memory and show their importance to me with lovely flowers- and of course I put a flag or two at the grave of my patriotic veteran dad! After that, I think about what each person meant to me, and I thank God that I had them in my life. It’s a quiet, reflective experience, but not unhappy- and for that I am grateful.
Have a great rest of the week and weekend! :)
